Conte quiet on Chelsea links to Dzeko & Llorente but would be 'happy' for transfer help

Antonio Conte has refused to discuss the plethora of strikers linked with Chelsea in recent days, but admits he would be "happy" if the club opted to bolster his squad in the January window.

Chelsea have reportedly considered bringing in a traditional target man - Edin Dzeko, Fernando Llorente and even Stoke City veteran Peter Crouch have been mentioned - with Conte seemingly on the look-out for a back-up to the struggling Alvaro Morata.

And while the former Italy boss was not willing to talk about individuals, he did hint some help would be welcomed.

Asked specifically if he was confident the club would see some new players arrive before the end of the month, he said: "I am confident? Confident is a big word, we have to wait.

"I give my opinion to the club but the final decision is for the club. I have to wait to see what happens. I am very calm in this aspect because I am working with my players in the right way and I am very happy for their commitment."If the club wants to help us we are happy, otherwise we continue in this way and give ourselves every day to give satisfaction to our fans."

Conte was asked directly about Dzeko, Llorente and Crouch but gave a familiar reply, adding: "As you know, it is not right to talk about players from other teams. I am not interested in it. "In this moment I can talk about my players, Morata and [Michy] Batshuayi. It is not right to talk about the characteristics of other players.

"I have always said that I'm happy to work with my players, to try to improve them. Every striker has their own characteristics, in his case Morata has this and Batshuayi has this."

One new recruit now available to Conte is Ross Barkley, who signed from Everton on January 5. The England midfielder played 70 minutes in a friendly on Thursday and is in the squad for Saturday's trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.Conte added: "Ross is in good physical condition. He's in the squad, he's coming with us. I don't know if during the game I decide to give him the chance to play a part or wait."

The champions will, however, be without the injured Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas while Morata and Pedro are both suspended.

Guardiola congratulates Alexis on impending Man Utd move

Pep Guardiola has congratulated Alexis Sanchez on his impending move to Manchester United, insisting the Chilean and his agent have "decided what is the best for them".

Guardiola had made Alexis his priority target last summer and this month, but Goal revealed this week he and his Manchester City bosses pulled the plug on their pursuit after discovering that the 29-year-old and his agent had struck a deal with United.Jose Mourinho confirmed that his side are yet to close an agreement with Arsenal, but admitted that he could not deny that his side "are there" in the race to sign him.

It has been widely reported that Alexis will earn anything between £300,000-per-week and £500,000-per-week at Old Trafford, but Guardiola was not prepared to discuss the financial aspect of the deal.

"I am not the guy with the mathematics, the numbers," he said."At the end what I know is he is still at Arsenal, I think he will go to United.Congratulations to both of them, the players and his agents decide where they want to play, good luck."

Alexis had agreed a deal to join City on two separate occasions during 2017 - last spring and before Christmas - but Guardiola insists he does not feel let down."I repeat, the players and their managers decide what's best for both," he said."There's nothing to add. My opinion of Alexis remains the same. It was always a pleasure to be with him in Barcelona. He has decided to join another club and we wish him all the best."

Speaking generally about January transfers, the Catalan added: "I believe in it if the players adapt quickly and have quality. It depends if they are nice people. We are looking for nice people to come to help if we believe we need them."

Chelsea close to agreeing £22m deal for Roma's Emerson

Chelsea are close to an agreement with Roma over a £22 million move for full-back Emerson Palmieri.Emerson will be offered a long term contract and Chelsea will pay £17.6m up front with a further £4.4m in performance-related add-ons.

The final details of how the add-ons will work are still being negotiated, but the progress is promising and the 23-year-old's agents have publicly stated that it would be a dream move for the player.

His representatives have been in London for much of the past fortnight as they simultaneously negotiate with Arsenal for Bordeaux forward Malcolm. Meanwhile, Juventus and Newcastle United have held an interest in Emerson in the past but aren't expected to compete with Chelsea in January. The Brazil-born Italy defender has only recently comeback from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, having featured only twice since returning.

Antonio Conte has long been searching for a left-back to battle with Marcos Alonso for a starting spot, and he is now ready to sanction a loan move away for the club's current back-up player Kenedy.

Meanwhile, if the Stamford Bridge side are successful, it could put an end to their long-term pursuit of Juventus wing-back Alex Sandro. Juve are look like they will struggle to keep the player beyond the summer, but they are demanding a huge price tag and resisting any moves this month. The 26-year-old, however, is now garnering serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who are weighing up a move.

Chelsea are also hoping to do business for a striker in January to operate as a supplementary option to Alvaro Morata. A move for Andy Carroll looks unlikely after the West Ham man sustained an ankle injury, however. Goal understands that Peter Crouch is one of many names which have been sounded out, with the Blues also linked with Roma's Edin Dzeko.
The plans to sign a new striker will allow Michy Batshuayi to move on loan, with Sevilla very interested in doing a January deal.

Mourinho confirms Man Utd 'are there' in Alexis race but deal not done

Jose Mourinho says that Manchester United have not yet completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, but they "are there".

The Red Devils joined the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in pursuing the attacker, but despite entering the race late, they appear in pole position to capture the 29-year-old.

Reports had suggested that they wanted him in time to feature in the weekend's Premier League match with Burnley, yet the registration deadline for that fixture has now passed.Nevertheless, Mourinho has confirmed for the first time that the Old Trafford side are in the hunt for the player."There is no point in trying to hide or deny, but it is not done at all," the Portuguese said.

