'I can't imagine Real Madrid without Ronaldo' - Asensio hoping summer sale is avoided

Cristiano Ronaldo is once again being linked with a move away from Real Madrid, but Marco Asensio “can’t imagine playing without him”.

The Portuguese forward has dominated the headlines of late following his shock exit hint in the wake of another successful Champions League campaign for the Blancos.Ronaldo has offered mixed messages since then, while his family and former managers – such as Fabio Capello – have suggested that a return to Manchester United could be on the cards.

Asensio hopes that is not the case, with the 22-year-old eager to ensure that a five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains an illustrious team-mate at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2018-19.

He told Marca when quizzed on the transfer talk: “I can't imagine playing without him. Ronaldo has been, is and will be very important for us. Real Madrid and him always have to go together.”It has been suggested that Asensio could be the man to fill the void for Madrid once Ronaldo does depart, with a modern day icon now 33 years of age.

A highly-rated creative talent is, however, reluctant to be drawn on whether he will ever take on such a role, with his game still very much a learning process at present.

Asensio added: “We're different players. I like to drop a little to receive the ball and have more contact with it, being less of a finisher. Everyone evolves as a footballer through learning and we'll see in the future what position I play.”A man who joined Madrid for just €3.9 million from Real Mallorca in 2014 is also keen to avoid being drawn into a debate regarding his current value.

Big-money moves away from the Spanish capital have been mooted at times, but Asensio claims to be happy where he is and unable to speculate on a figure he would demand in the current transfer market.

He said: “I don't know. I don't control the way the prices in the market are, but it's true that it'll have gone up quite a bit since I signed. These prices are worked out by the clubs and by circumstance. I don't know what I'd be worth now.”
For now, Asensio is focused on World Cup 2018 duty with Spain.

He is a relative newcomer to the senior international fold and is still coming to terms with a hectic few weeks which have seen Zinedine Zidane quit as his club boss and national coach Julen Lopetegui display considerable faith in him.“The Zidane exit took us all a little but by surprise, but my experience with him has been really good,” added Asensio.

“He has trusted me a lot and we have a really good relationship. From the start I had things clear in my mind, knowing what I was coming to. I have worked hard to have these opportunities and he gave me them. It has been the same with Lopetegui. From the start, it was really good as he spoke to me a lot and demanded a lot of me too. This is really important for me.”

'What next? A cold for Firmino?!' - Ramos mocks Karius concussion claims

Sergio Ramos has hit back at the furore surrounding his actions in the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.Mohamed Salah sustained a dislocated shoulder during the Reds' 3-1 defeat in Ukraine, after a tangle with the Spain international.

It has now been claimed that goalkeeper Loris Karius sustained a concussion after being elbowed by Ramos, and the centre-back has defended himself, insisting that the claims can only get more outlandish from here on in.

"Damn, they've given this a lot of attention, the Salah thing," he told reporters, per Cuatro. "I didn't want to speak because everything is magnified. I see the play well, he grabs my arm first and I fell to the other side, the injury happened to the other arm and they said that I gave him a judo hold."After the goalkeeper said that I dazed him with a clash. I am only missing Firmino saying that he got a cold because a drop of my sweat landed on him."Of course, Karius made two costly errors during the encounter, each coming after the encounter with Ramos.

Initially, the goalkeeper threw the ball out, only for it to be intercepted by Karim Benzema for Real's first goal, before he fumbled a long-range effort from Gareth Bale to give Real their third goal.Following the contest, Salah's fitness has been the subject of much debate, but he is expected to play in the World Cup with Egypt this summer.

And Ramos insists that the forward could have played on, had he been given a pain-killing injecion."I spoke with Salah through messages, and he was quite good," he added. "He could have played if he got an injection for the second half, I have done it sometimes but when Ramos does something like this, it sticks a little bit more."I don't know if it's because you're at Madrid for so long and win for so long that people look at it a different way."

Dembele: Griezmann to Barcelona would be 'exceptional'

Antoine Griezmann would help improve Barcelona , according to Ousmane Dembele, who labelled the proposed move as "exceptional".

Atletico Madrid star Griezmann has been heavily linked with La Liga champions Barcelona amid his reported €100 million (£87m/$117m) release clause. The 27-year-old France international, who helped Atletico to Europa League glory this season , revealed he will decide his future before the World Cup in Russia .

