Bordeaux 2 Paris Saint-Germain 2: Neymar injured as winning streak ends

    6918030-6452359-image-a-82_1543787631718.jpg

Neymar suffered an apparent recurrence of his groin injury as Paris Saint-Germain saw their Ligue 1 winning streak end with a 2-2 draw at Bordeaux on Sunday. The PSG superstar gave his side the lead with his 30th league goal, despite a long VAR review, but was substituted early in the second half at Matmut Atlantique.Jimmy Briand hit his sixth goal against the reigning champions to level the scores before Kylian Mbappe restored the lead, the France forward requiring treatment for cramp immediately after beating Benoit Costil.

Thomas Tuchel had overseen 14 wins out of 14 but Andreas Cornelius came off the bench to head home Maxime Poundje's cross to salvage a point for Bordeaux.

Bordeaux had the better early efforts with Briand having a header saved and Francois Kamano wasting two clear openings, but PSG took the lead in the 34th minute with a goal that was eventually awarded after the use of video technology.

Neymar started the move in midfield and arrived in the box to cushion in a first-time finish from Dani Alves' cross, though a check was required to see if Mbappe was in an offside position in front of goalkeeper Costil.

VAR was not needed to chalk off a potential second for Neymar, who had clearly strayed offside, while Angel Di Maria hit the post shortly before the break, with the Argentina attacker also denied by the woodwork in the second half.Bordeaux again started the second half on top and drew level through Briand's excellent finish, the forward beating Alphonse Areola at his near post with a fine first-time strike.

Neymar limped off soon after and parity lasted just 13 minutes as Mbappe timed a run on to Julian Draxler's throughball perfectly to thump a shot beyond Costil. Mbappe required treatment for cramp in the aftermath of his goal as PSG feared losing both of their superstar forwards, but the France international was able to continue.

And Bordeaux snatched a draw with six minutes to go, substitute Cornelius rising above a static PSG defence to direct a header that went through Areola's hands to ending the visiting side's historic run.

Roma 2 Inter 2: Nerazzurri twice pegged back in lively Olimpico clash

    6916520-6452495-image-a-104_1543785271257.jpg

Roma twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Inter in a pulsating Serie A contest at Stadio Olimpico.Cengiz Under's long-range stunner cancelled out Keita Balde Diao's first-half opener, only for Mauro Icardi's thumping header to have seemingly set Inter on the way to three points.

But Marcelo Brozovic was penalised for handball, after a VAR review, and Aleksandar Kolarov hammered home the resulting penalty to earn a share of the spoils for Roma.

Inter, who failed to rebound from their midweek Champions League defeat to Tottenham, had head coach and former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti sent to the stands late on for dissent and consequently head into Friday's Derby d'Italia at Juventus 11 points adrift of the Serie A leaders.Roma are languishing in seventh and a point will do little to quell rumours Eusebio Di Francesco's job is under threat.

The hosts were denied the opener by the woodwork early on when Patrik Schick's audacious backheel was placed against the right post by Alessandro Florenzi.Nicolo Zaniolo was incensed not to get a penalty following Danilo D'Ambrosio's hack, while at the other end Robin Olsen's quick thinking denied Icardi when one-on-one on the half hour.

Keita wastefully headed D'Ambrosio's cross at the home keeper, but the same combination gave Inter the lead when the full-back's pin-point delivery from the right was poked into the left corner by Keita's volley.Kolarov saw a well-struck 30-yard free-kick saved by Samir Handanovic before the break and Roma got the equaliser in style in the 51st minute.

Under turned sharply and unleased a fierce, dipping 25-yard effort that left Handanovic flat-footed.Icardi made his mark by leaping highest to head home Brozovic's corner in the 66th minute to put Inter back in front but a VAR decision turned the game again.

Brozovic was judged to have moved his arm into the path of Milan Skriniar's attempted headed clearance and Kolarov blasted his effort to the left of a despairing Handanovic.

That was enough for a point, but whether that will be enough for Di Francesco to assuage the growing rumoured discontent in Roma's boardroom remains to be seen.

Barcelona 2 Villarreal 0: Pique and Alena send Valverde's side top

    6914154-6452357-image-a-84_1543778740504.jpg

Gerard Pique and Carles Alena were on target to help a below-par Barcelona to a 2-0 win over Villarreal and send them top of LaLiga. The Catalan giants leapfrog Sevilla to the summit but Pablo Machin's side will reclaim top spot if they beat Alaves in Sunday's late game.