"I think clearly everybody knows that we are there and especially when Arsenal manager speaks so clearly like he did." Mourinho added that he has not been involved in any negotiations for the former Barcelona man, who is out of contract at the end of the season at the Emirates Stadium.

"I like to be out of them," he said. "I am out and I will just calmly wait for news, no more than that."

Additionally, the Portuguese confirmed that midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is expected to go the other way in the deal to bring the Chile international to Old Trafford, will not be involved in Saturday's match with Burnley.

Arsenal pull out of race to sign Malcom in January

Arsenal have pulled out of the race to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom in the January window, although would be willing to discuss a transfer in the summer, Goal understands.

The 20-year-old was earmarked as a future replacement for Alexis Sanchez following his impressive performances in Ligue 1 this season but the Gunners have now backed away.

Goal understands Arsene Wenger's side are not willing to pay the French club's £44 million asking price for the Brazilian but do remain confident they could strike a deal in the summer.

Malcom is unsettled with his future up in the air and is keen to play under Wenger, but with Bordeaux, who find themselves a disappointing 13th in the Ligue 1 table, wanting to keep one of their star names it would seem a January transfer is unworkable.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have also emerged as a potential option for the player, with Malcom's representatives open to the possibility of discussions over a switch to Arsenal's north London rivals.

The Gunners have prioritised the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with both players having now agreed personal terms, and believe that the experience the duo possess can push them further up the Premier League table in the chase for a top-four spot.

Malcom has scored seven goals and laid on five more for his team-mates in the French top-flight in 2017-18, with Manchester United, as well as Spurs, having shown an interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Wenger revealed that he didn’t believe a January move for the Brazilian youngster was likely."I don't think we are close to [signing Malcom]," said Wenger. "I don't think [that it will happen in January], no."

Bordeaux president Stephane Martin, meanwhile, has said there was no formal contact between Malcom and Arsenal, with much of the early talks being conducted between the player's representatives and Arsenal officials.

Arsenal must aim higher than Aubameyang and Malcom, says Petit

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has warned the club that to compete for the Premier League title they must aim higher than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Goal revealed that the Borussia Dortmund striker has agreed personal terms with the north London club and they are increasingly confident of completing a transfer before the end of the window.

Arsene Wenger had also pushed for a move for Bordeaux forward Malcom in attempt to soften the blow of Alexis Sanchez leaving for Manchester United, though a deal for the Brazil Under-20 star failed to materialise.

Aubameyang has scored 13 goals in 15 league starts this season for Dortmund after 31 in 31 last term, but former Gunner Petit believes that it'll take more than the Gabon international to transform the club into Premier League title candidates.

“There has been a lot of speculation about the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Malcom coming in – but Arsenal should be aiming higher,” he told the Metro.

“Because they are not competitive on the pitch at the moment, they need to be more competitive with wages. “If you can’t guarantee trophies – or at least compete to win them – then you must offer players more in order to come to the club. That’s the way it works.”

Arsenal are also on the verge of completing a deal to bring Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates, having missed out on the Armenian before his move to United in 2016.

Wenger remains a fan of the 28-year-old and is keen to reunite him with Aubameyang at the Emirates before the end of the month, with the club's new head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, heavily involved in the moves.

Mislintat, who arrived from Dortmund in November, has played an integral part in the transfers and has referenced his experience spent working with them at Westfalenstadion as reason to pursue both players in the January transfer window.

Again, though, Petit isn't sure whether Mkhitaryan is the man Wenger should be signing, comparing his lacklustre work-rate to that of Mesut Ozil's.

“Since he signed for United, he hasn’t been involved enough, and I’m not sure he has a winning mentality," he added.

“Sometimes he reminds me of Mesut Ozil – you really have to push him to show his character, and put him under pressure to display his best qualities.“There’s no doubt he has great skill, but I’m not sure he’s the kind of footballer Arsenal need. They should be focussed on other positions.”

:cool:Alexis will have ‘a massive impact’ at Manchester United – Saha

Alexis Sanchez will become a huge star at Manchester United, former Old Trafford striker Louis Saha has said.

The Chile international is expected to complete his move to the Red Devils from Arsenal imminently, with some reports even suggesting United wish him to debut in the weekend’s Premier League clash with Burnley.Saha, who turned out for the club from 2004-08, has backed the 29-year-old to be a big hit.

“It was really easy for him to adapt at Arsenal and made a massive impact; I am sure he will do the same at Manchester United,” he told Goal. “He will be a good signing; he’s a great player and there’s no doubt about it. “He’s definitely unpredictable and very hard to defend against.

“He brings more goals and chances along with a fear which makes defenders drop ten metres back and this is also because he is very quick. Not many players have skills like him. He doesn’t think twice.” Meanwhile, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to move in the opposite direction as a makeweight in the Alexis deal.

“He’s a great player, for sure,” Saha said. “Of course, if he leaves this early, it would be a disappointment because he has huge potential and one would love to play with that kind of player.

“Sometimes there are things outside football or inside the head of the player. But Henrikh himself has done very well. It’s a situation where it’s hard to comment more.”The Armenia international playmaker has struggled increasingly for game time this season, despite 15 Premier League appearances.
