Spalletti hints Inter could sell Perisic for the right offer

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti has suggested Ivan Perisic will be allowed to leave for the right offer amid reports of interest from Arsenal.

It was reported by BBC Sport that the Gunners want to loan the Croatia international with an option to buy him at the end of the season for £35 million ($46m). Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Serie A side would be willing to let the winger go for a similar fee. Perisic has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, having been targeted by Manchester United in previous transfer windows. The 29-year-old admitted in December that he came close to joining the Old Trafford side, but was persuaded to stay at San Siro by Spalletti.

The Nerazzurri boss suggested a reasonable offer could tempt them to sell Perisic this time around, but insists Arsenal are yet to put in an offer.

"It is normal that during the market we are talking about a player like Perisic, because he is a strong player that everyone would want in their team," he told reporters when asked about the Croatian's future."However, the talk must become concrete and then supported by the correct figures."

Inter are third in Serie A and pushing for a place in next season's Champions League, and Spalletti says he expects Perisic and Real Madrid target Mauro Icardi to keep giving their all to the cause amid ongoing speculation. He added: "He knows what his job is, so he is expected to continue doing what he knows how to do, even trying to go for more like all the players, as well as Mauro Icardi. Mauro is having a season in line with his value."

Perisic has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, scoring three times. His current contract runs until 2022.

AC Milan 0 Napoli 0: Stalemate hands Juventus title boost

    9028940-0-image-a-111_1548547901751.jpg

Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw by AC Milan at San Siro in a boost to Juventus' Serie A title defence.

The Rossoneri had only beat Napoli once in 15 league games prior to Saturday's encounter but came close to improving that record, with goalkeeper David Ospina making some crucial saves.

Carlo Ancelotti's side had won their previous two top-flight games since losing on this ground to Inter last month, but a relatively flat performance left them unable to worry Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal unduly and they lost Fabian Ruiz to a late red card.

Patrick Cutrone hit the side-netting in a bright opening spell from Milan, although neither side looked prepared to sit back and play for a point in a combative first 45 minutes.

Hakan Calhanoglu tested Ospina, while Piotr Zielinski and Jose Callejon each came close for Napoli without managing to hit the target.Franck Kessie saw a shot deflected narrowly over the crossbar and Callejon clipped the woodwork with a cross, before Zielinski stung the palms of Donnarumma with a fierce volley.

New signing Krzysztof Piatek was introduced with 19 minutes left and almost made a telling impact within moments of entering the pitch, with Ospina bravely diving at his feet to deny him a debut goal.

Ospina, hurt by that collision, produced an even better stop to deny Mateo Musacchio's volley from the ensuing corner, the defender failing to convert after Piatek's header fell to him.

Zielinski shot straight at Donnarumma with a good late chance 12 yards out but, despite some frantic late defending from each side, Ruiz's second yellow card for handball in injury time was the only incident of note.

Bayern target Hudson-Odoi hands in Chelsea transfer request

Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi has handed in a transfer request in hope of facilitating a move to Bayern Munich, Goal can confirm.

Hudson-Odoi has been subject to multiple bids from the Bundesliga champions and is intent on escalating the matter to convince the English side to let him leave.
Bayern are eager to negotiate with Chelsea, and are willing to increase their offer, though they have yet to make that improved counter.

The German club previously tabled an offer of £35 million ($45.3m) and have promised to make the youngster a key part of Niko Kovac's rebuilding effort following the 2018-19 season. Bayern have even gone so far as to offer the No.10 shirt, currently worn by the departing Arjen Robben, to Hudson-Odoi to show his potential role.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri had previous argued Hudson-Odoi would be best served by continuing his development with the Premier League club, which the teenager has been a part of since the age of eight.

Hudson-Odoi has been angling for the move in hopes of securing playing time, which has been difficult to come by at Stamford Bridge. The 18-year-old winger has only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, with his only starts this season coming in cup competitions. He has made two starts and a total of four appearances in the Europa League, while adding a single start in each of the Carabao and FA Cups.

Chelsea had been growing increasingly hopeful they had managed to ward off Bayern's interest with talk of increased playing time along with improved wages of £70,000-a-week in an attempt to commit him to a new deal beyond his current one, which expires in 2020.In addition, the Blues supporters have aimed to help convince him to remain, chanting "Hudson-Odoi, we want you to stay" in the recent victory over Newcastle.

However, despite seeing an uptick in gametime in January, Hudson-Odoi was left on the bench for the Blues second-leg Carabao Cup victory over Tottenham this week.

Instead, concerns over his role look to have him angling to follow in the footsteps of Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, who departed Manchester City and has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's top players this season with six goals and nine assists in the league.Likewise, Reiss Nelson, on loan at Hoffenheim from Arsenal, has scored six times in the Bundesliga this season.