Barca – who had taken just one point from their previous two league games – were far from their best against their lowly opponents and were indebted to Pique's second league goal of the season for a 36th-minute lead.

Ernesto Valverde's were insipid in the second half, but did score a second three minutes from time as substitute Alena latched onto Lionel Messi's pass to clip over Sergio Asenjo for his first LaLiga goal.
Despite Barca's early dominance, Villarreal almost snatched the lead after 13 minutes when Gerard Moreno crashed against the post following sloppy defending from Clement Lenglet.Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele came close for the hosts, who finally went ahead nine minutes before the interval when the latter's cross was headed in by Pique from eight yards.

Messi was denied a second soon after when Asenjo pawed away his close-range effort.Santi Cazorla whipped a free-kick over the crossbar after 69 minutes as the visitors looked to find a way back into the game.

Philippe Coutinho curled a trademark effort narrowly wide before Alena raced clear in the 87th minute to coolly steer over the onrushing Asenjo and add undeserved gloss to the scoreline.

Liverpool 1 Everton 0: Origi settles Merseyside derby after Pickford howler

    6912754-6452107-image-a-92_1543774591572.jpg

Jordan Pickford's incredible injury-time error handed Divock Origi a scarcely believable Merseyside derby winner as Liverpool claimed a dramatic 1-0 Premier League victory over Everton.

Everton had produced an admirable performance and could have ended their infamous Anfield hoodoo had they taken one of their numerous first-half chances, but just as it looked as if they had done enough for a point, Liverpool snatched all three in stunning circumstances.

Trent Alexander-Arnold saw his long punt forward cleared as far as Virgil van Dijk, whose skewed long-range effort appeared to be heading for the top of the crossbar, only for Pickford to inexplicably palm it back into the air, the ball then bouncing off the woodwork and into the path of substitute Origi, who had the simple task of nodding into an empty net.

It means Liverpool – whose manager Jurgen Klopp sprinted onto the pitch to celebrate – stay within touching distance of champions Manchester City, who they trail by just two points, with the Reds continuing to look like the most likely challengers to Pep Guardiola's side.
Everton – winless at their rivals' ground since 1999 – had a gilt-edged chance to take the lead in the fourth minute when Yerry Mina, incorrectly not flagged for offside, somehow headed Lucas Digne's free-kick wide with the goal at his mercy.

Liverpool responded well to that scare and Sadio Mane lashed over from Mohamed Salah's clever ball. However, it was Everton who had the better of proceedings, and they will have been left wondering how they did not take the lead when Alisson produced heroics to preserve parity.

Theo Walcott headed Bernard's superb far-post cross back to Andre Gomes, whose point-blank header was magnificently kept out by Alisson's flying save. Gylfi Sigurdsson attempted to bundle home the rebound in the resulting goalmouth scramble but Joe Gomez cleared off the line in the nick of time.

Pickford denied Xherdan Shaqiri with his leg at the other end, but the Toffees spurned another glorious opportunity when Walcott lost control of the ball after rounding Alisson.Liverpool were much improved after half-time and Salah curled wide before Mane again missed the target following good work from Roberto Firmino.

Mane's wayward shooting performance continued as he failed to trouble Pickford from the edge of the area, and the Reds' hopes of triumph looked to have gone when Origi clattered against the crossbar from two yards out and Liverpool saw appeals for handball against Sigurdsson waved away by referee Chris Kavanagh from the follow-up.

Yet that proved only a prelude to a bizarre ending as Origi, brought on in the 84th minute playing in his first Premier League game since the beginning of last season, took his second chance to write his name into Merseyside derby folklore, sparking scenes of wild celebration typified by Klopp's sprint to rejoice with Alisson.

Girona 1 Atletico Madrid 1: Ramalho own goal earns Simeone's side a point

    6920070-0-image-a-48_1543791539658.jpg

Injury-hit Atletico Madrid missed the chance to temporarily move top of LaLiga as they drew 1-1 at Girona on Sunday thanks to a spectacular late own goal by Jonas Ramalho.

With Barcelona and Sevilla in action later in the day, Atletico could have leapfrogged both teams but Diego Simeone's men had to come from behind at Municipal de Montilivi.Cristhian Stuani scored twice in this fixture last season and he opened the scoring from 12 yards with a penalty he won himself after being tripped by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Atletico were missing captain Diego Godin, Juanfran and Filipe Luis, but the visitors avoided a first defeat in LaLiga since September 1 thanks to Ramalho's late own goal.

