Wenger: I don't know if FA Cup final is my last Arsenal game

    arsene-wenger-cropped_1xbf3dogyi5cp156ctzvrr5nqx.jpg

Arsene Wenger does not know whether the FA Cup final against Chelsea will be his last match as Arsenal manager. The Gunners boss has continuously refused to reveal whether he will sign a new contract to extend his stay at Emirates Stadium beyond this season.

Wenger again did not give an indication over his future plans prior to the final at Wembley on Saturday, even though he insists the result will have no bearing on his decision.

Asked if his Arsenal reign would extend from 21 years to 22 or 23, Wenger said: "I cannot answer that question at the moment."It will not be my last match anyway because no matter what happens I will stay in football."

Asked specifically if this would be his last match in charge of Arsenal, he replied: "I don't know."No [the result will not have an impact]. Why [should it]? I don't care about me, I care about us winning the game on Saturday.

"When you go in the game, a cup final, you can accept the challenge and just want to win it. The last worry I have is myself."The team has given so much and they really want to win something this season."

Wenger insisted he has not thought about going out on a high if Arsenal are able to beat rivals Chelsea and secure FA Cup glory.

"No, what I want is to win the next game," he said. "I love to win and I want to do well for my club. I want to win the cup for my club and that is all I care about. "It is not about me, it is about us winning the trophy and giving absolutely everything to achieve it."

Wenger confident Sanchez will be fit for FA Cup final as Gabriel is ruled out

    alexis-sanchez-arsenal-sunderland-premier-league-16052017_bwbjs8uzance1s94u3r1yxfws.jpg

Arsene Wenger is confident Alexis Sanchez will be passed fit to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final, although Gabriel is definitely out and Shkodran Mustafi remains a doubt.

Arsenal face Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday looking to salvage silverware from a campaign that has seen them miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 20 seasons.

And they are hopeful forward Sanchez will come through fitness tests on a hamstring problem in order to play against Antonio Conte's men.

However, Gabriel is definitely out after being taken off on a stretcher against Everton on Sunday with a knee injury, while Mustafi is "still sick" and doubtful with a suspected concussion.

That leaves Arsenal with big problems in defence given Laurent Koscielny is suspended after being sent off in the Everton match.Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker – who has not started a match for over a year – are the club's only other senior centre-backs.

"Alexis is alright," Wenger said at his pre-match media conference."We will see as he needs to go through some tests. But knowing the player, knowing his character and commitment to the club - which I don't question at all - he will do absolutely everything to be fit for Saturday.

"Gabriel is out for six to eight weeks. We had a scare about his cruciate but it is the medial ligament and the positive is he avoids surgery."Shkodran Mustafi we have some worries. He is still sick at the moment and has not trained yet. I don't know how much chance he has, I have to listen to the medical people."

Wenger continued: "It just shows you how unpredictable football can be because we played at home when your mind is on attacking and we lost two centre-backs.
"It is absolutely unbelievable and unpredictable. We are hit hard in a position where we have to be strong on Saturday.

"We have to find solutions and hopefully I can find some good ones. I have to decide that until Saturday. We will test things in training until then."Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in contention because he is back in training."

Chelsea cancel victory parade after Manchester terror attack

    stamfordbridgecropped_lxjhphrori2z1mpa4tu1xl1xa.jpg

Chelsea have cancelled their Premier League victory parade planned for Sunday in the wake of the terror attack in Manchester that claimed 22 lives.A suicide bomber targeted a pop concert held at Manchester Arena on Monday, with a further 64 people injured.

The Stamford Bridge club, who face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on Saturday, issued a statement on Wednesday confirming their plans for a parade to mark their top-flight title triumph had been shelved.

"Everyone associated with Chelsea Football Club offers our heartfelt condolences to those affected by Monday's terror attack in Manchester. Our thoughts go out to all the victims, and their families and friends," the release read."In light of these tragic events, we feel it is inappropriate to go ahead with the victory parade in London on Sunday.

"Given the heightened security threat announced by the Government, and recognising that this is a developing situation, we have given this careful consideration. We strongly believe, in the interests of everyone, this is the correct course of action. We are sure our fans will understand this decision.

"Having consulted with the Metropolitan Police, Hammersmith and Fulham Council and other authorities, we know the emergency services would have been as professional as ever, but we would not want in any way to divert important resources by holding an additional, non-ticketed event on the streets of London.

