Ramos unsure of Morata future amid Manchester United links

    alvaromorata-cropped_rsl39qd7l70i1j5u02pm3q1lb.jpg

Sergio Ramos is not sure if Alvaro Morata will be at Real Madrid next season as Manchester United reportedly close in on the Spaniard.Morata is believed to be on the verge of joining the Premier League giants after struggling for regular game time in Madrid.

The 24-year-old Spain international forward only started 14 league games as Madrid won La Liga, and the Champions League.

Asked about Morata's future following Spain's 2-1 World Cup qualifying win in Macedonia on Sunday, Madrid captain Ramos said: "It will be seen if Morata leaves."I have a special affection for him and I always wish him the best.
"It is not up to me if he stays."

Morata scored 20 goals in all competitions for Madrid, who won their first La Liga title since 2012 and became the first team to claim back-to-back Champions League crowns.

Chelsea and Arsenal interested in Dortmund defender Sokratis

    gfx-sokratis-dortmund_rbpmy2g8gktl19nscovugne25.jpg

Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in securing a summer transfer for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Goal understands.

The 29-year-old centre-back has suggested he is open to leaving the Bundesliga club in order to win silverware, with the Premier League pair both expressing an interest ahead of next season.

Sokratis, who made 26 league starts under the now-departed Thomas Tuchel at Dortmund last season, and 41 appearances in total, is thought to be open to a switch to England, though is undecided on where his future sits.

The Greece international was part of the Dortmund side which had to win on the last day of the Bundesliga season to guarantee a place in the Champions League group stage, ultimately finishing 18 points behind Bayern Munich as the Bavarians retained the German title.

Following Dortmund's final league fixture, and ahead of the club's DFB-Pokal final against Eintracht Frankfurt, Sokratis told Funke Mediengruppe he felt as though time is running out for him to add silverware to his personal collection, fuelling the speculation of a summer exit."If you're young, you have a lot of time to win things," he said. "But I'm not young any more, time is getting shorter and I really want to win a title."

Both Chelsea and Arsenal are in the market to bolster their defensive lines, with Antonio Conte focusing on landing Southampton's Virgil van Dijk up until this point.

Should the Blues miss out on the Netherlands international, however, Goal understands the Chelsea boss will move for Juventus's Leonardo Bonucci, who is open to a reunion with the Italian after turning down the advances of Manchester City last year.

Sokratis, who has a contract with Dortmund until 2019, is not believed to be a priority for the Stamford Bridge club, but the interest still stands.

Arsene Wenger, meanwhile is determined to add to his defensive options ahead of the 2017-18 campaign and has already confirmed the signing of Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.

'Lindelof will star at Man Utd' – Larsson backs fellow Swede to be a shrewd investment

    lindelof-cropped_kog3497yupvm1h1dgdhosprj6.jpg

Victor Lindelof's move to Manchester United from Benfica will be a success, according to his Sweden team-mate Sebastian Larsson.United confirmed they have agreed a fee – reportedly €35million – with the Portuguese champions on Saturday.

The centre-back will become the club's first close-season signing subject to completing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Larsson, who played alongside Lindelof in Sweden's 2-1 victory over France on Friday and has spent his entire senior career in England, insists the 22-year-old will shine in the Premier League once he has had time to settle.

"The major thing is his quality is undoubted and he has his feet on the ground," Larsson said to The Sun."It goes without saying the Premier League and England is a completely different culture and he will have to handle that.

"And as long as people give him a bit of time to adjust, he will ultimately succeed at United."You cannot deny his qualities. He has burst on to the scene and done superbly at club and international level."

Larsson added: "I have been so impressed by him whenever I have played with him. He is an important player for us in the Sweden team now and that shows maturity.

"But not only does he have the quality on the pitch but he has a calm and sensible head on him as well. He is a humble guy and has a good future ahead of him."Lindelof and Larsson are preparing for Sweden's away friendly against Norway on Tuesday as they look to earn a fifth consecutive victory.