Angel Correa's wonderful long pass sent Diego Costa through on goal, the striker beaten to the ball by Ramalho, who could do little but poke the ball into his own net. With Atletico's patched-up defence struggling, volleys from Alex Granell and Stuani flew narrowly off target.

Saul Niguez was filling in at left-back but he darted on to a Costa pass to play a one-two with Antoine Griezmann and thunder a drive against the underside of the crossbar. But Girona took the lead on the stroke of half-time, VAR ruling Stuani was tripped by Oblak just inside the penalty area, with the striker picking himself up to smash home from 12 yards.

Girona goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was quick off his line to halt Griezmann but Girona could have doubled their advantage when Oblak denied Granell at his near post.Correa saw a 76th-minute shot deflect just wide before Saul forced Girona's substitute goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz into a wonderful fingertip save, Bounou having hurt his groin.

Iraizoz could do nothing about Atletico's 82nd-minute equaliser, though, Ramalho stretching to tackle Costa after the Spain striker brilliantly controlled the ball, but only managing to toe a remarkable finish into his own net from 20 yards.
Gelson Martins could have won it in the third minute of added time but he rifled straight at the legs of Iraizoz after holding off the challenge of Bernardo Espinosa.

Arsenal 4 Tottenham 2: Aubameyang double inspires thrilling derby triumph

    6909834-6452015-Lucas_Torreira-a-53_1543765865263.jpg

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice to help Arsenal to a thrilling 4-2 derby win over Tottenham at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The striker became the first Premier League player to reach 10 goals for the season before late strikes from Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira secured all three points for Unai Emery's rampant side.

Mauricio Pochettino's men, who saw Jan Vertonghen sent off late on, led 2-1 at half-time thanks to Eric Dier and Harry Kane, but the result sees them drop out of the top four at the expense of their north London rivals.

The Gunners' dominant start was rewarded 10 minutes in, when Aubameyang swept home from the spot after Vertonghen intercepted a cross towards the six-yard box with a raised hand.

Spurs found themselves level with half an hour played, though, when Bernd Leno failed to keep out Dier's near-post header from a Christian Eriksen free-kick, after which a melee ensued among the Arsenal substitutes and Spurs' celebrating players.

Dier looked to be marginally offside and referee Mike Dean was in the spotlight again four minutes later, when he penalised Rob Holding for sliding in on Son despite minimal contact, allowing Kane to make it 2-1 from 12 yards.

Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey came on at half-time and the latter helped the Gunners draw level, steering Hector Bellerin's pass to Aubameyang, who bent a sublime first-time finish past the static Lloris.

Chances came and went before Arsenal got the crucial fifth goal 17 minutes from time, when Ramsey robbed Juan Foyth and Lacazette's strike spun in off Dier's shin.Torreira's first for the club followed three minutes later when he slotted past Lloris and celebrated with gusto.

Vertonghen was dismissed in the closing stages to compound a miserable day for the visitors.

Chelsea 2 Fulham 0: Below-par Blues back to winning ways

    6907646-6451791-image-a-82_1543758367452.jpg

Chelsea responded to their first Premier League defeat of the season by putting west London rivals Fulham to the sword in a routine 2-0 win.Maurizio Sarri's men were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham last time out in the league but, after easing to a 4-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League, did not to produce their best to resume normal service.

Pedro pounced on a poor passage of play from the visitors to open the scoring after just four minutes, and an excellent team goal finished off by Ruben Loftus-Cheek made the points safe late on.

Fulham had briefly threatened a leveller before that decisive blow, making it an unhappy return to Stamford Bridge for Claudio Ranieri, whose side remain bottom, while Chelsea at least momentarily move up to third.

It took a mere 220 seconds for Fulham's defensive woes to continue as sloppy play in midfield led to Chelsea's opener, their 1000th home goal in the Premier League.

Cyrus Christie's poor pass put Jean Michael Seri in trouble and he was dispossessed by N'Golo Kante. The France midfielder played in Pedro down the right and the former Barcelona winger finished in style, cleverly evading Alfie Mawson before slotting into the bottom-left corner.