Barca winger and international team-mate Dembele said he is excited by Griezmann's potential arrival."We haven't talked much about this [transfer] with Antoine," Dembele said. "If Antoine comes to Barca, it would be something exceptional.

"He's a great player, a great striker, I think he'll help us be better." Griezmann – gearing up for the World Cup where France will meet Australia, Peru and Denmark in Group C – scored 29 goals for Atletico in 2017-18.Dembele, meanwhile, endured a difficult first season at Camp Nou following his big-money arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Hampered by injury issues, Dembele scored three goals and tallied six assists as Barca won La Liga.Reflecting on his maiden campaign, the 21-year-old said: "A first season with many injuries. It's a tough season. I've had a lot of injuries. I had to learn a lot. Despite everything, I still have confidence. The group, the team and the president trust me. We will see what happens in the coming seasons.

"I've made progress in the tactical aspect. But also in defence. I defend much more in Barcelona. Even if we have the ball a lot. It's important not to lose a ball. It's rare for the team to lose the ball. You have to be careful. I have to defend a lot because we are all united."

Belgium's Courtois wary of Kane and England's individual talent

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes captain Harry Kane will be the biggest threat to his team when they face England at the World Cup in Russia.

Courtois and Belgium will meet Group G rivals England on June 28 in their final group game of the showpiece tournament.Kane scored 30 Premier League goals for Tottenham in 2017-18 and it is the England striker's consistency that makes Courtois wary.

"England have a team with a lot of individual talent, you'll have to watch out for several players," the Chelsea keeper said."But the one who scores almost 30 goals every year is Harry Kane. He is the most dangerous."

Courtois' Belgium host Egypt in a friendly on Wednesday and the reported Real Madrid target hopes they can provide a similar test to what they will face against Tunisia at the World Cup, despite being without injured talisman Mohamed Salah.

"It's a shame we can't play against the best team [of Egypt] because they will play without their best player," he said."I think Egypt has a good team. Obviously, with or without Salah, it's different."But it will be a good game and a good test, hopefully a match similar to that against Tunisia."

Willian has no doubt Fred will shine at Manchester United

Willian has tipped incoming Manchester United midfielder Fred to be a big hit in the Premier League.United on Tuesday confirmed an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk has been reached to bring the Brazil midfielder to Old Trafford, with the fee reported to be in the region of £52 million (€60m$70m).

International team-mate Willian is preparing for Brazil's World Cup campaign alongside Fred at their pre-tournament training base in London and told reporters the big-money transfer had been a topic of conversation.

"Of course, no doubt about that," he said when asked whether the 25-year-old would be a success in England's top flight. "He has a lot of quality and he can improve a lot."He is going to one of the best teams in the world. I am happy for him and hope he will do well at Manchester United.

"He's very happy to come to the Premier League to play. We talked a little bit about that. He is excited to start."But now it is time to think about the World Cup. I think he is very happy but now is the time to think about the national team."

Willian has himself been touted for a move to United and a reunion with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after a frustrating season at Stamford Bridge, where he was named the Players' Player of the Year despite often being benched by Antonio Conte.

"I was happy with my performance during the season. I played very well and always tried to do my best, always tried to work hard," he added."Sometimes to stay on the bench is difficult but I respect the decision of the manager."That was that and I have nothing else to say about my club. Now I am focused on the national team and the World Cup and I am ready for it."

'Iniesta is an idol, he can do whatever he wants' - Alonso backs star's Japan move

Andres Iniesta's extra-time World Cup final winner in South Africa marked a historic victory for Spain, and Xabi Alonso believes the significance of that goal should give him all the freedom he desires in football. In a tight match against the Netherlands in July 2010, it was Iniesta's goal that crowned Spain as world champions for the first time.

In April the midfielder announced plans to leave Barcelona, following a long and successful career at Camp Nou, before confirming his move to Vissel Kobe in the J.League at the end of the season.

Eight years on from their World Cup success, Iniesta is once again in the Spain squad and his former international team-mate still thinks he is an important addition to any team and represents an "idol" for all."Andres can do anything he wants, Andres is an idol for everyone," Alonso, who retired at the end of last season, told Omnisport.