And with five days remaining in the transfer window, it appears Hudson-Odoi is intent on seeing if he can be the latest in a trend of English youngsters making a name for themselves on the continent.

Manchester City 5 Burnley 0: De Bruyne shines in FA Cup triumph

    9019220-6635231-image-a-20_1548519944836.jpg

Manchester City swept Burnley aside to maintain their fight for silverware on four fronts with a 5-0 FA Cup fourth-round triumph.Pep Guardiola described talk of City winning the quadruple as "fantasy", but it remains an attainable achievement for his side at the end of a week in which they reached the EFL Cup final.

Tougher tests will await than that presented by Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with the visitors undone by a first-half strike from the in-form Gabriel Jesus and one apiece after the break from Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, the latter being the pick of the bunch.

City also won October's Premier League fixture here 5-0 and Sean Dyche's side succumbed to the same fate as Kevin Long's own goal and Sergio Aguero's penalty completed the rout.
The most notable action of the first 12 minutes saw Kyle Walker break a corner flag as he attempted to deliver a cross, leading to a delay in the action as a replacement was sourced.

City should have taken the lead in the next attack, De Bruyne's cross skidding underneath the outstretched leg of the onrushing Jesus.Silva was next to come close as his side-footed effort was well kept out by an alert Nick Pope, who first parried then caught a subsequent strike from Danilo.

Having snapped the flagstick, Walker's next target was Steven Defour, the England full-back receiving a yellow card for his mistimed challenge on the Belgian. The breakthrough followed soon after as Jesus cut in from the left side of the area and finished with confidence past Pope for his eighth goal in five matches.

Burnley wasted a glorious opportunity to equalise within three minutes of the restart when Nicolas Otamendi was caught in possession, but Matej Vydra fired wide with only Ederson to beat.

Dyche's men paid the price when Silva's deflected shot doubled City's lead after collecting a pass from De Bruyne, who then lashed in the goal of the match from 25 yards out.

A fine outing from De Bruyne was capped when his cross was turned into his own net by Long, whose mix-up with Pope led to the spot-kick from which Aguero converted.

Borussia Dortmund 5 Hannover 1: Reus stars as leaders cruise

    9021494-0-image-a-45_1548525772760.jpg

Marco Reus starred with a goal and an assist as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Hannover 5-1 on Saturday, moving nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga at least until Sunday.

Lucien Favre's men were in control for much of the match, but it was a ruthless second-half display that did most of the damage, as they scored four times after the break to comprehensively defeat their relegation-threatened visitors.Full-back Achraf Hakimi broke the deadlock with a fine strike, and while Hannover managed to tighten up at the back until half-time, Dortmund were rampant in the second half.

Reus – set up by Hakimi – got a deserved goal after an hour, before Mario Gotze and Raphael Guerreiro added to things, and, although Benjamin Hadzic at least got Hannover on the scoreboard, Axel Witsel rounded things off at the end.
After some earlier Reus chances went begging, the breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute – Hakimi sending a fierce strike into the right side of the net after a clever one-two with Guerreiro.Something of a lull followed, but Dortmund exploded into life again in the second half.

Reus doubled the lead in sumptuous fashion with 60 minutes played, receiving Hakimi's cut back after he had robbed Miiko Albornoz and the Germany star produced a delicate first-time chip with the outside of his foot to beat the stranded Michael Esser.

Gotze then got in on the act, tucking home from a tight angle after a solo run and pass from Jadon Sancho, before Guerreiro netted in similar fashion 23 minutes from time following Reus' pass.

Hadzic deflected a shot in as Hannover pulled one back in fortuitous fashion towards the end, but it had no impact on the result, with Witsel finding the net from the edge of the box in stoppage time to put more pressure on defending champions Bayern Munich ahead of their clash with Stuttgart on Sunday.

Atletico Madrid 2 Getafe 0: Griezmann, Saul seal derby victory

    9022080-0-image-a-13_1548527699162.jpg

Atletico Madrid made it three consecutive wins in LaLiga with a 2-0 defeat of Getafe at the Wanda Metropolitano.

First-half strikes from Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez sealed the points for Diego Simeone's side on Saturday to keep the pressure on league leaders Barcelona, as Getafe ended the match with nine men.

Atleti have never been beaten or even conceded a goal against their neighbours in Simeone's seven years in charge, and another positive result appeared inevitable once Griezmann broke the deadlock with his side's first shot of the match in the 27th minute.

Saul pounced to score a second before the break, which proved enough for Atleti, although a relatively comfortable outing was spoiled by the loss of Diego Godin to a thigh problem.