"Furthermore, as a mark of respect, our players will wear black armbands at the FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday. Chelsea Football Club will also make a donation to a fund supporting the victims of this horrific attack."

Arsenal confirmed they had cancelled a screening of the Wembley clash that was due to be shown at Emirates Stadium, adding that no victory parade would take place should they win the match.

PSG set to step up Alexis chase as they close in on new sporting director

    hd-alexis-sanchez-arsenal_puojnvyb1v0q1w24a3ix3tg8k.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain are poised to appoint Antero Henrique as their new sporting director, Goal understands, and he is ready to make Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez the club’s No.1 priority in the transfer window.

The former Porto director was initially the favourite to take over the role from Patrick Kluivert, who was only appointed last summer, but Andrea Berta of Atletico Madrid had come to the fore in recent days.

PSG even held a meeting with the Italian, jetting him out to Qatar in order to be able to do so, but the move was ultimately blocked by the Primera Division outfit.
As a consequence, PSG have moved back to their initial track, with Henrique now set to become their sporting director in the days to come.

He will lead their transfer strategy and his first task will be persuading Alexis to move to the French capital — a task Kluivert has undertaken for several weeks now.

Henrique, however, faces a significant challenge as many of Europe’s biggest sides are vying for the Chile international, and even though reports in Germany suggest Bayern Munich may have cooled their interest due to the attacker’s wage demands, Manchester City are among those poised to swoop.

PSG, who play the Coupe de France final against Angers on Saturday, are eager to bounce back after a disappointing campaign in which they fell at the last-16 stage of the Champions League and saw their Ligue 1 crown passed to an exciting Monaco team.

Monaco snap up Man Utd target Tielemans

    youri-tielemans-anderlecht_1v3af9amwc3eb1vkyxxl5xcjed.jpg

Monaco have completed the signing of Youri Tielemans from Anderlecht for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €23million.

The 20-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the biggest talents around in his age category and had also been linked with clubs such as Manchester United, Inter and Atletico Madrid in recent months, but Monaco have won the race for his signature.

Anderlecht general director Herman Van Holsbeeck already announced earlier this week that the Belgium international was on his way to the Ligue 1 champions and he has now signed a contract with Monaco until June 2022.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this team next year," Tielemans commented on his transfer."Monaco are a club with an ambitious project and have a reputation for developing youngsters.

"I have spoken a lot with Yannick Carrasco about Monaco while we were with the national team."I am very happy to be here. I am going to do everything within my powers to pay back Monaco for the faith shown in me."Tielemans came through the ranks of the Anderlecht youth academy and made his first-team debut at the tender age of 16.

He had since developed into a key figure at the Brussels giants, making over 150 appearances in all competitions for the club. The Belgium international scored 13 goals in 37 league appearances this term to help Anderlecht to the Belgian title.

:love:Ajax 0 Manchester United 2: Pogba and Mkhitaryan seal emotional Europa League triumph

    paul-pogba-cropped_1duzkmma9bqz01xhjk6do9m1yc.jpg

Manchester United won the Europa League for the first time in their history thanks to a 2-0 victory over Ajax in Wednesday's final in Stockholm.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan secured the trophy and a route back into the Champions League group stage for next season, while bringing some joy to fans in what has been a deeply difficult week for the English city.

The match was overshadowed by Monday's terror attack at the Manchester Arena, which killed 22 people, and a minute's silence was observed before kick-off in front of a boisterous but respectful crowd at Friends Arena.

Manager Jose Mourinho – who last won this trophy with Porto in 2003 – spoke before the game of how United players were struggling to put the tragedy at home out of their minds, but they were the better side in the opening exchanges and were good value for the lead given to them through Pogba's deflected shot.

Ajax, in their first European final since losing to Juventus in the Champions League in 1996, lacked the attacking precision that saw them score five goals across two legs against both Schalke and Lyon and they were 2-0 down shortly after the interval as Mkhitaryan netted his sixth goal in the competition this season.

United were largely on the defensive in the final half-hour but their lead was rarely under threat, as they became the fifth team to win the Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup and returned to Europe's top table in style.

Wednesday's encounter was preceded by a minute's silence that turned into rousing applause in recognition of the victims of Monday's terror attack in Manchester, which claimed the lives of 22 people.