Man Utd and AC Milan target Belotti 'can refuse' €100m Torino exit

    belotti-cropped_1oleuvjhl7e0c1qo3emtid0zz4.jpg

Andrea Belotti wants to stay at Torino and might refuse to leave even if a team meets his €100m release clause, according to club president Urbano Cairo.

Torino forward Belotti burst into spotlight last season, scoring 26 Serie A goals for Torino and catching the attention of some of world football's biggest clubs.

The 23-year-old has most recently been linked with AC Milan and Manchester United, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter are among the other clubs rumoured to be pondering a swoop.

Belotti's contract in Turin – which was signed last December - includes a €100million release clause for foreign clubs, but Cairo insisted this week that he has gone into the close-season intending to keep Belotti.

And the Toro chief has now insisted the striker himself is eager to stay and thinks his prized asset could even opt to reject a lucrative move if a top club activates his exit clause.

"I care about Belotti and I'm keeping hold of him," Cairo said to Radio 24."He has a contract with Toro until 2021. I would only sell him for €100m, but even then he can refuse.

"The most important thing is what he wants, regardless of the release clause, and I believe he wants to stay."We are trying to build the best possible team at Toro. Belotti is busy on international duty at the moment and then he is getting married on Thursday – he invited me."

Belotti is in Italy's squad to face Liechtenstein in World Cup qualifying later on Sunday.

Chelsea star Costa open to Atletico Madrid return but rules out China

    diego-costa-chelsea_1c486f5w3sg261if1wx01gh7hy.jpg

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has again ruled out a summer transfer to the Chinese Super League - but is leaving the door open for a return to Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international revealed Blues boss Antonio Conte has made it clear that he does not feature in his plans ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League season, leaving Costa searching for a new club.

Costa had previously fallen out with Conte following a January bid from the Far East which the Stamford Bridge club duly dismissed. The 28-year-old remains unsettled in the English capital and has previously made it clear to the Chelsea board that he would like to leave the club.

Costa, who scored 20 league goals for Chelsea last season, is keen on a move to former club Atletico Madrid, but their failed appeal against a transfer ban has complicated that option.

Questioned on whether he may yet have a future in west London, Costa told AS: “Things do not work in that way. The fight for the place has to be fair to stay and fight, but the fight is not fair and I have to leave.“I have a contract of two years with Chelsea, they have to decide.

"If they sell me, I will look for the best choice. Atletico is among them, it would not mean not playing, they can loan me out to some team in Spain, Brazil or wherever, but I have to play. Everyone knows that I have a lot of affection for them.

"Atletico is a club that I have a lot of affection for, independently of whether I go there or not, I will continue to love them."AC Milan have also been linked with a move for Costa, while the Brazilian-born Spain international has rejected the idea of a move to China, as it would jeopardise his hopes of playing in the World Cup.

"Of course I rule out China, I have to think about the World Cup," he said."I have a contract with Chelsea, they have to know what to do with me and I have to wait and know the decision that my club takes.”

Isco closing on new Real Madrid deal as Premier League hopes fade

    isco-real-madrid-2017_1cry31o6wyigl1ox9jf5gqyxsv.jpg

Real Madrid star Isco has revealed that he is close to signing a new contract with the club, seemingly ending the hopes of potential Premier League suitors.

Manchester City have long been linked with the Spain international midfielder, who has one year left on his current contract at the Bernabeu, with Goal revealing there were discussions over a deal in 2016.

But Isco, who produced an impressive assist in Spain's 2-1 victory over Macedonia in Skopje on Sunday, insists he wants to stay put and talks over a new deal are advancing."I have already said we are close [to a renewal]," Isco told Teledeporte . "I am very happy in Madrid and hope to be there for many years."Now it is time to rest as the season has been very long."

Isco started the Champions League final as Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 to win their second European crown in successive seasons and the 25-year-old says he's been delighted with his form at the end of the campaign."I have finished the season very well," Isco added. "Confidence is key for anyone. From the beginning of the season I have felt very comfortable.

"It may be [my best season] because Madrid have made history. When the team results turn out well, they boost an individual. I'm happy about the work I have done and for these three points [against Macedonia]."

