Zlatan Ibrahimovic has posted a cheeky message to Manchester United fans after winning the club's Player of the Month award.

It is the second time the Swede has claimed the monthly gong, with Ibrahimovic playing a starring role in February to help United stay in contention for a top-four finish and win the EFL Cup.

The Red Devils are also into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they'll face Chelsea, while they have a Europa League last-16 tie to look forward to against FC Rostov.

The 35-year-old has an impressive 26 goals in all competitions for United following his summer move from PSG on a free transfer. And he managed seven in seven games during the month of February, winning the club's Player of the Month ahead of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

After receiving the award, Ibrahimovic posted a special video message to all those who voted for him, urging them to do the same again in the future.“I want to say thank you to all the fans who have been voting for me to win Player of the Month,” he told the club's official website.

“Hopefully I can continue and keep making you happy, and keep doing good. Thank you very much and keep voting for me... because that is the right thing to do!”

Mesut Ozil out of Liverpool match with flu

    ozil_12goavp3d89ed16n27qe6k9vlz.jpg

Mesut Ozil has not travelled with the Arsenal squad to Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Anfield as the German international is suffering from flu, Goal understands.

Ozil was sent home from training by the club doctor on Wednesday due to illness but Arsene Wenger suggested in his pre-match press conference that the 28-year-old “should be ok” for the huge league match.

However, the Gunners ‘No.10’ has been advised to recover from his flu at home and should be ready for next week’s Champions League last-16 second leg game against Bayern Munich, where Arsenal are currently 5-1 down from the first leg.

Former Real Madrid man Ozil, who has scored nine goals and assisted eight in 29 appearances this season, has covered more ground (10.49km per 90 minutes on average) than the likes of Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez in 2017 despite playing fewer minutes than the duo.

Victory at Anfield would close the gap on league leaders Chelsea to ten points and take Arsenal to second place until the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City play their respective games on Sunday.

    :yes:Shaw can be United's best left-back - Mourinho

    lukeshaw-cropped_6mdyoyodqrqvz5utp2hp44r6.jpg

Luke Shaw's future at Manchester United has been given a boost after manager Jose Mourinho said the out-of-favour left-back has the potential to become the club's best.

Regarded as one of Europe's most promising full-backs upon his big-money arrival from Southampton in 2014, Shaw's career has stalled at Old Trafford, having struggled to convince Mourinho this season.

The 21-year-old England international has been limited to seven Premier League appearances, though he has not played in the league since October, while he was not included in the squad for the EFL Cup final.

Shaw, however, is set to feature against Bournemouth on Saturday and Mourinho believes the Englishman will eventually emerge as his first-choice left-back.

"In practical terms we have lots of left-backs. It doesn't look like it but the reality is that [Daley] Blind, Shaw, [Marcos] Rojo, Darmian are all playing left back and can play there. They are different players," Mourinho said.

"I think the one that should be in the couple of years the best of all -- because potentially he should have all the conditions to be the best of all -- is Luke Shaw.

"By age, by physicality, by intensity, by being aggressive going forward, he should be the best. But to be the best you need to work hard. It's what he's trying to do."
Mourinho continued: "I think I have the best right-back in the world and I rotate a lot in the right-back position,

"I think [Antonio] Valencia is absolutely phenomenal and we played this season Valencia, [Matteo] Darmian, Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe. I had six different right-backs on the pitch this season, so sometimes you do it by circumstances.

United are sixth in the table, two appoints adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal and five adrift of Tottenham, who are second.

:(Manchester United 1-1 Bournemouth: Ibrahimovic the villain as Mourinho's men held by 10-man Cherries

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-premier-league-manchester-united-v-bournemouth_2ppn1tnt104l103wxy4n3svzg.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty and could face a retrospective ban from the Football Association after Manchester United were held to 1-1 Premier League draw by 10-man Bournemouth.

The match-winner in last weekend's EFL Cup final, Ibrahimovic has performed majestically in his debut season in English football but he stole the show for all the wrong reasons against Bournemouth, whose manager Eddie Howe grappled with a bout of illness on the touchline throughout an ill-tempered contest.

Marcos Rojo's maiden Premier League goal gave United a deserved 23rd-minute lead before ex-Red Devils youngster Josh King levelled from the penalty spot.
Ibrahimovic then found himself embroiled in a flashpoint on the stroke of half-time, when Tyrone Mings trod on his head and he responded by elbowing the Bournemouth full-back.