"I have to be grateful for life with him for what he gave to us, to everyone; that magical goal. "He can do anything he wants. He will have the admiration of everyone."Spain face Tunisia on Saturday in their final friendly before they start their World Cup campaign against Portugal in Socchi on June 15.

Roma set to complete €30m deal for Atalanta's Cristante

Roma's efforts to strengthen the side that battled to the semi-finals of the Champions League will continue with the acquisition of Bryan Cristante from Atalanta.

Goal can confirm that the midfielder will join the Giallorossi this summer in a deal worth €30 million (£26.3m/$35.3m).He will be the second signing of the transfer window for the club, who have also sealed a move for former Porto left-back Ivan Marcano.

Roma are long-term admirers of Cristante, who at 23 is rated as one of Italy's top prospects in the middle of the pitch.
He is yet another midfield talent to come out of Atalanta, after Milan swooped for Franck Kessie in 2017 on a loan-to-buy deal. Cristante is scheduled to arrive at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening, where he wil undergo a medical.Reports suggest that the youngster, who has five caps for Italy, will sign a five-year deal with Roma with wages of up to €1m a season.

Manchester United set to announce Kohler as sleeve sponsor

Manchester United have agreed a new multi-million pound sleeve sponsorship deal with American kitchen and bathroom manufacturer Kohler, Goal understands.

The Red Devils are following in the footsteps of their Premier League rivals by signing a contract which is believed to be close to £10m, although it’s understood that Arsenal’s £30m partnership with Visit Rwanda remains the league’s biggest sleeve sponsorship deal.

United, who negotiated a deal with dating app Tinder for sleeve sponsorship at the start of last season, were seeking around £15-20m for their sleeve deal but have had to settle for figures below what they originally expected.

Manchester City’s deal with Korean company Nexen Tire, the first agreement after the Premier League permitted sleeve advertising, is reportedly worth up to around £10m in total while Chelsea’s £6m-a-year contract with Hyundai lags behind the rest of their competitors.

Jose Mourinho’s side have over 54 commercial deals in place including kit supplier Adidas, training kit sponsor DHL and music partner Deezer, while they have more unconventional sponsors such as global mattress and pillow partner Mlily and official coffee partner Melitta.

They are seeking to improve their fortunes on the field, meanwhile, after a disappointing 2017-18 campaign, in which they finished as Premier League runners-up to Manchester City and also lost the final of the FA Cup to Chelsea.

Germany are better than 2014 world champions, Muller boasts

Thomas Muller believes Germany have a stronger squad heading to the World Cup than they did four years ago, when they beat Argentina in the final.Joachim Low's side lifted the trophy in Brazil with a 1-0 victory thanks to Mario Gotze's extra-time goal.

After 10 wins from 10 in qualifying, Germany are well backed to defend their title and Muller is confident Low's squad has the quality to go all the way in Russia.

"Individually, without a doubt [we are better]," he told reporters. "But football has developed considerably."Other countries have also come on leaps and bounds and their players have become much more technically refined."Comparing different generations doesn't often get you anywhere. You simply have to keep up with the development of the sport and in that sense, we're ready.

"We are world champions, we have several players at the peak of their powers. We are looking forward to the tournament."And Muller has credited Low for changing Germany's style of play, particularly in the past eight years.

"German football has come a long way since 2010," added the Bayern Munich forward. "Not only given the success in 2014, but in the way we play our football.

"We love to be on the ball. Not to say that I don't admire the old playing style. I personally look for the most direct way of scoring a goal. "We have become a team who looks to stay on the ball, who plays a short-passing game with a lot of movement in spaces in the middle of the park."

'Come on England' - Mourinho backs Three Lions in World Cup predictions

Jose Mourinho has made his predictions for the World Cup group stage, backing England to finish above Belgium in Group G.

The Three Lions are drawn in a group including Panama and Tunisia, as well as Roberto Martinez's Belgium, but the Manchester United boss believes Gareth Southgate's side have enough quality to top the group and set up a knockout stage tie with Poland.

Mourinho was asked to predict each of the eight groups by RT and cheered 'Come on England' when he got to Group G before choosing the Three Lions to advance as the top team from that foursome.