As well as picking up his first assist in Spain colours, the 25-year-old was heavily involved with five shots, three of which tested goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.Isco feels any of Spain's players are capable of stealing the show as he turned his attention to September's crucial Madrid qualifier against Italy, who only trail Julen Lopetegui's men on goal difference in Group G.

"I think the game against Italy is going to be the most important match in the group," he said. "But we play at home, so I hope the Bernabeu is a stronghold. Finishing first is dependent on us.

"I'm happy to have the confidence of the coach. I think any of us who play can write the headlines."We are content with the three points because that is what we were looking for."

Man City outcast Hart will find a top club, says Given

    joe-hart-england_du3dxq1m1vwr1bbuh609y9i3d.jpg

Shay Given has backed former Manchester City team-mate Joe Hart to find a Premier League side for next season.

Hart has been left out in the cold by current manager Pep Guardiola, who sent him on loan to Torino last summer. The England No.1’s spell in Italy was somewhat problematic, however, and he was widely criticised for conceding twice in his nation’s 2-2 draw against Scotland on Saturday.

Given, though, believes the 30-year-old will receive a significant offer, despite Hart claiming he has yet to receive any serious interest. “I would be very surprised if Joe is not in the Premier League next season. Probably not at Man City of course with the new signing they have got but another top club will be looking at Joe definitely,” the Irishman told talkSPORT.Veteran shot-stopper Given, meanwhile, feels that criticism of Hart’s performance at the weekend was misguided.

“They were two fantastic free-kicks from Leigh Griffiths,” he said.“The media and people on social media are on his case and I don’t see it. Your job as a goalkeeper is to protect your side of the goal and the wall protects the other side. Joe has protected his own side and it has gone the other side, over the wall.”

Xavi's heir: Verratti is the man to make Barcelona's midfield great again

    marcos-verratti-gfx_d2bsoh1trt3u129sob3hrwura.png

Marco Verratti to Barcelona is a move that seems destined to happen. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder once again spoke of his high regard for the Catalan club ahead of the sides' Champions League tie in February and has been touted by some as the ideal successor for Xavi. Praise indeed.

Barca have long admired the Italian international and in 2015 the player admitted he was flattered by the Catalans' interest as he told Goal: "It is up to the people at Barcelona to decide [if I would fit in], but it is true that I like their style."

And in the build-up to the Champions League clash between Barca and PSG in Paris, he said: "Even though I am currently in a good project and I feel at home, any player would play for Barcelona."

He added: "They have the three best players in attack, and [Andres] Iniesta too. Iniesta, [Lionel] Messi and Neymar create a move in a second."

That is indeed true, but Barcelona are now a team very much known and feared for the quality of their trident in attack — Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar. Gone, however, are the days when the club's midfield was widely considered not only best around, but also the best ever.

That is partly due to the departure of Xavi, who left Camp Nou in 2015 to see out his career in Qatar. "Xavi is the best midfielder in history," Verratti said earlier this year. "The loss of a player like him is tough and many things have changed."

Nevertheless, Luis Enrique also altered Barca's style and the Catalans have moved away from the positional play utilised by Pep Guardiola in favour of a more direct philosophy with faster transitions, more aggressiveness and even counter-attacking football.

Xavi has claimed that he continues to enjoy watching his former club, yet he has also spoken in glowing terms of the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and said in December 2015: "I love Verratti. I like his vision of the game. He never loses the ball. He would fit well in the Barca game. I'd like to see him at Barcelona."

So would many fans, and although PSG are adamant their player is not for sale at any price, the 24-year-old is one the Catalan club's top transfer targets for the summer window. And after losing out to Barca in the Champions League despite a 4-0 first-leg win and then the disappointment of finishing second to Monaco in Ligue 1, Verratti appears ready to swap PSG for a new challenge.

Barca, meanwhile, are in need of renewal after falling at the quarter-final stage in Europe and losing La Liga to Real Madrid. Iniesta just turned 33 and will need to be replaced at some stage, yet the Spain midfielder has shown with his performances this season that he is still one of the world's very best players, and the signing of Verratti would be the closest thing Barca could have to another Xavi at Camp Nou.

