:love:De Gea has shown he's the best keeper in the world, says Man Utd colleague Young

    gyi5wBD.jpg

David de Gea is now the “number one” goalkeeper in world football, according to Manchester United team-mate Ashley Young.

Following a testing start to his time at Old Trafford, which saw questions asked of his suitability to life in the Premier League, the Spain international has emerged as a global star.

He has been a model of consistency for the Red Devils in recent years, with his high standards landing him three Player of the Year awards.

United appear to have come through their post-Sir Alex Ferguson slump, but De Gea remains a key figure and Young believes that his performances have now carried him above the likes of Bayern Munich’s World Cup winner Manuel Neuer and to the very top of the game.Young told MUTV on the talented 26-year-old: "I don't think there is [anyone better].

"I said a few seasons ago I thought he could be the world number one and I think he's shown that he is now."

De Gea was at his inspired best once again in United’s most recent Premier League outingA stunning first-half stop from Joel Matip helped Jose Mourinho’s side to a 0-0 draw away at Liverpool.

The Red Devils have faced criticism for their approach to that contest, with the title hopefuls accused of being overly defensive, but Young insists little attention is being paid to the detractors amid an unbeaten start to the 2017-18 campaign.
The England international said: "We don't listen to it.

"It's one of those things - people will try and criticise you when you're doing well. I'm sure we will look back on it at the end of the season and say it's a very good point for us.

"It's a hostile atmosphere and always tough when you go there and if you can get a win then great, but if you can't do that then you go there to make sure you don't lose. We defended as a team and came away with a good point."

I don't want to hide - Bilic takes responsibility for humbling West Ham defeat

Slaven Bilic does "not want to hide" after West Ham were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion at London Stadium on Friday. After beginning the Premier League season with three straight defeats, West Ham lost one of the following five to seemingly ease the pressure on the Croatian.

However, Brighton, previously winless on the road in the top flight this season, inflicted the Hammers' heaviest home league defeat to a promoted side since 1931 to put Bilic back under fire.

West Ham could now end the weekend in the relegation zone and face Crystal Palace in a potentially critical London derby for Bilic next week, after they have travelled to Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

The 49-year-old took full responsibility for the result and felt Jose Izquierdo's strike in the second minute of first-half stoppage time – which was sandwiched between a Glenn Murray double – provided a telling blow."The board will do what they are going to do. It is their decision. We have been in this situation before and we got out," Bilic told Sky Sports."As a manager, you take the credit and as a manager you take the full responsibility.

"I do not want to hide. I'm not worried [about the sack]. I'm doing my best."It was a bad performance. The goals killed us, the first one very quick. Between the first and second goal we were dominating the game.

"They defended the box really well and at the end of the first half we conceded from a bit of skill from their player. It is very hard for me to say anything clever in this moment apart from it's very disappointing."Brighton boss Chris Hughton was delighted with his side's defensive efforts as they won their first-ever away match in the Premier League.

"I thought it was outstanding," said Hughton. "A huge part of the game is how you defend. You can't stop all the crosses going in - they have really good quality - but you have to defend well. It gives you the platform to have chances yourself and we did that.

"I'm as pleased with the clean sheet as I am with the goals. We used the ball well, nullified the qualities they have and scored good goals ourselves."To come away with a clean sheet in this type of environment shows real quality, real discipline."

'Magician' Conte claims he predicted Chelsea's struggles

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has joked that he is a "magician" having predicted his side would struggle to defend their Premier League campaign back in August.

The Blues are going through something an injury crisis, with the likes of N'Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater among those ruled out for Saturday's clash with Watford.

Conte's side have not won in three matches since beating Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in September, but the former Juventus boss is hoping he can rise to the challenge of bridging the gaps to the Manchester clubs at the top of the Premier League table.

“I was a magician to anticipate it," Conte said with a curious smile. "Honestly, [puffs cheeks] I think to anticipate some difficult situations is not for all. But, for sure, you hope. You hope you won't have problems in your season.

"But, I repeat, I stay here to work. I stay here to put all myself into this club, for the fans and the players. Me and my staff. But for sure I'm a person who is not afraid to face the difficulties. My history speaks very clearly on that. I fought in the relegation zone.

"I started my career very badly, my first experience, but I understood and learned a lot about this. I repeat. I have experience, a lot of experience, as a player and as a coach of facing this type of situations. But I was a magician.

“Now we are in October and we have to think about improving the present. This is the most important thing. To look at ourselves. Don't find excuses. Tell always the truth. If you always tell the truth, you can't be afraid of anything.”Chelsea are currently in fifth, one place below the Hornets ahead of their meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Reports have claimed that some of Conte's players have grown tired of his training methods while speculation continues that he will leave the club at the end of this season, if not before.

Conte has repeatedly refuted these claims and insists he is not looking for sympathy as he attempts to find a solution to their disappointing recent results.“The support is my job. The support is my job, my work. This is only my support.I know only this support in my experience. I don't know other support. The support is my job. To put all of myself into the job.