It was United who settled quickest, Marcus Rashford causing some early problems for the young Ajax back line and Marouane Fellaini almost reaching a fizzing cross from Juan Mata.

Chelsea loanee Bertrand Traore stung the palms of Sergio Romero, starting as expected in place of David de Gea, but Ajax's early anxiety came to a head as they gifted United the opener after 18 minutes.

United won the ball back from a routine Ajax throw-in and it allowed Fellaini to tee up Pogba on the edge of the area, who had time to take a touch before firing a left-footed shot that took a big deflection off Davinson Sanchez and looped beyond Andre Onana.

Antonio Valencia saw a powerful strike beaten away by Onana but United gradually began to sit deep as Ajax grew into the contest, although they struggled to create any meaningful openings before the break.

And with two minutes played of the second half, they were hit by a United sucker punch. Daley Blind's inswinging corner was headed down by Chris Smalling, and Mkhitaryan – perhaps fortunate to have been left on after a dreadful first-half display – hooked the ball into the roof of the net.

Peter Bosz replaced the anoymous Kasper Dolberg as he sought to give Ajax some much-needed attacking vigour but United wasted a great opening to settle the contest, Fellaini heading straight at Onana after being picked out by Pogba.

Ajax continued to enjoy close to 69 per cent of possession but they offered almost no threat to Romero's goal, as a season in which they surrendered their Eredivisie title to Feyenoord ended in more disappointment.

For EFL Cup winners United – who gave a late run-out to captain Wayne Rooney in what could be his final match for the club – it was a largely routine but profoundly welcome success that cast a more favourable light on Mourinho's first term in charge and provided a fitting tribute to those grieving at home.

Manchester United are the Europa League champions.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave Jose Mourinho's men a well-deserved 2-0 victory over a young Ajax side in the final on Wednesday to confirm United's qualification for the Champions League next season.

The result comes just days after a terror attack in Manchester that claimed the lives of 22 people and injured many more, and fans took to Twitter afterwards to label United's victory a defiant one for a city in need of a lift, and to hail the side's performance.

Manchester United become fifth team to win all three major European trophies

    manchester-united-europa-league-trophy_o55omu7u5mx81092l65pq0g63.jpg

Manchester United’s Europa League title wasn’t a first for the club. It also put the Red Devils in select company among Europe's elite.Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored as Manchester United defeated Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm to take home the 2016-17 UEFA Europa League crown, along with earning a spot in the 2017-18 Champions League.

The trophy is not only the Red Devils’ first in the Europa League, but also made them the fifth team to take home titles in all three of Europe’s top club competitions, the Champions League, Europa League and the now-defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.

Manchester United won the latter competition, which ceased to exist after 1999, in 1991. The Red Devils won their first European Cup, which later became the Champions League, in the 1967-68 season.

United join the club they defeated in this year’s final, Ajax, along with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Chelsea as the only five clubs to win all three competitions. Chelsea was the last team prior to United to complete the historical treble when they won the Europa League in 2012-13.

Manchester City sent a message of solidarity to Manchester United following their rivals' triumph in the Europa League final.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan secured a third trophy of the season for Jose Mourinho after their successes in the Community Shield and EFL Cup and sealed a return to the Champions League.

    p3h9NSs.jpg

The build-up to the match was overshadowed by the terror attack at Manchester Arena on Monday, which resulted in the deaths of 22 people, including children.

Manchester held a vigil in Albert Square on Tuesday in honour of the victims and in defiance of the perpetrators, while a minute's silence was held before the start of Wednesday's match at Friends Arena in Stockholm.

City and United both posted tributes in the aftermath of the bomb attack and Pep Guardiola's side put their fierce rivalry aside with another classy post shortly after full-time.

The hashtag #ACityUnited, which has been circulating on social media for much of the last 24 hours, was posted via City's official Twitter account moments after the final whistle, the text composed of City's sky blue and the red of their rivals.

Marouane Fellaini sets headers record in Europa League final

    marouane-fellaini-davy-klaassen-manchester-united-ajax-europa-league-final_omc1cgk8taxf19rdam2h1ldaa.jpg

Marouane Fellaini has long been known a force to be dealt with in the air and, on Wednesday night in the Europa League final, he showed just how dominant he can be.