"Barcelona’s midfield has not been the same because there are players of such quality that can not be replaced. Like Xavi, he's irreplaceable," French coach Raynald Denoueix told Goal in February. "Or maybe, more precisely, the substitute of Xavi is on the other side, it's Verratti. He has really the same style."

A move would certainly be fascinating. And if the Italian were to sign, he would likely be used in the Rakitic role on the right side of midfield, although the Croatian could still be an option in other positions under new coach Ernesto Valverde.

With Luis Enrique now gone, Valverde may decide on a different approach, with the idea of returning Barca's once-peerless midfield to its former glory in a move back to Guardiola's juego de posición. And if so, Verratti could be just the man to bring about the change.

'I have a contract with Liverpool' - Coutinho rejects Barcelona speculation

    hd-coutinho-liverpool_1fuf3eiio210l1jj0qkizclzuh.jpg

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has moved to distance himself from a move to Barcelona, insisting his focus remains with the Anfield club.

The Brazil international has long been linked with a transfer to Barca, such was his impact under Jurgen Klopp in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign. Coutinho enjoyed his best season at Liverpool since arriving from Inter in January 2013, scoring 13 Premier League goals and registering seven assists.

The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract, believed to run until 2022, but has continually been linked with a switch to Camp Nou and has once again moved to rule out a move.

"Talking about this is complicated," Coutinho told reporters. "I have a contract with my club and it is long."So my focus is on the present and the national team. My focus is here."

Coutinho is currently away with the Brazil squad in Australia and was involved in the 1-0 defeat to Argentina on Friday.Despite the midfielder persistently denying rumours linking him with La Liga, national team boss Tite believes that he would prove to be a huge signing for Barcelona.

"It absolutely makes sense for me that Barcelona are after him," Tite previously told Sport. "I do not want to be pretentious about Barcelona, but who would not want a player like Coutinho, with his magic, his ability to invent and create, to change the rhythm and to build play?"

AC Milan sign Andre Silva to take summer spending to €99 million

    andre-silva-porto-07122016_q4b2j7fe8401jx9s8vuhdn0r.jpg

AC Milan confirmed the signing of Andre Silva from Porto for a fee believed to be €38 million on Monday afternoon, taking their spending so far this summer to €99m.The 21-year-old becomes Milan's fourth coup of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez and Franck Kessie.

Silva moves for much less than his €60m release fee due to Porto's recent fine from UEFA for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play obligations, with agent Jorge Mendes negotiating a transfer of around €38m.

The striker was in excellent form in the Primeira Liga last season, scoring 16 goals in 32 games for Porto, as well as four times in eight Champions League appearances.Silva revealed his delight after completing the move, following a successful medical exam at Milan's La Madonnina base.

“This is a wonderful feeling,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m really happy about this opportunity.“I know the history of AC Milan and I know how big club it is. My dream came true that I can be here now, I will give it all I’ve got.”

This week, both Mendes and Portugal team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo have praised the young striker, with Mendes claiming Silva can be the best player in the world.“He’s a young lad with so much quality,” Mendes told Sky Sport Italia. "He’ll certainly be the best [player] in Italy in the next few years. He can become one of the best strikers in the world, he has everything to be so."Ronaldo tipped Silva to be his heir with Portugal, who has no fears about his nation's future when he quits international football.

"When I retire, Portugal will be in good hands because they have already found a great striker: Andre Silva," Ronaldo told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Donnarumma: Everyone knows my wish is to stay at Milan

    gianluigidonnarumma-cropped_d3po3r7bw61j1frjgjyenp1fv.jpg

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma says he wants to stay at San Siro amid reports he is set to sign a new contract with the club.Donnarumma has been linked with Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid due to his current deal only having one year left to run.

The 18-year-old's agent Mino Raiola claimed earlier this month that 11 top clubs are interested in signing the keeper, but insisted Milan still have a chance of keeping his client. And wonderkid Donnarumma is planning to stay at Milan and insists everyone who matters is aware of his desire.

"Everyone knows that my wish is to stay at Milan," he said to GQ.
"I'm calm and all the parties involved know my will. I feel ready. I'm very attached to these colours.

