Liverpool warned Coutinho won't be able to say 'no' to Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho will find it difficult to turn down Barcelona and Liverpool will struggle to find a replacement, says Graeme Souness.

The Brazilian playmaker has been linked with a big-money move to Camp Nou for some time now, with the transfer talk intensifying on the back of Neymar’s record-breaking €222 million switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

One offer of £72m has already been knocked back by the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp regularly stating his desire to keep Coutinho at Anfield.Souness, though, fears that the 25-year-old will seek a switch if a suitable offer is tabled, forcing Liverpool to reluctantly sanction a sale.

The former Reds midfielder told Sky Sports News: "I don't think you can [turn Barcelona down]."It's a team that would be suitable to his style of play and I don't think he can say no to it.

"It's hard for Liverpool to accept but if he wants to go, ultimately he will go."As much as the club won't want him to go, and he's under contract, I think ultimately if the big players want to go, they end up getting their way."If Coutinho does move on, then Liverpool will be left with a sizeable void to fill in their squad.

They will have money to spend, but time will be running out in the summer window and the very best of the talent will have already moved elsewhere or require some serious persuasion to join the ranks on Merseyside.Souness added: "The problem they have is they are going to have so much money for him, wherever they go next the selling club is going to want that money, they will have to pay a premium, Liverpool.

"Is there anyone out there who could make Liverpool better? Yeah, I'm sure there's players who can influence the football as much as Coutinho."Would they come to Liverpool? Not so sure, but they're going to have a big war chest to spend."

Liverpool have brought in Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson this summer, with Klopp admitting that he continues to keep a close eye on the market for any further additions.

His side will open their 2017-18 Premier League campaign away at Watford on Saturday.

'He is closer to Manchester' - Mourinho hints at Ibrahimovic Man Utd return

Jose Mourinho has hinted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could return to Manchester United, with the striker “closer” to the Red Devils than any other club. The enigmatic striker is currently a free agent after reaching the end of an initial 12-month deal at Old Trafford.

He was among those released by Mourinho once the 2016-17 campaign came to a close, with knee ligament damage having brought a productive season in England to a premature conclusion.

The 35-year-old is still working his way back to fitness, and has been linked with the likes of AC Milan and MLS side the Los Angeles Galaxy, but the option to pen a new short-term deal with United could be explored.

When quizzed on Ibrahimovic’s future ahead of a UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday, Mourinho told Sport Mediaset: "Maybe he’ll stay with us.“He has no contract but he is closer to Manchester.”

Mourinho admitted in July that fresh terms could be thrashed out with Ibrahimovic towards the end of the year if he makes a full recovery from knee surgery. He said at the time: "Possibly, it's open. Of course we wanted to be honest and open and leave everything for him to make the decision.
"At the same time, let's make a decision that makes us all happy and if that is for him to stay and for us to wait - let's say in December maybe, because I don't think before December he can get back to competitive football - but why not wait for a player who gave us so much?”Ambitious Serie A outfit Milan are carefully monitoring the situation as well, though, with director Massimiliano Mirabelli teasing a possible deal to Sport Mediaset.

He said: “Ibrahimovic? In life, never say never. Maybe an old acquaintance of ours could come back.”Ibrahimovic netted 28 times for United in all competitions last season, helping them to Community Shield and EFL Cup glory before taking on a support role from the sidelines as Mourinho’s men ended the campaign with a Europa League triumph.

His position as the leading frontman at Old Trafford has been filled this summer by the £75 million signing of Romelu Lukaku, but a lack of options cost the Red Devils at times in 2016-17 and the need for greater squad depth could yet see him brought back into the fold.

Barcelona's move for Inigo Martinez stalls due to fee differences

Barcelona’s efforts to sign Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez have ground to a halt amid disagreements regarding a transfer fee.

Goal revealed last week that the Camp Nou club were close to reaching an agreement for the 26-year-old centre-half, as they prepared to part with some of the money generated by the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barca were seemingly prepared to meet the €32 million release clause in Martinez’s contract and get a deal done, with Sociedad director Loren Juarros admitting to talks. He said: "It's true Barca have spoken with us.

"They've been in contact to show their interest in the player. But so far there is no offer on the table. That's all we can say."La Real have no intention of facilitating Inigo's exit to any club. He is irreplaceable. We do not want to sell him."

It is Sociedad’s reluctance to sell which is now proving to be a stumbling block, with Barca reluctant to pay the full fee in Martinez’s contract.Instead, they are hoping to reach a compromise which will see €25m change hands and Rafinha head to San Sebastian on loan.

