:love:Manchester United 4 Fulham 1: Lukaku and Rashford lift Mourinho gloom

    7172214-6474509-image-a-13_1544283305935.jpg

Romelu Lukaku celebrated his return to the Manchester United starting line-up with a goal as Jose Mourinho's under-fire side breezed to a 4-1 win over an abject Fulham.

Lukaku's close-range finish was his first at Old Trafford for 997 competitive minutes and followed efforts from Ashley Young and Juan Mata inside the opening half hour.

Claudio Ranieri's team lived down to the reputation of the Premier League's bottom club and any encouragement from Aboubakar Kamara's 67th-minute penalty was extinguished by Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa's red card 47 seconds later.

Marcus Rashford completed United's first win in five league games, achieved with Paul Pogba as an unused substitute, which lifts them up to sixth.
Young did a fine job of lifting the prevailing mood at Old Trafford by nutmegging Denis Odoi on the left in the 13th minute and arrowing a superb strike into the top-right corner.

Lukaku's pass cut Fulham apart down the same flank and Mata's finish through the legs of Tim Ream matched the precision of Rashford's cutback – the England forward whose venomous free-kick was well saved by Sergio Rico in the 38th minute.Unfortunately for the Fulham goalkeeper, the defensive efforts in front of him remained woefully tepid and Jesse Lingard released Mata to give Lukaku a simple finish before half-time.

Rico bravely threw himself at Lukaku's feet to save following a teasing cross from Diogo Dalot early in the second half.Chris Smalling departed through injury, doing little to knock United out of their stride as Ander Herrera side-footed narrowly wide.

The Spanish midfielder was then harshly adjudged to have fouled Kamara, who converted from the spot.Hopes of a Fulham revival were short-lived as Anguissa challenged Rashford untidily and was shown a second yellow card.

The overworked Rico saved well from Rashford and Lukaku following the introduction of Fred as a substitute. Given those stops, it was somewhat galling when the ex-Sevilla keeper patted Rashford's speculative 83rd-minute effort into the net.

Arsenal 1 Huddersfield Town 0: Gunners up to third thanks to Torreira's overhead kick

    7173680-6474511-image-a-36_1544287740072.jpg

Lucas Torreira's 83rd-minute overhead kick earned Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town that moved them into the top four and extended their unbeaten run to 21 games in all competitions.

The Gunners had scored in each of their 14 Premier League matches since a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in their opening fixture, but they were frustrated by a stubborn Huddersfield side until Torreira's strike late on.Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who had missed a great chance in the first half, provided the assist with a chip into the middle that an unmarked Torreira acrobatically fired in.

Arsenal moved up to third with the victory while Huddersfield dropped into the relegation zone.

Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang were paired together and both strikers spurned clear chances within a minute just before the half-hour mark.Aubameyang directed Granit Xhaka's attempted shot wide before Lacazette slipped and fired over when found by Matteo Guendouzi.

Referee Paul Tierney handed out seven first-half yellow cards – five of those shown in as many minutes – and Arsenal felt further injustice when Lacazette was denied the opener having been adjudged offside, though the flag only went up after Huddersfield's Mathias Jorgensen had touched the ball.As he did against Tottenham, Arsenal boss Unai Emery made a double switch at half-time as he brought on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi.

Huddersfield were also forced into two alterations in quick succession due to injury, and between the two substitutions Alex Pritchard was denied a penalty when he claimed Hector Bellerin clipped him.

Shkodran Mustafi then picked up an injury and forced Emery into a final change in the 66th minute, and the alternations contributed to Arsenal's lack of fluency.Yet seven minutes from time Torreira finally broke Huddersfield's resistance.

Aubameyang brought down Guendouzi's ball in the box and though his initial effort was blocked by Terence Kongolo, the Gabon international spotted Torreira and lifted the ball into the midfielder to smash in an emphatic winner.