"Both Mino and Enzo Raiola, along with me and my family, we form a cohesive team."I'm looking for a house in the city to live, a great apartment where there is room for all my loved ones. The centre of Milan is beautiful and I will look for it there."

A commitment from their young keeper will come as a huge boost to Milan, who have also been busy in the transfer market, with Andre Silva set to join Mateo Musacchio, Franck Kessie and Ricardo Rodriguez as close-season signings.

Donnarumma has been tipped as a successor to Juve and Italy icon Gianluigi Buffon, a man he greatly admires. The duo have been working together during Italy's double-header against Uruguay and Liechtenstein over the past week.

"Buffon is a legend and everyone loves him," says Donarumma. "He gave me a lot of advice. I try to steal the secrets of the trade – technically he is fantastic."

Donnarumma was an ever-present for Milan in Serie A last season and has four caps for his country.

Diego Costa transfer to Milan not ruled out by Mendes after Silva signs

    diego-costa-chelsea_1c486f5w3sg261if1wx01gh7hy.jpg

Jorge Mendes has done nothing to dampen rumours that Diego Costa may be on his way to AC Milan. The Chelsea striker was told by manager Antonio Conte last week that he is not in his plans for next season, despite scoring 22 goals last term.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia about the €38 million transfer of Andre Silva to AC Milan, Mendes also mentioned Costa but refused to go into finer detail about a potential move.Mendes said: “Diego Costa to Milan? What I talk to Milan about, I won’t tell the press...”

The Spain international recently ruled out a move to China, amidst rumours Tianjin Quanjin would come back in for him after they had a big-money bid rejected in January.

Verratti demands PSG exit as Barcelona prepare bid for €100m-rated transfer target

    marco-verratti-psg-paris-saint-germain_1gqdjyibnbgg7zfcy23qu1fre.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has told the club he wishes to leave this summer, Goal understands, as Barcelona prepare a bid of up to €100 million (£89m).

Despite having four years to run on his contract, Verratti wants Champions League glory and sees the Camp Nou club as being a better alternative to PSG.

Reports claim the Italy international has specifically asked to join Barca, with them having made Verratti their top target following the arrival of new manager Ernesto Valverde.

Verratti's agent, Donato Di Campli, met with new PSG sporting director Antero Henrique on Monday to express his client's wish to leave and to make clear it was nothing to do with finances.

Despite that, the Ligue 1 outfit are desperate to keep hold of the 24-year-old and are set to offer him a new contract with the promise of creating a team that can compete with Europe's best.

Even if he rejects the deal, PSG will fight to secure the future of one of their star players, with a club official telling Marca that: "Verratti is not worth €80m or €100m - he is not for sale."Barca, meanwhile, are willing to play a waiting game so as to get their man without angering his current club.

They value him in the same price range as Luis Suarez, and as such are willing to offer between €70-100m for a player that the Spanish giants see as having all the best qualities of both Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Should they be successful in signing him, they would then turn to Arsenal's Hector Bellerin to complete their main summer business, with Benfica's €50m valuation of Nelson Semedo forcing the club to look elsewhere for a new right-back.

Verratti is currently on holiday on the Spanish island of Formentera, which coincidentally is where Lionel Messi is also on his summer break, and both clubs will wait to hear from the player directly before anything moves forward.

Morata agent confirms Man Utd bid

    alvaro-morata-cropped_w674tm2hfn8e1pjuahv566qzw.jpg

Alvaro Morata and Manchester United are waiting for Real Madrid's decision on whether to sell the striker, his agent has confirmed.

United have been heavily linked with a move for the Spain international and reportedly had a €60 million bid rejected last week, with Jose Mourinho's side said to be planning a new offer.

Morata fuelled speculation he could be set to join United by 'liking' an Instagram post reporting the link on Sunday, with Juanma Lopez acknowledging the Old Trafford option is intriguing for his client."Manchester United? They are a club with great glamour, a very interesting option," Lopez said to CalcioMercato.com.

"I can say that their proposal is a very, very important one and now the decision rests with Real. I cannot say [if a deal will be closed soon] – we will see."