Barca are eager for the Brazilian to play first-team football following a serious injury last season and believe a spell with Sociedad could be beneficial to all concerned. No deal has been agreed, though, and Martinez has no intention of forcing the issue.

Real Madrid 2 Manchester United 1: Casemiro and Isco seal Super Cup triumph

    50vpEgu.jpg

Real Madrid claimed the UEFA Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in Skopje on Tuesday.

Goals from Casemiro and Isco secured a fully-deserved triumph for the Champions League holders, who have now won the trophy three times since 2014.
Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit on his competitive debut, but the Europa League winners looked well short of matching Madrid for much of the encounter in a hot and humid Philip II Arena, where drinks breaks were required.

United beat Madrid on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the International Champions Cup last month, but they were second best for the majority against Zinedine Zidane's side, for whom Gareth Bale started and Cristiano Ronaldo made a late cameo appearance as a substitute.

Jose Mourinho handed first competitive starts to Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof, but it looked unlikely that he would celebrate a win over his old club from the moment Casemiro broke the deadlock after 24 minutes.

Isco's superb second put Madrid in control in the second half and, although Lukaku gave United some hope of a comeback, Zidane's side held firm to win their sixth trophy since the Frenchman took charge last January.

United looked the more settled in the early exchanges, but it was Madrid who came closest to breaking the deadlock, with Bale – heavily linked with the Red Devils of late – prodding a volley over from six yards before Casemiro rattled the crossbar from a Toni Kroos corner. Madrid were slowly taking control of proceedings and they made the most of their superiority – and a debatable offside decision – after 24 minutes.

Dani Carvajal, given far too much space 30 yards from goal, clipped a fine pass into Casemiro's path and the Brazilian steered a fine first-time finish into the bottom-right corner from 12 yards out, although replays showed he had strayed just beyond the United defence too early.

David de Gea saved well from a low Karim Benzema effort, as Madrid looked content to sit back and hit United on the break towards the end of the half, with Mourinho's men unable to fashion any service for Lukaku aside from a deep cross that he headed straight at Keylor Navas.

Mourinho introduced Marcus Rashford for Jesse Lingard at half-time, but Madrid threatened a second more or less from kick-off, with De Gea making a terrific one-handed save to keep out Kroos' rasping effort from 20 yards.

But De Gea was helpless against Isco after 52 minutes, the Spain international playing a simple one-two with Bale that carved the United defence in two before slotting the ball beneath the goalkeeper and into the net.United responded immediately with their best chance of the match, Paul Pogba's header bringing a fine reaction save out of Navas before Lukaku, who was offside, blasted over the crossbar on the rebound with the goal gaping.

Bale hit a shot off the underside of the bar as Madrid pushed confidently forward, but Lukaku grabbed a lifeline for United when he tapped home after Navas parried Matic's shot straight into his path.

Navas made a brilliant stop to deny Rashford one-on-one before De Gea made a stunning save to keep out Marco Asensio's effort, but Madrid held firm in seven minutes of stoppage time to claim the trophy and lay down a marker to the continent.

Barca officials jet off to negotiate Dembele & Coutinho deals

Barcelona have sent a delegation to Germany to try and negotiate a move for Ousmane Dembele before turning their attentions to Philippe Coutinho, Goal can confirm.

Blaugrana officials Raul Sanllehi, Oscar Grau and Javier Bordas left Spain today to begin talks with Borussia Dortmund regarding a move for France international Dembele, as reported by Kicker and Mundo Deportivo. The Camp Nou outfit are hopeful a deal can be done for Dembele, though the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain has left them in a difficult situation.

Barca were initially quoted €90 million for the 20-year-old when they enquired as to his availability earlier in the summer, but Dortmund are now holding out for closer to €150m with the Copa del Rey winners having just come into €222m in the aftermath of Neymar's departure. The former Rennes forward shone during his first season in Bundesliga in 2016-17, scoring six league goals and assisting a further 13 in just 32 appearances.

Goal understands Dembele wants to leave Dortmund, and the player himself has fuelled speculation regarding his future by deleting all references to German club from his social media profiles amid reports he has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona.

The Liga outfit are also keen to complete a deal for Coutinho before the end of the transfer window as they look to replace Neymar and also find an heir to Andres Iniesta.

Goal understands Liverpool will not sell at any price this summer and are not willing to negotiate, but Barca remain hopeful an offer of €110m could see them broker a deal for the Brazil international.

Isco confirms new contract is 'very close' after stellar Real Madrid display

Real Madrid midfielder Isco expects to sign a new contract with the club soon following his man-of-the-match display in their UEFA Super Cup win over Manchester United.