"If this is enough, it's okay. If it's not enough, [shrugs]. But the only support I know is my job. We are in October. We are in October. It's very difficult because we have just started our season. To have this type of problem [to give up on the Premier League title], it's very difficult to find an answer, to this question?

"We have just started our season and now we have to face each competition with all our strength. The most important thing is to put all of ourselves into our work at every moment of the day. It's important for ourselves, for the club, for the fans to do that. In October, it's very difficult to make a decision on this aspect."Every situation is different because, when I was coach in Siena, it was different. In Bari, it was different. In Arezzo, it was different. With the national team, it was different. Now it is different with Chelsea, facing different situations.

"Not the same situations. You learn every day. You must be open to learn from every experience. This is very important. If you think it's impossible to learn something, you are only a stupid person. I learn every day and I give everything every day.”

Conte, meanwhile refused to answer questions on whether he and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had held discussions similar those that took place last season after the club were beaten by Liverpool and Arsenal in successive matches.

Alexis praises playing style of 'classic striker' Lacazette

Alexis Sanchez is impressed with the playing style of Arsenal's club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette. The French forward has netted four times in the Premier League since joining the club this summer in a £46.5 million deal.

While the Gunners are not off to the best start despite adding the former Lyon striker, with the club sitting sixth in the league through eight matches, the Chilean believes the move to sign the 26-year-old has been a good one.

“When he has a goalscoring chance, he is a good finisher,” the Chile forward told Arsenal Player. “He’s a classic striker.“He was a successful player in France, and the two of us work well together. He’s an excellent player.

“I believe we have [a good understanding]. We haven’t played that many games together but when we have, I like how he plays.“He finds space and understands the game well. He is very talented.”Despite the slow start to the season, the Gunners could climb as high as fourth with a win over Everton at Goodison park on Sunday.

Klopp anticipating Spurs thriller after Man Utd snoozefest

Jurgen Klopp is relishing an attacking battle against Tottenham as Liverpool return to Premier League action for the first time since a sleepy goalless draw with Manchester United.

English football's most fabled fixture failed to live up to pre-match billing for the second season in a row at Anfield as the sides played out a cagey 0-0 draw.

The Reds perhaps worked out some of their frustrations in hammering Maribor 7-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday. And Klopp believes a battle with Mauricio Pochettino at Wembley ought to leave fans with greater value for their entrance fee."That's a nice football game," Klopp told a news conference. "It's a game I think the supporters can look forward to.

"Both teams don't hesitate with any effort, any investment, stuff like this. Both teams are always spot on and want to do the best.

"So far Tottenham did better than we did results-wise but I'm sure they can play better than they played so far. We can play better than we played so far, so it's a really interesting game. So far we did well but that's all, nothing else." Klopp added: "We have a challenge when we go there, they know it will not be an easy game so let's play and see what happens.

"I'm really looking forward to this game, you don't have a lot of these games where both teams are going for everything."It's always against City like this and against Tottenham it is like this and that's it pretty much."

Liverpool's much-maligned defence kept Premier League top scorer Romelu Lukaku quiet last weekend, with Harry Kane providing another stern test on Sunday.

Klopp pegged the England star as one of the world's premier marksmen, while also pointing out the numerous other threats available to Pochettino.

"Apart from [Kyle] Walker this year, nobody left," Klopp said. "That's a big job they did so far and will be a big challenge for them in the next few years because Harry is not only one of the best strikers in Europe, he's one of the best strikers in the world 100 per cent.

"Everyone knows that and Dele Alli as well and [Christian] Eriksen as well, not strikers but midfielders - they're in good moment as a club."

Fabregas left as Chelsea's last man standing in midfield ahead of Watford clash

Cesc Fabregas could be Chelsea's only fit senior midfielder for Saturday's Premier League game against Watford, head coach Antonio Conte has confirmed.

The champions lost Tiemoue Bakayoko to a groin problem sustained in the 3-3 Champions League draw with Roma on Wednesday, while N'Golo Kante is still sidelined with a hamstring injury and Danny Drinkwater is yet to make his debut due to a calf issue.

David Luiz was used as an auxiliary central midfielder against Roma and Conte admits similar tactical changes could be needed against Marco Silva's side.

"At the moment, I can say nothing about the starting XI," he told a news conference. "We have many doubts. I hope to try to recover some players in these 24 hours."Asked if Fabregas is their only fit senior midfield player, he replied: "Yeah, that could be the case."

He added: "I'm not happy changing the role of my players. I think every player has his own role. But, sometimes, you have a situation where you have to adapt and you must be ready to pay for this. It's normal."

Conte says he is unwilling to rush Drinkwater into action too quickly but had a more positive update on Kante, with the France international now expected to return before the next international break at the beginning of November.