Chelsea 2 Manchester City 0: Kante and David Luiz hand champions first defeat

    7177202-6474743-image-a-103_1544296593057.jpg

Manchester City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season as N'Golo Kante and David Luiz secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The reigning champions were on top from the outset, but Pep Guardiola's decision to play Raheem Sterling through the middle in the absence of the injured Sergio Aguero failed to pay dividends and they were unable to regain top spot from Liverpool, who beat Bournemouth 4-0 earlier on Saturday to edge a point clear.Chelsea were forced to sit deep for much of the opening period before Kante scored with their first shot on target in the 45th minute.

Maurizio Sarri's team were well-drilled in the second half and a 78th-minute header from David Luiz sealed a huge victory after a run of just one win in four.

Chelsea tried to press the visitors high from kick-off, but Guardiola's side were capable of passing their way out of any situation and they dictated terms. However, it was not until the 33rd minute that City truly threatened, Sterling turning Marcos Alonso easily and finding Leroy Sane for a shot that deflected over off Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chelsea then punished City against the run of play on the stroke of half-time with a swift break, Kante firing into the roof of the net after he was teed up by Eden Hazard, who led the line ahead of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.

The Blues carried the momentum into the second period and Willian had a free-kick pushed away by Ederson, with Guardiola responding by sending Gabriel Jesus on for Sane.Kepa Arrizabalaga parried a free-kick from Kyle Walker as City, who saw David Silva hobble off with an injury in the 68th minute, laboured in their search for an equaliser.

David Luiz ensured the visitors' 14-game unbeaten run in away Premier League matches was ended when he beat John Stones to Hazard's corner - which Guardiola was adamant was incorrect to award - and looped a header beyond Ederson.

Leicester City 0 Tottenham 2: Latest Son stunner buoys Spurs for Barca mission

    7179674-0-image-m-34_1544303448695.jpg

Tottenham tuned up for their crunch Champions League clash against Barcelona with a clinical 2-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City.Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen were able to rest up on the bench and enjoy a stunning Son Heung-min opener on the stroke of half-time.

Dele Alli headed in his 50th goal for Spurs in all competitions to make the points safe, moving Mauricio Pochettino's side back up to third in the table following Chelsea's 2-0 win over champions Manchester City earlier on Saturday.

Tottenham now face the daunting task of needing to better Inter's result against PSV when they take on Barca, who were in rampant form in a 4-0 derby demolition of Espanyol in LaLiga.

As Kane watched on, Spurs dominated possession with some slick play but lacked a cutting edge during the opening 45 minutes.Son's wild and wayward free-kick was entirely out of keeping with what he produced in first-half stoppage time.

Shortly after Wes Morgan produced a brilliant last-ditch tackle to deny Alli, the Korea international shifted the ball on to his left foot and, from 25 yards, crashed an unstoppable strike past Kasper Schmeichel. In an attempt to rouse his side from their creative slumber, Claude Puel brought on Rachid Ghezzal and Marc Albrighton for Vicente Iborra and Kelechi Iheanacho.

But Leicester were dealt a body blow as Nampalys Mendy coughed up possession and Son turned provider, scampering into space on the left flank to cross for Alli to power past Schmeichel's best efforts.

Eriksen and Kane were then handed late run outs before right-back Serge Aurier worryingly hobbled off and Leicester's challenge fizzled out – the ninth-placed club seeing their unbeaten Premier League run halted after six matches.

Espanyol 0 Barcelona 4: Magical Messi dazzles in derby demolition

    7179056-0-image-a-15_1544302141085.jpg

Lionel Messi produced an incredible individual performance as LaLiga leaders Barcelona demolished Espanyol 4-0 in Saturday's Catalan derby.Messi placed fifth in this week's Ballon d'Or voting, the first time he has been outside the top three since 2006, but offered a timely reminder of his enduring brilliance at RCDE Stadium.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was inspirational for Barca, opening the scoring with an unstoppable free-kick, then setting up Ousmane Dembele for a superb curling finish.

Dembele sent Luis Suarez clear for Barca's third before half-time with Messi adding his ninth free-kick goal in LaLiga in 2018 after the break to wrap up a completely dominant derby victory.
Barca led in the 17th minute thanks to the first moment of Messi magic in an astounding display. The Barca captain, playing in this fixture for a joint-record 32nd time, beat Diego Lopez with a perfect free-kick from 25 yards that curled away from the goalkeeper's despairing dive.