Sergio Rico was left relatively helpless but the Fulham goalkeeper was required to prevent Olivier Giroud from doubling Chelsea's lead, producing a fine stop to keep out his close-range effort after the ex-Arsenal striker latched on to Cesar Azpilicueta's right-wing cross.Fulham started the second half in much more promising fashion and Seri almost atoned for his earlier error, delivering a fine corner from which Calum Chambers saw his near-post header brilliantly kept out by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chambers forced Kepa into a diving save as Fulham threatened what had previously looked an extremely unlikely equaliser.A glorious chance to end any Fulham hope went begging as substitute Alvaro Morata lashed over from point-blank range after Rico turned Eden Hazard's deflected effort into his path.

However, Rico was helpless as Loftus-Cheek finally put the game to bed, playing a part in and emphatically finishing off a wonderful move involving Pedro and Hazard.

AC Milan 2 Parma 1: Kessie penalty completes comeback

    wire-6917968-1543787567-447_634x375.jpg

AC Milan fought back from a goal down to beat Parma 2-1 and move back into Serie A's top four.A Patrick Cutrone strike and a Franck Kessie penalty, awarded after a VAR review, saw the Rossoneri overturn Roberto Inglese's first-half opener and end a run of two league matches without a victory.Parma players were far from pleased with the intervention from the video system, as their three-game unbeaten run came to an end at San Siro.

Milan's first-half dominance yielded little more than two close efforts from the lively Suso, who was the biggest threat in attack in the absence of the suspended Gonzalo Higuain.

Riccardo Gagliolo somehow headed wide for the visitors from six yards, although a foul had been awarded against Antonino Barilla, but Milan's set-piece frailties proved their undoing early in the second half.Matteo Scozzarella whipped in a corner and Inglese escaped Kessie to glance a fine header past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Gattuso introduced Fabio Borini in the hope of inspiring a response, but it was Cutrone who levelled before the hour, steering a volley off the inside of the right-hand post and into the net, the goal standing after a VAR check.

The video assistant came to Milan's aid again 67 minutes in, when Alessandro Bastoni was eventually penalised for meeting a cross with outstretched arms, allowing Kessie to rifle home from the spot.

Alberto Grassi steered wide after beating the offside trap with seven minutes to play, which proved to be the final opportunity for Parma to avoid a 14th defeat in 16 away games against Milan.

Ronaldo must score every Juve penalty to be forgiven for Madrid heroics - Allegri

Cristiano Ronaldo must always score Juventus' penalties so he can be forgiven for haunting the club in last season's Champions League, coach Massimiliano Allegri joked following a 3-0 win over Fiorentina.

Ronaldo's 98th-minute penalty for Real Madrid saw the La Liga giants knock Juve out of Europe in a controversial quarter-final tie in back in April. The Portuguese superstar has since joined the Italian outfit, and he took his tally to 11 goals in 18 games with a spot-kick in Saturday's win.

The goal saw the former Madrid and Manchester United star match a 50-year-old scoring mark with the Italian giants as he continued a fine start to life at the club. But Allegri joked that, to be forgiven for hurting Italian outfit in the past, his new star must now take, and make, all of his club's spot-kicks."Ronaldo takes the penalties," he told a news conference.

"After he's scored that one against us in the [98th] minute at 139km/h, am I supposed to let somebody else do that?"He has to do something to be forgiven."He's got to take penalties and score... always."

Juve are now 11 points clear atop Serie A after their 13th win and their manager was pleased with how his side saw out a tough fixture.“It wasn’t easy, as the atmosphere was passionate and the whole city had been waiting for this game," he said. "I asked the lads to stay solid and after a period where we didn’t play all that well, allowing them to keep the ball for 10 minutes straight, we reorganised.

“The second goal helped us shake off the tension and we relaxed into our lead. We had more chances and could certainly have gone 2-0 up earlier.“You have to be wary, as in Florence the games are never over until the final whistle, they have great technique and pace, but we defended well on their crosses.”

Juve will be in for a test in their next fixture, with Allegri's side set to host third-place Inter in an enticing Serie A clash next Friday.

Modric beats Ronaldo, Griezmann, Mbappe & Messi to 2018 Ballon d'Or prize

    6962078-6456033-The_experienced_midfielder_has_enjoyed_a_brilliant_year_for_both-m-31_1543876474913.jpg

Luka Modric has beaten off competition from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi to be named the winner of 2018's Ballon d'Or.

The Real Madrid midfielder played a pivotal role for his club as they stormed to a third consecutive Champions League title, as well as captaining Croatia to second place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

With France having won the World Cup, Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and even Modric's fellow Madrid team-mate Raphael Varane had been amongst the favourites alongside the evergreen duo of Ronaldo and Messi.