Referee Kevin Friend lost control of the action at that stage as the United favourite escaped further punishment and Andrew Surman received a second booking – the red card came after an embarrassing delay as Friend briefly forgot the yellow he showed the midfielder for a 33rd-minute foul on Luke Shaw.

Ibrahimovic could not make the most of his reprieve as the excellent Artur Boruc saved his 72nd-minute penalty and Jose Mourinho's sixth-placed side miss out on the chance to go fourth.

Wayne Rooney was back in the United starting line-up and the home captain, along with Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were guilty of early wastefulness as Bournemouth were cut open at will.

Cherries striker Benik Afobe lost his footing when one-on-one with David de Gea but the Spain international's opposite number Artur Boruc remained the busier of the two as he got down to thwart Anthony Martial.

Michael Carrick threaded a magnificent 20th-minute pass through to Martial as Boruc stood firm again and it took a less familiar source to give United the lead.
Carrick played conductor once more, exchanging passes with Pogba and laying the ball out to Antonio Valencia, whose drilled attempt into the box was turned home by Rojo.

The flow of chances quelled after the opener and Bournemouth levelled six minutes before the break – King crashing in a penalty in front of the Stretford End after Phil Jones clumsily felled Marc Pugh.Ibrahimovic was booked for dissent following that decision and the fired-up Swede was at the centre of a fractious and confused end to the half.

When looking to regain ground following a tackle on Rooney, Mings trod on Ibrahimovic's head. Retribution was swift as United's top scorer elbowed the full-back when the ball entered the Bournemouth box moments later.

In the ensuing melee, Surman shoved Ibrahimovic and was shown a yellow card. It was only as Friend neglected to do likewise to the ex-PSG star that he remembered Surman was previously booked and the Bournemouth man belatedly saw red.

Pogba tested Boruc from long range in the 56th minute as an air of normality returned to proceedings. The France midfielder then won a free-kick in a dangerous position but Ibrahimovic shot limply into the wall, compounding a frustrating outing.

With 20 minutes left to play, Mourinho unfurled a three-card trick in an attempt to find a way through – Shaw, Carrick and Rooney making way for Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini and Marcus Rashford.

Nevertheless, Ibrahimovic remained flailing at centre stage. After Pogba drew a 71st-minute handball from Adam Smith, the 35-year-old's penalty was not struck cleanly and too close to Boruc, who saved to his right.

Harry Arter should have received a second caution for a lunging tackle on Pogba, whose combined air shot and standing leg effort at close quarters in stoppage time added a fitting final note of farce.

Mourinho: Mings 'knows what he did' to Ibrahimovic

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-premier-league-manchester-united-v-bournemouth_2wii92kqvxp01esqqovf2reyq.jpg

Jose Mourinho says Tyrone Mings "knows what he did" after the Bournemouth defender appeared to intentionally stamp on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's head during the 1-1 draw between the two sides at Old Trafford.

The two players engaged in a running battle throughout the game with Mings clashing with the Swede while he was on the ground, and the striker retaliating moments later with an apparent elbow.

Neither player was punished for their actions during the game by referee Kevin Friend and Mourinho was relucant to discuss the incidents at length after the final whistle.

"I'm a football man, I'm in football many years, I don't like to speak after matches about what happened during matches. What happened, happened and the referee was there," he told Sky Sports when asked about the incident after the game.

"If you ask me if I'm happy that Tyrone Mings gets a three or four or five match ban, I really don't care about it. He knows what he did, he knows better than anyone what he did, he knows better than the referee his intention in the moment, in the emotion of the moment. I really don't care."

United went ahead through Marco Rojo's first Premier League goal for the club but Bournemouth levelled after Joshua King equalised from the penalty spot before being reduced to 10 men after Andrew Surman was sent off.

The Red Devils then had the chance to secure victory after they were awarded a penalty, only for Artur Boruc to save Ibrahimovic's effort and Mourinho was disappointed his side failed to see off the struggling Cherries.

"What’s important to me is the result of the game, the fact that once more we deserved to win by far, but we didn’t," he added."We lost two points, we lost a good opportunity to close the gap at the top of the league."

The draw means United miss the chance to move in to the top four and remain in sixth place in the table, level on points with Liverpool who welcome Arsenal to Anfield in the evening kick-off.

I knew Ibrahimovic would come after me - Mings

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-premier-league-manchester-united-v-bournemouth_2ppn1tnt104l103wxy4n3svzg.jpg

Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings says he knew Zlatan Ibrahimovic would retaliate after he stood on his head - an incident he insists was an accident.