AC Milan were also interested in Morata, with Lopez revealing their offer simply fell short before they instead opted to sign Porto striker Andre Silva."Yes, there was frequent contact with us until a few days ago – I can confirm that," added Morata's representative.

"Quite simply, Real Madrid considered the Rossoneri's offer to be unsatisfactory."
Morata only started 14 Liga games last season, with Lopez revealing last week that his client wanted to find a situation where he would play a bigger role.

Agent: Verratti exit from PSG 'complicated'

    marco-verratti-cropped_1kfkhrbrzhm1d13549d1h82hm0.jpg

Donato Di Campli said it would be complicated for Marco Verratti to leave Paris Saint-Germain amid growing links to Barcelona, while the agent also ruled out a Serie A comeback.

Verratti was linked with a move away from PSG throughout the 2016-17 campaign and those reports have intensified after the French capital club were dethroned by Monaco in Ligue 1.Di Campli said he has spoken to PSG about their future plans as La Liga giants Barca reportedly pursue the 24-year-old Italy international midfielder, who is contracted until 2021.

"It's very complicated [to leave], but we have expressed our ideas to PSG. We're not talking about Barcelona or other clubs, it's about projects," Di Campli told Sky Italia.

"I think I represent a champion and clearly I have questions. To be a champion you have to win."If PSG don't want to sell him, despite offers from all over Europe, then we'd have to examine our consciences in Italy."

Former Pescara star Verratti has also been linked with Italian champions Juventus and AC Milan but Di Campli poured cold water on rumours of a move to Serie A.
"It's difficult," he added. "I think it's a deal which is still out of the scope of Italian clubs."

Bacca open to PSG move after AC Milan sign Andre Silva

    bacca-cropped_6kaq8w959lg012xoew8wtghwv.jpg

Carlos Bacca is open to joining Paris Saint-Germain after AC Milan signed Portugal striker Andre Silva.Milan sealed the signing of Silva from Porto on Monday in a deal that could reach a value of €40 million.

That is likely to move Bacca down the pecking order at San Siro, despite the Colombia international having scored 31 Serie A goals in his two seasons at the club after signing from Sevilla in 2015.

Bacca's agent Sergio Barila would not rule out the possibility of a move to PSG when asked about his client's situation.A lucrative move to the Chinese Super League or MLS is not on Bacca's agenda, though, with next year's World Cup in Russia central to his thoughts.

"PSG? These days Ligue 1 is one of the best European leagues and Carlos wants to continue in Europe at a good level," Barila told FootMercato."He has had offers from outside Europe, but he told me that those don't interest him. He cares about the sporting side.

"The economic side is not a priority for him at this time, even though there are non-European markets where big investments are being made.

"We are calm at the moment and we have not talked about anything with Milan for now. "He is at Milan. If the club feel they need a new striker… there will be more competition. The transfer market has just started and no one knows what is going to happen in a long summer.

"The player has three years of contract with Milan. He wants to play as many matches as possible."He has been asked for by several big European clubs and we will study everything quietly."

Pekerman: It's 'incredible' James doesn't play more often at Real Madrid

    james-cropped_jf8nb6ox6ae41u6sxswult992.jpg

Colombia head coach Jose Pekerman cannot believe James Rodriguez has struggled for game time at Spanish and European champions Real Madrid.

While it was a season to remember for Madrid, who won La Liga and the Champions League, it was frustrating for James.

James only made 20 starts in all competitions in 2016-17, having been omitted by Zinedine Zidane from the squad for the Champions League final win over Juventus.

Reports have linked the Colombia international attacker with Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter in the off-season, and Pekerman stressed the situation must be resolved.

"It is incredible that a player of that level cannot play more often," Pekerman said ahead of Tuesday's international friendly against Cameroon in Madrid.

"His performances and the amount he plays is important.""I have no doubts that the situation will improve one way or another," he added.
"For the sake of the Colombian national team it is always good for James to have continuity."He is committed and fully integrated and his attitude is important because we ask for 100 per cent.

"I do not want to take the responsibility of telling him what to do, but he knows what is required to resolve his situation."