The Spain international scored a fine second goal after Casemiro had put Madrid ahead in the first half, with Romelu Lukaku's strike not enough to prevent the European champions from claiming a 2-1 win in Skopje on Tuesday.

Isco's future had come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with the 25-year-old yet to extend a deal that expires next year despite insisting after last term's La Liga title triumph that he would not be leaving.

However, speaking after the victory, Isco made it clear that he intends to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu."We're very close and it will be done soon," he said of the contract talks, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Isco conceded that Madrid were put under some pressure by United in the closing stages but was in no doubt that they fully deserved to win a third Super Cup since 2014."The game overall was good, we were superior. We suffered a bit at the end against a powerful team," he said.

"They have great players and they started very well. They're a powerful side with big aspirations. But in general, we played a very complete game and we're deserving winners.
"We think of the present and the future. We don't usually fail on the big occasion. It's also because of the dressing room: getting along is much easier. We're building a winning group and we're showing that."

:(Mourinho concedes it is 'game over' for Manchester United's Bale pursuit

Jose Mourinho claims it is "game over" for Manchester United's hopes of signing Gareth Bale, while the Real Madrid star insists he is not interested in the rumours.
The Wales international has been linked with a move to United amid talk of Madrid's pursuit of Monaco star Kylian Mbappe.

Mourinho said he would consider Bale to be available if he were left on the bench for the UEFA Super Cup against United on Tuesday, but the 28-year-old started alongside Karim Benzema and set up Isco to score his side's second in their 2-1 victory.

And the United manager accepts that any chance of bringing the former Tottenham man back to the Premier League appear to be over."I think so, I think clearly the club wants him, the manager wants him, the player wants it," he said. "I think game over. Because I think now he's going to stay."

Bale himself stressed that his focus is on playing for the European champions and made it clear that he has not spoken with the club about the prospect of a move away."I'm just concentrating on my football," he told BT Sport. "I'm not listening to anything. I don't read anything.

"Obviously I get told bits and bobs but I'm just enjoying being here, playing as much as I can and winning trophies. "I haven't had any of those conversations [with Real Madrid]. I'm trying to get my fitness up pretty much after not playing fully for eight or nine months."Casemiro and Isco's goals secured the win for Madrid in Skopje, despite Romelu Lukaku scoring on his competitive United debut.

Zidane and Madrid hungry for more trophies after Super Cup success

Zinedine Zidane said Real Madrid are hungry for more silverware following their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Manchester United.Casemiro and Isco were on target as La Liga and Champions League winners Madrid defeated Europa League titleholders United 2-1 in Skopje on Tuesday.

Casemiro opened the scoring in the 24th minute and man-of-the-match Isco doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half before Romelu Lukaku reduced the deficit just past the hour-mark. Madrid held on for their third Super Cup trophy since 2014.

"We know we've got a lot of talent and that with hard work we can achieve great things," head coach Zidane said. "We're very hungry, we always want more.
"It was a near perfect performance. The first half was fantastic and then we struggled a bit at the end of the second. If we'd have got the third goal, that would have been it. We showed great character and hunger.

"There were great celebrations in the dressing room, that's normal, we never get tired of winning. We controlled things where they are very strong, such as second balls, the high balls. We pressed high and didn't allow them to play. We made it count with the ball and stayed calm. The team's overall commitment is crucial as well."

Zidane, whose side have scored in their last 66 games in all competitions, added: "We know that every game will be more difficult and we'll come up against very good opposition throughout the season.

"We want to give it our all and we've got the ambition to do better and better. Today was no comparison with the pre-season games. We were on it from the first minute to the last."

man u totally outclassed in the first 60 mins. That shows the huge difference between two teams atm.

Eth Fellani & Rashford awata passe hoda comeback ekak dunna. Fellani hodata play kara. Matic uth patta. Hoda intelligent player kenek.

Pogba, Lukaku nam melo wedak ne. Lesi sitters miss karanawa. They have a lot to improve but the squad depth is good.
But I guess tottenham & Man City are the teams to beat at EPL next season.

UCL nam echchara dura yanna bari wei dan thiyana widihata. Perhaps quarters wage yai.

Benz is playing really good. As well as the mid 4 & Back 4. Navas thamai podi podi mistakes karanne. 2 easy rebounds, one lukaku missed & the other a goal.

A good game nevertheless. GG Man U.

96% - Toni Kroos completed 73 of his 76 passes in the 2017 UEFA Super Cup, at least 30 more than any Man Utd player. Accuracy.