However, the Croatian's exploits across the year - which included being awarded the Golden Ball at the World Cup - have seem him emerge ahead of the rest of the pack and become the first from his country to lift the award.

Indeed, Modric has become the first player to break Messi and Ronaldo's duopoly of the award since 2007, with Brazil icon Kaka being the last to lift the trophy before the Argentine and Portuguese stars collected five each across the following years.

"It's a unique feeling, I'm happy, proud and it's an honour," he said as he accepted the award. "[There are] extraordinary emotions at the moment."I just want to thank all those who helped me to be here tonight, I thank my team-mates, my coaches, the staff and Real Madrid, all those who work there, the coaches and team-mates in the national team, the ones who voted for me and my family, which allows me to blossom as a person.

"Always have dreams, I wanted to play in a big club, win titles, the Ballon d'Or is all I could dream [about] as a child, it's an honour to win it tonight."It's a great pleasure to be here around these players. I keep thinking, I'm trying to get used to being part of this group of exceptional players who have won the Ballon d'Or in history. It's a great pleasure to be part of this group.

"Throughout my career I understood that work, persistence, believing in yourself, is the basis for expressing your talent. I like a saying - the best is never easy. For me, it was not easy. It was necessary to seize the opportunities."The midfielder believes changing his role in midfield has been a turning point in his career, saying it all came together while he was at Tottenham.

"Changing position allowed me to develop my game, before I was more an offensive player. When I retreated, I had a better vision of the game, I could better express my creativity, my game. In my second year in Tottenham, I played midfielder and I felt better in the middle."

Modric, who also won FIFA's Best Men's Player award this year, finished ahead of his former Madrid team-mate Ronaldo in the vote, making the Portuguese icon settle for second place for the first time in three years.

France star Griezmann took third place in the poll, with fellow World Cup winner Mbappe was close behind. Messi, meanwhile, dropped outside the top two for the first time in 11 years and came in fifth this time.

Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe has been named the winner of the inaugural Trophee Kopa award, handed out by France Football during the Ballon d'Or ceremony for the best young player under 21.

Mbappe, who lifted the World Cup in France as well as storming to yet another Ligue 1 title with PSG, beat off competition from the likes of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic and Roma's Justin Kluivert to be named the victor.

"I am very happy to receive this award," Mbappe said. "This rewards a great year, which I realise is thanks to all my team-mates in club and national team."I will never forget the adventure of the World Cup. It's a good time to thank them. And it's an extra motivation to keep working.

"My next goal? It is to lift everything (not only the Ballon D'Or). It will be with hard work and I'll need help from my team-mates".The 19-year-old forward, who will turn 20 on December 20, is coming off a magnificient year for both club and country.

In his first year with PSG after €180 million loan-to-buy move from Monaco, Mbappe managed 13 goals and eight assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances, while adding another four goals and three assists for the club in the Champions League."I will never forget the adventure of the World Cup. Salah beats Aguero and Hazard to FSF Player of the Year

Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Supporters' Federation's 2018 Player of the Year. The Egyptian attacker finished first in a poll of 366,000 fan votes, beating fellow candidates Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Eden Hazard, Harry Maguire and Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk.

The 26-year-old wins the award after an excellent 2018 in which he helped guide the Reds to the Champions League final, and he is in good form this season again with nine goals in 20 appearances for the Merseyside outfit. The announcement of his accolade came on the same day it was revealed he finished sixth in the Ballon d'Or chart, behind Lionel Messi.

“Thank you for this award, it means so much to me because it was voted for by supporters,” Salah said as he accepted his FSF award.“Usually I share any awards with my teammates and all the staff at Liverpool, but on this occasion I would like also to dedicate it to the Liverpool fans for their incredible support. Thank you.”

Salah is the third player to win the award since its inauguration in 2013. Luis Suarez was the first winner after a stunning campaign at Anfield, while Philippe Coutinho won it in 2016.Last year, it was won by Tottenham and England star Harry Kane.

After his 32 goal season in the Premier League and appearance at the Champions League final, the former Chelsea and Roma player is gunning for silverware this term."My target last season was not only to break the [goalscoring] record but also to win something with the club," Salah said last week.

"We were very close in the Champions League final but this is football, we have to accept the result."This time also I can't say my individual one but my target now is to win something for the club. This would be huge for us as a team and as players."It's also a dream for the city and for the fans. I think this season we are going to do something."