Messi was leading Espanyol a merry dance and he set up Barca's second in the 26th minute, twisting and turning defenders on the edge of the box before slicing the back four open with a fine pass for Dembele, who cut inside and fired across Lopez into the top-right corner.Suarez and Messi hit the post in quick succession as Espanyol completely failed to cope with Barca's attacking movement and sublime passing, a third goal arriving before the break.

Dembele was the creator this time with a superb pass to Suarez, who slipped his finish through the legs of Lopez from a tight angle. To their credit Espanyol started the second half on top but they could do little to stop Messi, who beat Lopez again with another unbelievable free-kick in the 65th minute, this time from 30 yards.

Oscar Duarte saw a consolation goal ruled out for offside by VAR when he volleyed in Sergio Garcia's free-kick, with Espanyol at least able to restrict the damage to a four-goal defeat.

Schalke 1 Borussia Dortmund 2: Sancho grabs winner in Revierderby

    7179542-6474847-image-a-5_1544303015542.jpg

Jadon Sancho became Borussia Dortmund's youngest ever goalscorer in the Revierderby as Lucien Favre's men claimed local bragging rights and a fifth consecutive Bundesliga victory by beating Schalke 2-1 in Gelsenkirchen.

Thomas Delaney gave Dortmund the lead after just seven minutes, scoring the derby's fastest goal in 19 years, but Schalke hit back when Marco Reus conceded a second-half penalty that Daniel Caligiuri converted.

Sancho settled the match with just over 15 minutes left on the clock and the result leaves Schalke sliding towards the relegation zone after an erratic run of form in which they have lost two and drawn one of their last four league matches, despite also picking up a 5-2 win over Nurnberg.

Dortmund, meanwhile, can continue to enjoy life at the top of the Bundesliga after showing their mettle and carefully negotiating a tricky derby that could have been something of a banana skin in their season.
Lucien Favre's men have not made a habit of scoring early goals in recent weeks but they raced ahead when Delaney was given the freedom of the penalty area to meet Marco Reus' free-kick, the midfielder heading past the stranded Ralf Fahrmann.

Schalke steadied themselves and should have equalised when forward Guido Burgstaller had a chance from point blank range after 27 minutes, but Roman Burki made a good reaction save.

A foul in the penalty area by Reus on Amine Harit led the referee to consult VAR before pointing to the spot on the hour mark and Caligiuri slotted the ball low to the goalkeeper's left to level the match.

But Schalke's defensive frailties let them down when substitute Raphael Guerreiro played a simple pass to Sancho on the left flank and the teenager strode into the box, opened his body and beat Farhmann with a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Cardiff City 1 Southampton 0: Vestergaard lapse condemns Hasenhuttl to losing start

Ralph Hasenhuttl received a sobering lesson as to his tough task at Southampton as Jannik Vestergaard's error gifted Cardiff City a 1-0 home win on Saturday.

Callum Paterson was the beneficiary of a poor Vestergaard backpass that condemned the Saints, who sacked Mark Hughes following last weekend's draw with Manchester United, to a seventh loss in 11 Premier League matches. The visitors had looked to have steadied following a first half in which they rode their luck for long periods, Alex McCarthy making several important stops.

But there was little the goalkeeper could do to atone for his team-mate's game-changing mistake as ex-RB Leipzig boss Hasenhuttl was left to ponder how best to fix a defence that continues to undermine their bid to escape the drop zone. Southampton are three points adrift of safety, while Cardiff are now four points clear of the bottom three.Cardiff were on top from the outset and would have been ahead early had Harry Arter connected cleanly with an inviting volley.

Mario Lemina was no more clinical in the opposite box, the midfielder slicing over when Paterson's defensive header from a corner looped into the air and rebounded kindly off the crossbar.