Argentina are also expected to top their group, with Mourinho tipping Lionel Messi to guide Argentina into the knockout stage."I think the little fellow will finish first," Mourinho said as he picked Argentina to finish ahead of Nigeria in Group D, meaning Croatia and Iceland both get knocked out in his prediction.

Surprisingly, the former Real Madrid boss believes Spain will outperform Portugal in their group, meaning his home country will play Uruguay in the last 16. However, he hinted that Portugal could go some distance in the tournament, stating: "I will show later that I am totally Portuguese."

Mourinho had some trouble deciding who would progress from Group H, but eventually picked Senegal and Poland over Japan and Colombia as the two lucky sides to advance to the last 16 in Russia.

Inter close in on Bordeaux star Malcom

Inter are closing in on a deal to sign Bordeaux forward Malcom having agreed terms with the Brazilian.

Goal understands the 21-year-old - who was previously a target for Arsenal and Tottenham - is keen to complete a move to San Siro, though the two clubs are yet to agree on a price.Inter have offered €40 million (£35m/$47m) to secure his services, but Bordeaux are holding out for closer to €50m (£43.8m/$58.7m).

Malcom has become one of Europe's hottest properties having scored 12 goals and laid on a further seven assists for Bordeaux during the 2017-18 Ligue 1 campaign.

Arsenal looked to bring him to the Emirates Stadium in January as a potential replacement for the departing Alexis Sanchez while Tottenham have long been credited with interest.Bayern Munich have also been heavily linked with his signature while the player himself has previously spoken of his dream to play for Paris Saint-Germain.

Inter, though, have now moved into pole position in the race for the former Corinthians starlet as they prepare for their return to Champions League football.

The Nerazzuri will play in Europe's premier club competition for the first time since 2011-12 having finished fourth in Serie A, and have already begun bolstering their squad by agreeing a deal for Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij.

They reportedly face a battle to keep hold of Serie A top scorer Mauro Icardi, however, with Juventus having been heavily linked with the Argentina forward.

Guardiola doubts Neymar to Real Madrid: It’s not easy to leave PSG

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola does not believe it is likely that Real Madrid will succeed in a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar this summer.

The Brazil international left Barcelona last August to sign for PSG in a world-record €222 million (£200m/$259m) deal and proved a success in France, where he helped his side scoop the domestic treble. However, he has been continually linked with a move back to Spain, with Madrid reportedly leading the way for his signature.

Indeed, after the recent friendly against Croatia, Blancos star Luka Modric was allegedly seen telling the superstar: "We are waiting for you."

City have also been associated with the player, with Neymar having admitted that he would like to work under Guardiola one day, but the Catalan has brushed off such talk and suggested that Real will also have a hard time snaring the 26-year-old even if they are trying to pull him away from Paris.

“Madrid? Yes, I've seen that, but I don't know, I don't know,” he said after participating in the Costa Brava Legends Trophy, a golf tournament. “I know that it's not easy to leave PSG. Leaving PSG will not be easy because PSG are PSG, but in football we know that everything's possible.

“Will he sign for Manchester City? I'm not going to PSG and he's not coming to Manchester.”Neymar, who is under contract until 2022, missed the end of PSG’s campaign after breaking a bone in his foot in February, throwing his participation in the World Cup in doubt.

His recovery appears to have passed off smoothly, however, and he featured in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Croatia last weekend in Liverpool, coming off the bench to score a memorable opening goal.

Arsenal complete move for PSG teen Adli

Arsenal have signed 17-year-old midfielder Yacine Adli for a compensation fee of £223,000, Goal can confirm.

The starlet has rejected a contract offer to stay at Paris Saint-Germain after being persuaded by new Gunners head coach Unai Emery who gave Adli his debut when he was head coach at the French giants.

Adli, as first reported in France, has signed a three-year contract with Arsenal, with the option to sign for two more.

An attacking midfielder who has played for his country at Under-16, U17 and U18 level with France, Adli has scored 13 goals in 23 appearances at national team level.Confirmation of Adli’s arrival is expected to follow in the coming days along with an update on Emery's coaching staff and the imminent signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund.

Emery handed him his Ligue 1 debut with PSG last season, with the youth academy graduate playing seven minutes of the final match of the season against Caen, an encounter that finished scoreless. Speaking to Goal, Adli admitted that the Spaniard and his staff made a great difference to his level.