"Danny is progressing well. Now he has started to work. It's very important for him to progress well and improve his physical condition," he said. "It's very important to recover him very well. If I try to put him on the pitch without good fitness, I risk another injury.

"I hope to have Kante back very soon, before the international break. He's progressing well, the scan was better. He's started to work, [but] not with the group."If he's available before the games against Roma and Manchester United, I would be very happy.

"Every year you build something and put something new into your team. That was my first season. Now, this season, we are trying to rebuild something at Chelsea. We lost a lot of big players, a lot of big players who wrote the history of this club. Now we're trying to rebuild.

"This season we changed five players, we bought five players. We are trying to rebuild something important. It's normal that you have to pay something in this situation."Watford have lost just one of their last six league games and came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in their last outing, and Conte expects a difficult test at Stamford Bridge.

"Watford are doing very well. They had a really good transfer market and strengthened the squad very well," he said.

Muller close to his old self again - Heynckes

Thomas Muller is showing signs of becoming "his old self" at Bayern Munich, according to coach Jupp Heynckes. The Germany international struggled for form under Carlo Ancelotti and found himself in and out of the starting XI during the Italian's final few months in charge.

Muller, who appeared to criticise Ancelotti's methods when he claimed Bayern would have "good training again" following Heynckes' appointment, has enjoyed a new lease of life since the treble-winning boss returned to the club.

The 28-year-old bagged an assist in the 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg and scored in the 3-0 Champions League win over Celtic on Wednesday, and Heynckes believes his performance showed he is nearing his best once more.

"He's close to finding his old form," Heynckes told a news conference. "He started on Saturday and on Wednesday. He ran 13 kilometres against Celtic; of those 13, he ran one at a high intensity. This shows how important he was to us in that game and that he'll soon be his old self again.

"We have huge challenges and a lot of travelling in the next few weeks. I saw how Thomas sprinted and worked defensively; he was great. He was an example as a captain."

Bayern resume Bundesliga duties against struggling Hamburg, who have just two wins from their first eight league games and have not beaten the champions in the last 17 competitive meetings.

Heynckes, however, insists they are a team Bayern must not underestimate as they look to close the two-point gap to league leaders Borussia Dortmund and stay above third-place RB Leipzig.

"You have to respect the opponent as much as possible. Hamburg are much better than results have shown recently," he said."It's a three-way fight at the moment. Dortmund and Leipzig are, of course, very good teams. We can still work hard in some areas and then we'll be able to improve again.

"We need to play in Hamburg in the way we started. When I see how the team reacts, it makes coaching again a lot of fun."

:love:Mourinho expects Ibrahimovic to return in 2017

Jose Mourinho says that he thinks Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return to first-team action for Manchester United before the end of the year, though admits it's "just a feeling".

The 36-year-old bagged a fine haul of 28 goals in 46 appearances for the Red Devils last season before suffering a knee injury, with fans across the world fearing that the Swede's career might be over.

That is not to be the case, however, if everything stays on track, with Mourinho backing up former striker Andy Cole's assertion that Ibra could return before 2018.

“Zlatan is here, under our control, working as I would expect, so, so hard, but he’s not back in a week or a couple of weeks,” the Man Utd boss told a press conference on Friday.“Let’s let him take his time and be back in the right moment. Do I think he will be back in 2017? Yes I do, but it’s just a feeling.”

Ibrahimovic isn't the Portuguese boss' only injury concern, however, with Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and, more recently, Marcus Rashford all having spent time on the sidelines.

Mourinho delivered some good news in confirming that Rashford is fit and ready to face Huddersfield on Saturday, but admits he does not know when his other stars will be available for selection."We have the same players as we had for the Benfica match," he continued.

“Everybody knows every manager wants to have all the players available it’s just then a question of the way you position yourself in relation to that, the best way you think to do it.

“For some it's better to remember the team is not in its full strength, it's better to remember 'play A or B' and 'C or D is still important for the team'. The way we try to do it is always to speak about opportunities for others.“Paul Pogba is not here, I don’t know when he'll be back. When he is available. I don’t know."

Neymar fined £900,000 for tax evasion in Brazil

Neymar has been hit with a fine of around £900,000 for tax evasion in his native Brazil. The punishment was levied by a Brazilian regional federal court against the star PSG attacker for attempting to hide income through the use of three family-run image rights companies.

In 2015, Neymar was accused of not paying his full taxes between 2011 and 2013, using those companies to get around paying the personal income tax rate of 27.5 per cent. Instead he used the corporate rate, which is between 15 and 25 per cent. The resulting investigation saw £46m of Neymar's assets seized by authorities.

The judge overseeing this case, Carlos Muta, handed out the £900,000 fine Tuesday and declared Neymar’s conduct "characterises litigation of bad faith and a detrimental act to the dignity of Justice" and believed he only wished to obstruct the process. The fine only equals roughly two percent of the money the Brazil’s federal treasury hopes to collect from Neymar over the incident.

Neymar's parents and the companies themselves were also fined.