McCarthy, having twice foiled Josh Murphy, was called on once more before the break to tip over a thunderous Nathaniel Mendez-Laing drive.Southampton improved after the restart and were aggrieved not to have been awarded a penalty on the hour, Victor Camarasa's outstretched leg appearing to make slight contact with Stuart Armstrong.

A contest short on attacking quality always seemed likely to be decided by a mistake and so it proved in the 74th minute, Vestergaard selling McCarthy short under scant pressure and enabling makeshift striker Paterson to seal his side's fourth home win in five fixtures.

Bournemouth 0 Liverpool 4: Hat-trick hero Salah sends Reds top

    7170584-6474305-image-a-66_1544278428723.jpg

Mohamed Salah was the star of the show with a hat-trick as Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 away from home to go top of the Premier League for at least a few hours.

Jurgen Klopp said pre-game that Manchester City would feel no added pressure for their trip to Chelsea if the Reds were to briefly go above them, but the champions now have to prove his point, as Salah led a rout at the Vitality Stadium.
There was more than a hint of fortune about Liverpool's first-half opener, as Salah netted from close range despite appearing to be offside.

The Egypt star was decisive again just after the restart, singlehandedly taking the game to the Bournemouth defence and finding the net, before a Steve Cook own goal and Salah's third rounded things off in the latter stages, taking him to double figures in the league this term. And victory capped off a day to remember for James Milner, who made his 500th Premier League appearance.

After an even opening, Bournemouth went mightily close to the first goal, as David Brooks was released into the left side of the penalty area and Alisson stopped the shot squeezing inside his near post.

Liverpool then capitalised shortly after in the 25th minute, as Asmir Begovic palmed a Roberto Firmino shot back into the danger zone and Salah – who was fractionally offside – tucked home for a contentious breakthrough.

There was nothing controversial about Salah's second just after the break, however. He broke forward, riding a cynical Cook challenge in the process, then ran at Nathan Ake and shot across Begovic to find the bottom-right corner just inside the area.

Any chance of a Bournemouth fightback was emphatically ended 22 minutes from the end, as Cook flicked an Andy Robertson cross out of the reach of the helpless Begovic.

And Salah completed the scoring with a fine solo effort, outmuscling Cook before then twisting away from Begovic twice and coolly slotting home.

Atletico Madrid 3 Deportivo Alaves 0: Kalinic and Griezmann on target in Costa's absence

    7172174-0-image-a-1_1544283309250.jpg

Nikola Kalinic and Antoine Griezmann ensured Diego Costa's absence was not sorely felt as Atletico Madrid claimed a 3-0 victory over high-flying Deportivo Alaves at the Wanda Metropolitano.Croatia international Kalinic broke his Atletico duck in Wednesday's 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Sant Andreu and his 25th-minute strike was added to late on by Griezmann and Rodrigo to send the hosts joint-top of LaLiga with Barcelona.

With Costa anticipated to be out for two months following foot surgery, goals from Kalinic and Griezmann will be a huge boost for Diego Simeone, though a first-half injury for Lucas Hernandez will provide cause for concern.

Atletico had to weather a difficult second half against their persistent visitors, but Griezmann and Rodrigo struck in the 82nd and 87th minute respectively to seal the win by a flattering scoreline.

Thomas Lemar's introduction spurred Atletico on to their win over Sant Andreu and after he spread the play out to Santiago Arias, the Colombian whipped in a cross that Kalinic diverted home with his stomach.

Ibai Gomez warmed the gloves of Jan Oblak from 20 yards in response and the hosts lost Lucas nine minutes before the break after Jonathan Calleri landed on his leg following an aerial challenge.Jose Gimenez returned after a month out with a hamstring issue to replace Lucas and he hit the post from Lemar's corner three minutes after the restart.

Alaves continued to provide a threat against their stoic hosts but Griezmann put the game to bed when he tucked home from an acute angle after a challenge from Victor Laguardia pushed his initial attempt against the post.

Rodrigo rounded things off for Atletico five minutes later, tapping home from close range after Fernando Pacheco had kept out a powerful effort from Angel Correa.