“I think I’ve become more mature, largely thanks to my integration into the adult game with the reserves, certain training sessions with the professionals. I’ve also improved technically and tactically thanks to David Hernandez, who I’ve watched a lot of videos with, which has really helped me," he said in March.

“But I think there are still some aspects I can improve. I’m aiming higher, so I’m full of things that can make me better.”Despite a lack of first-team experience, he has been a regular in the PSG squad that competed in the UEFA Youth League, turning out alongside the likes of USA international Timothy Weah for the young Parisians this season.

The Ligue 1 champions, meanwhile, have struggled to retain much of the best talent coming through their youth system in recent times, with their prospects frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities on offer at Parc des Princes. As such, the likes of Claudio Gomes and Dan-Axel Zagadou have left for the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in recent times.

:baffled::DBesiktas not feline fine after cat incurs Champions League fine

Besiktas' failure to prevent a cat from invading their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in March has resulted in a €34,000 fine from UEFA.

The inquisitive feline briefly brought play to a halt at the Vodafone Arena during the second half of Bayern's 3-1 win, before comically going on to win a man of the match poll held by the Bundesliga giants.UEFA did not see the funny side, though, and Besiktas have been ordered to pay a hefty bill for what was deemed "insufficient organisation".

The fine also relates to the throwing of objects and stairways being blocked.
Bayern were also fined on Wednesday for a separate incident during their semi-final with Real Madrid – a human pitch invader and illicit banner leading to a €25,000 punishment.

Meanwhile, time-wasting by ball boys during Roma's clash with Shakhtar Donetsk earned the Serie A club a warning from UEFA, with the setting off and throwing of fireworks incurring a €7,000 fine.

Martinez backs England to shine at World Cup

Roberto Martinez has backed Gareth Southgate's youthful England side to perform strongly at the World Cup in Russia.

Southgate has selected the third-youngest squad for the 2018 tournament , including uncapped teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold.England's 23-man travelling party are lacking in World Cup experience with just 11 finals appearances among them, but Belgium manager Martinez expects their Group G rivals to impress on the global stage.

"I always followed England very closely," the former Everton boss told Omnisport."They are a group of players that now, with the good work of Gareth Southgate, have brought a group of young players he knew very well from his involvement with the under 21s.

"And then he's kept a really good mixture and has given the English team a real clear direction of players playing in a certain way that has allowed them to compete against the best in the world. "So, I expect England to do really well at the World Cup.

"They are in a really good moment to go into a tournament and carry on the winning feeling that St George's Park has brought to the national teams. "We've seen the success with the under 17s, the under 20s. I think it's something that we're going to see going through the senior level."

Belgium face in England in their final group game on June 28 in Kaliningrad. Tunisia and Panama are the other two nations in Group G.

Man Utd complete £19m move for teenager Dalot

    skysports-diogo-dalot-manchester_4329526.jpg

Manchester United have completed the signing of Porto teenager Diogo Dalot for a fee of around £19 million ($25.5m).

The Portuguese full-back has signed a five-year contract with a club option of a further year, and becomes United’s second addition of the summer transfer window after an agreement was reached to sign Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Dalot only made seven senior appearances for Porto but had previously been a regular for their B team and has also played for his national team at every level up to under-21s.

He will now add much-needed depth and competition to United’s defensive stocks, with Jose Mourinho having been keen to add extra options beyond 33-year-old first-choice full-backs Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

The 19-year-old can play on either flank in the back four, having made his Champions League debut for Porto at Liverpool in March on the less familiar left-back role.Mourinho said of his new signing in a club release: "Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club.

"He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.”

Dalot added: "Joining Manchester United is an unbelievable opportunity for me. I have grown up in Porto's Academy and I am so thankful for everything they have done for me. But the chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn't turn down."

Dalot’s signing comes at a time when Matteo Darmian looks set to leave for Juventus and Daley Blind has also been linked with an exit. Luke Shaw’s future is also the subject of much speculation following the England left-backs slide down the full-back pecking order.

The youngster was featured in Goal 's NxGn XI earlier in 2018, featuring as right-back in the squad made up of the greatest teenagers in the game.