The defender had several encounters with the Manchester United striker during the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday. Mings was thrown to the ground by him off the ball before he stood on Ibrahimovic's head as he lay on the deck after a challenge. The Swedish star then elbowed him in the head as he jumped up to meet a cross from a corner.

Despite the altercations, both were allowed to stay on the pitch, though Andrew Surman was shown a second yellow card for pushing Ibrahimovic.Mings maintains he had no intention of catching Ibrahimovic, but held no grudges against the "physical" attacker.

"No, [I didn't mean to stand on his head] not at all," he told Sky Sports. "I would never do that - that's not in my game. Hard and fair is how I like to tackle. Off the ball, stuff like that is not in my game.

"He just said: 'Well played, you're a good player' - no he didn't! Look he is who he is - he's a good player, he's a physical player and that's what we had all day. It was a battle. There was maybe an elbow, I didn't see it, I felt it.

"I had a feeling [he would come after me] for the rest of the game. He's a physical guy and it was a good test."

Rooney demands action against Mings after Ibrahimovic 'stamp'

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-premier-league-manchester-united-v-bournemouth_2ppn1tnt104l103wxy4n3svzg.jpg

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has called for retrospective action to be taken against Tyrone Mings after the Bournemouth defender trod on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's head during the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

United took a 23rd-minute lead through Marcos Rojo's maiden Premier League goal but Josh King equalised from the penalty spot against his former club.

The main flashpoint arrived shortly before half-time, when Mings flew into a tackle on Rooney and stood on Ibrahimovic's head as United's top scorer lay prone.
While television pictures have sugggested that Rooney could not have seen the incident as it happened, speaking after the game the captain insisted the defender's actions were "wrong" and believes he will be punished.

"I don't think the referee saw Tyrone Mings try and stamp on Zlatan's head. I was right there. It's wrong in football," Rooney told Sky Sports, after Ibrahimovic missed a second-half penalty and Jose Mourinho's side missed out on the chance to break into the top four.

"Everyone likes to go into tackles but to try and stamp on a player's head is wrong and I'm sure there'll be action after the game."

When the ball came into the Bournemouth area moments later, Ibrahimovic struck Mings with an elbow in an act of apparent retribution. Rooney did not get a clear view of that incident, which ended in a melee and a second booking for Cherries midfielder Andrew Surman.

"I was out on the corner by that time so I didn't see that one," Rooney added. "I'm sure if anything's happened people will have their opinion on that."The ones I've seen - I've been on the end of studs to the head and it's not nice. I'm sure the right punishment will be given."

Koln 0-3 Bayern Munich: Ancelotti's men move clear with simple win

    1-fc-koln-fc-bayern-martinez-alaba_1xgdddmoscr9e1puz3n1xeqosm.jpg

Bayern Munich's superstar forward line allowed two less glamorous team-mates a rare share of the spotlight on Saturday, as Spanish defenders Javi Martinez and Juan Bernat scored in a 3-0 win to end Koln's long unbeaten run at home and move the champions seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

The hosts had not tasted defeat at RheinEnergie Stadion in the league since April 2016, but the omens were not good for them when Martinez put Carlo Ancelotti's visiting heavyweights ahead midway through the first half, Bayern having previously gone on to win every time the former Athletic Bilbao star had struck for them in the Bundesliga.

And that streak remained intact, thanks in no small part to his fellow Spain international Bernat, who afforded the visitors a comfortable two-goal cushion when he slotted home at the back post three minutes into the second half, before substitute Franck Ribery capped off the win by scoring a third in the 90th minute.

While lacking the wow factor of their extraordinary 8-0 triumph at home to Hamburg last weekend, the result was never in doubt, as Bayern took advantage of the points dropped by second-placed RB Leipzig in a 2-2 draw away to Augsburg on Friday to strengthen their grip at the top of the table.

Koln more than held their own during a high-tempo start to the game, Manuel Neuer producing a brilliant reflex save in the 18th minute to deny Yuya Osako, whose header from Christian Clemens' cross appeared destined for the top corner.

Having slowly come to dominate the contest, Bayern took a deserved lead in the 25th minute, when a short corner allowed Douglas Costa to burst into the area unchallenged and cross to the back post. Arturo Vidal hooked the ball back into the centre and Martinez steered a close-range finish into the top of the far side-netting for his first Bayern goal since November 2015.

Costa, Vidal and David Alaba all called Koln goalkeeper Thomas Kessler into action from long-range strikes throughout the half, without being able to extend the visitors' advantage.