Manchester United emerged from the final in Stockholm with a 2-0 victory over Ajax, with Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan getting the goals to see United win their first Europa League crown and clinch a spot in next year’s Champions League.

The big midfielder won 15 aerial balls in the contest – a record for not only for a Europa League final, but for the entire competition since it transitioned from the UEFA Cup in the 2009-10 season.

The 29-year-old Belgian international, who joined the club from Everton during the 2013-14 campaign, played in 11 Europa League games for United this season, starting seven and scoring a goal.
It was a night for records, as Wayne Rooney equalled Ryan Giggs’ Manchester United mark of appearing in four major European finals.

Ajax also set a record of their own as the Dutch side fielded a team that had an average age of 22 years and 282 days – the youngest group ever to start a major European final, with Matthijs de Ligt becoming the youngest player to ever feature in a European final at 17 years and 285 days.

:yes:Beckham: Manchester United's Europa League triumph more important than sport

    manchester-united-cropped_nd2eqgpykt9v19taaukoxu9br.jpg

Manchester United great David Beckham welcomed his old club's Europa League triumph as a way of bringing "a little happiness at a difficult time".

The build-up to Wednesday's match was overshadowed by the tragedy of Monday's terror attack on the Manchester Arena that left 22 victims dead and dozens more injured.A minute's silence preceded kick-off at Friends Arena, before United went on to defeat Ajax 2-0 thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Fierce rivals Manchester City tweeted #ACityUnited at the final whistle in a show of solidarity following a desperately tough few days for the city, and Beckham likewise believes that United's win went beyond footballing success.

Writing via his official Instagram page, the ex-England captain said: "Tonight was more important than sport...

"Yes, a big night for Manchester United but an even bigger night for the city and for our country..."At a time when we are grieving for the families that have lost loved ones we have a sport that has bought a little happiness at a difficult time... We pray for peace."

United's triumph – their first in this tournament – means they will qualify for next season's Champions League. It is the second time that manager Jose Mourinho has lifted the trophy, following his success with Porto in 2003.

:)Mourinho: Lots of poets in football, but poets don't win titles

    jose-mourinho-manchester-united-europa-league-final_1bwgj1gafwjjy1338dji7khoik.jpg

Jose Mourinho has delivered a thinly veiled dig at his critics following Manchester United's Europa League triumph, suggesting that football's 'poets' don't win titles.

Goals in either half from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were enough to see the Red Devils to a historic victory over a youthful Ajax side in Stockholm as Mourinho clinched the trophy for the first time in the Old Trafford club's history.

The Portuguese has endured plenty of criticism this season, with United finishing sixth in the Premier League and appearing unconvincing en route to the final. Indeed, Ajax captain Davy Klaassen continued that trend, by suggesting that Mourinho's side were 'lucky' to win.

However, after concluding his maiden campaign with three trophies and securing Champions League football for next season, the former Real Madrid boss was happy to take aim at his detractors.

"We always thought that we could win the Europa League and we are very happy," Mourinho told BT Sport. "We played intelligently, we did it in a comfortable way. We were much stronger than them.

"If you want to press the ball all the time, you don't play short. If you are dominant in the air you go long. There are lots of poets in football but poets, they don't win many titles.

"We knew where they were better than us, we knew where we were better than them, we tried to kill their good qualities and exploit their weaknesses. We did that very well from the first minute and we totally deserve the trophy."

Mourinho admitted that his first term at Man United was his "most difficult season as a manager" and says, with three trophies under his belt, he will now take a deserved rest."We preferred to reach the Champions League this way than finish fourth, third or second," he continued.

"We got the objective, we are back in the Champions League by winning a title, an important title. The club now has every title in world football. We fought hard for this since the beginning.

"We totally deserved the win. I am so happy to see the [injured] boys with the crutches with the trophy and now I am on holiday. I don't want to see any international friendlies, I am selfish. I can't do it."For me, enough is enough. It has been a very hard last few months, we were short of numbers.

"Three trophies in one season and the Champions League. I am very happy in my most difficult season as a manager. It is the end of a very difficult season but a very, very good season."

The Europa League joins the Community Shield and EFL Cup in Mourinho's trophy cabinet after his first season at Old Trafford and he will look to build on that success in the Champions League next season.