There was an element of good fortune involved when they did double their lead, Bernat arriving in space on the left side of the area, gathering Thomas Muller's pass and finding the back of the net after a slight deflection off covering defender Pawel Olkowski in the 48th minute.

In a slight fitness worry for Bayern, Costa limped off soon after the second goal, to be replaced by Ribery, who added gloss to the scoreline by running onto Bernat's cutback and smashing home an emphatic third in the 90th minute.

Next up for Ancelotti's men is the formality of accounting for Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie on Tuesday, before the powerhouse Bavarians welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to Allianz Arena next weekend, seeking to continue their quest to claim an unprecedented fifth successive league title.

Borussia Dortmund 6-2 Bayer Leverkusen: Aubameyang brace sparks hosts to easy win

    pierre-emerick-aubameyang-dortmund_168x08rv5gxrn1qwi95qynif1w.jpg

Borussia Dortmund obliterated Bayer Leverkusen with a late flurry to win 6-2 in a thrilling encounter at Signal Iduna Park, piling the pressure on Roger Schmidt and capitalising on RB Leipzig's slip-up.

Dortmund looked to be in for a nervous finish after Wendell scored a stunning free-kick to leave Leverkusen just a goal behind their hosts with 16 minutes to go, but Christian Pulisic, Andre Schurrle and Raphael Guerreiro then went on to score for the hosts to clinch an emphatic win and make the most of Leipzig's 2-2 draw at Augsburg on Friday.

The hosts looked like scoring every time they attacked and were fully deserving of their early lead through Ousmane Dembele, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was decisive in doubling their tally just before the half-hour mark.

Kevin Volland pulled one back at the start of the second half, though their momentum swiftly diminished and Dortmund scored again 21 minutes from the end, Aubameyang bundling over the line for his 21st league goal of the season.

Wendell curled in a fine set-piece shortly after, but their admirable fightback was ended late on by Pulisic, Schurrle and Guerreiro, as Dortmund secured a third successive league win in stunning fashion and left Leverkusen trailing them by 13 points with Champions League qualification looking unikely.

There was no sign of Leverkusen's recent struggles easing during the early exchanges as they found themselves trailing after six minutes, Dembele finding the bottom-left corner from 20 yards after Charles Aranguiz inadvertently chested the ball to him.Leverkusen grew into the match and saw plenty of the ball.

But they looked far less threatening in attack than their hosts, who had Dembele in fine form, and he nearly scored his second 25 minutes in, terrorising Omer Toprak before testing Bernd Leno from a difficult position.

Dortmund did score again from the resulting corner, though, as Aubameyang smashed home from close range after Marc Bartra's header deflected off Tin Jedvaj.

Marco Reus' departure with an apparent hamstring injury just before the break brought the first half to a disappointing close for Dortmund, and their start to the second half was even worse.

Volland did brilliantly when played up the left flank, as he shrugged off the usually physically dominant Sokratis Papastathopoulos and sent an emphatic left-footed finish beyond Roman Burki to give Leverkusen a lifeline.

Aubameyang doubled his tally for the day when heading in from close range in the 69th minute, but Wendell struck a delightful free-kick a few moments later to potentially usher in a tense ending.

But Dortmund responded in truly uncompromising fashion.Pulisic capped off a flowing move to re-open the two-goal lead, before Schurrle won a penalty after being tripped by Wendell and duly slotted in the spot-kick himself.

Guerreiro then wrapped things up in stoppage time, drilling into the bottom-right corner after Dortmund worked the ball across the penalty area, completing an embarrassing day for the away side.

Leicester City 3-1 Hull City: Mahrez on target in Foxes comeback

    riyad-mahrez-leicester-city-hull-city_1sl4thlbi14if1ersz8oqvax32.jpg

Leicester City continued their post-Claudio Ranieri revival to move five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone by coming from behind to beat fellow strugglers Hull City 3-1.

The Premier League champions beat Liverpool by the same scoreline on Monday in their first game since the controversial sacking of Ranieri.Yet they seemed set to come back down to earth after 14 minutes on Saturday, Sam Clucas' close-range effort putting Hull ahead.

However, the two stars of Leicester's incredible title-winning campaign under Ranieri had a hand in what could prove to be a crucial comeback.

First, Jamie Vardy set up Christian Fuchs to level the scores midway through the first half.

Riyad Mahrez then completed the turnaround just before the hour mark when he hit home from the edge of the box, with a late Tom Huddlestone own-goal adding gloss to the scoreline as Leicester made it two wins from two under caretaker Craig Shakespeare and leaving Hull second bottom - four points adrift of safety.Wes Morgan wasted a superb opportunity to open the scoring inside five minutes, heading wide unmarked from a Mahrez free-kick.

Leicester continued to enjoy the better of the opening stages but, amid a sustained period of pressure, the hosts were caught on the counter.

Wilfred Ndidi carelessly gave the ball away and Hull ruthlessly took advantage, Oumar Niasse slipping in Kamil Grosicki, whose cross from the left was turned in by Clucas after Kasper Schmeichel could only push it into the midfielder's path.
But Leicester responded 13 minutes later as Fuchs and Vardy linked up superbly down the left before the England international found the Austrian arriving late into the box to tuck the ball home.

Hull were denied by the woodwork shortly after the restart, Harry Maguire striking the post with an improvised effort off the bottom of his boot from Grosicki's corner. However, that was a fleeting moment of promise for Hull and Leicester continued to push for a turnaround, which they did through a moment of Mahrez magic.

The Algeria winger danced on the edge of the area as he searched for space before squeaking a fierce low effort inside the right-hand post, with Eldin Jakupovic not able to keep the shot out despite getting a hand to it.
Schmeichel had to be alert shortly after to keep out Grosicki's free-kick from a difficult angle.

Hull rarely threatened after that missed opportunity, though, and Huddlestone inadvertently headed a corner into his own net late on to make it 3-1, with Leicester's Thai owners pictured giving the thumbs up at the end of Shakespeare's latest audition for the job.

Watford 3-4 Southampton: Redmond scores twice as visitors come from behind to win

    nathan-redmond-dusan-tadic-southampton_fjfv84f5ftab1resozqkcwcaq.jpg

Southampton came from behind to beat Watford 4-3 and leapfrog their opponents in the Premier League table.

The Saints put the memory of their EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester United behind them with a fluent performance, and became only the second side to win at Vicarage Road in 2017.

Troy Deeney scored his fifth goal in six Premier League games to put Watford ahead, but the afternoon got worse thereafter for Walter Mazzarri's men.

Southampton's success was forged in their midfield, and Watford struggled to contain the industry and craft of James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond. Tadic scored his third goal of the season to level matters, before turning provider for Redmond to make it 2-1.

Stefano Okaka levelled for Watford after 79 minutes, but Mazzarri's pre-match plea to his side to "stop sitting back" fell on deaf ears as an error by Heurelho Gomes allowed Manolo Gabbiadini to make it 3-2 before Redmond wrapped up the win with a solo run and finish, rendering Abdoulaye Doucoure's late consolation goal meaningless.

Deeney gave Watford an early lead with a goal he created and scored himself, playing a neat one-two with Okaka before side-footing a volley past the out-stretched Fraser Forster and into the corner of the net.

The Saints showed the quality that pushed United all the way in the EFL Cup final and Redmond danced through the Watford midfield before flashing a shot just wide and the scores were level after 27 minutes.

Tadic and Redmond passed their way into the box and, when Watford failed to clear their lines, the Serbian midfielder rifled a low shot beyond Gomes to make it 1-1.

The Watford goalkeeper then pulled off two excellent saves, but he could do nothing to stop Redmond giving Southampton the lead just before half-time after Tadic teed him up in the box for a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Gabbiadini went into the game hoping to become the first Southampton player to score in his first three Premier League appearances for the club, and he should have clinched the record when he ran across the face of goal early in the second half but failed to get his shot away before being dispossessed.

Gomes made a wonderful fingertip save to turn Tadic's half-volley over the crossbar after an hour, and the Brazilian goalkeeper kept Watford in the game again moments later with a reaction save from Maya Yoshida's close-range volley.
Tom Cleverley put Okaka through for a rare Watford chance with 15 minutes remaining and Forster saved the Italian striker's shot with his feet, but Southampton's resistance was eventually breached.

The introduction of Isaac Success seemed to galvanise Watford, and the substitute raced down the left wing before crossing to the feet of Okaka, who hit a first-time shot high into the net.

But Watford capitulated in the dying minutes of the game, with Gomes spilling Tadic's speculative shot at the feet of Gabbiadini to allow the Italian to score his sixth goal in his last four Southampton appearances in all competitions.

And three minutes later Sebastian Prodl backed off as Redmond dribbled into the box and chipped Gomes to wrap up a deserved victory even though Watford had the last word with Doucoure's close-range goal in injury time.