Only Atleti boast a better defensive record than Getafe in LaLiga this season, and the visitors kept Simeone's side comfortably at bay until shortly before the half hour, when Griezmann collected Thomas Partey's pass and rifled home his 10th league goal of the season from just inside the box.

David Soria saved Atleti's next shot on target, Nikola Kalinic shooting straight at the keeper after a fine move involving Thomas and Lucas Hernandez, but Saul reacted quickest to sweep home the rebound and double the lead.Getafe applied some pressure after the break without managing to trouble Jan Oblak, and Atleti youngster Victor Mollejo, on as a substitute for Kalinic, blasted narrowly over the bar within moments of his introduction.

Oblak made a good save to deny Samu Saiz, while Rodrigo made a mess of a late one-on-one, before Djene Dakonam and Leandro Cabrera were sent off in the dying minutes for earning second yellow cards.

Matic sees Alexis as 'very important' to Man Utd despite struggles for form

Alexis Sanchez is “a very important player” for Manchester United, according to Nemanja Vidic, with the Chilean forward being backed to prove his worth.Having moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January 2018, much was expected of a player who had starred during his time in north London.

The 30-year-old has, however, struggled for form since making a high-profile switch, with a distinct lack of end product seeing questions asked of his value.

Sanchez was back among the goals during a return to the familiar surroundings of Emirates Stadium on Friday though, with his effort helping United to see off Arsenal 3-1 in the FA Cup.

He is expected to build on the positivity generated by a fifth strike for the Red Devils, with Matic telling reporters of a talented team-mate: “Alexis has great character.“He works every training session 100 per cent and I'm happy for him because when you work like that, in the game, you can't play bad so he is doing very well.

“He helps the team. He is a great guy. I'm happy for him because he must understand he is a very important player for us.”Sanchez opened the scoring during a trip to north London, while further efforts were added by Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial as United made their way into round five.

Success in the capital means the Red Devils have stretched their run of victories at the start of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign to eight. The Norwegian has breathed new life into a side which had been faltering badly under Jose Mourinho, with his tactical tinkering delivering rich rewards.

He had used video of past meetings between United and Arsenal to ready his side for a heavyweight cup clash, with some of his own performances from the past highlighting how the Gunners can be undone on the counter.
“He [Solskjaer] was in there!” added Matic.

“I think we prepared for the game really well. We analysed them. I think every person in the staff did a great job. We knew exactly what to expect. We knew what we had to do.“We knew how we could hurt them so we used our chances and I think the preparation was great and this is the result of that.”

In-form United will be back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Burnley in the Premier League.

Alba keeps Man Utd & Juventus interested as he waits on Barcelona contract offer

Jordi Alba admits anything can happen in football amid reported interest from Manchester United and Juventus, but has reiterated his desire to sign a new contract at Barcelona.

The 29-year-old full-back is currently tied to the Liga champions until the summer of 2020.No extension to those terms has been put in place as yet and exit talk has been sparked as a result.

Alba is aware of speculation linking him with leading sides in England and Italy, but is reading little into it at present.

Quizzed on the United and Juve rumours, the Spain international told Sport of his future plans: “You never know in football, but I repeat that my intention is to stay here come what may.“I have never seen myself outside of Barcelona, since I have been at Barca it's my dream [to stay].

“As the years have passed I have kept growing and I notice the affection from the fans even more. I have always seen myself in Barcelona and my dream is to retire here.”

While the lack of a renewal at Camp Nou is keeping the gossip columns ticking over, Alba remains optimistic regarding his chances of reaching an agreement which suits all parties.“Yes, of course,” he added.“It's obvious that my dream is to stay at Barcelona. It's cost too much to get here to then have to leave.“I have my family here, their support, the fans and my teammates. I don't think I'd be happier anywhere else. “Since I have been here, I have felt valued.

“The club always make an effort with the players they want to keep and those they want to bring in. I don't have any complaints at the moment.”Having spent time in the famed La Masia academy system in his younger years, Alba returned to his roots from Valencia in 2012.He is closing on 300 appearances for Barca and has tasted La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and Club World Cup success during his time in Catalunya.

'Next time against Liverpool? We'll win!' - Lingard makes bold Man Utd prediction

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard has boldly declared “we’ll win” the next time the Red Devils face Liverpool.A defeat at Anfield back in December proved to be a turning point in the season for those at Old Trafford.

United left Merseyside having suffered a humbling 3-1 defeat, with that setback spelling the end for Jose Mourinho as he was relieved of his managerial duties shortly afterwards.

The Red Devils were stuck in a serious rut under the Portuguese, but have burst back into life under Ole Gunner Solskjaer.A 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round made it eight successive victories under their new boss, with confidence and belief flooding back into the team.

Lingard, who was on target at Emirates Stadium, believes United are now capable of beating anybody, including the current Premier League leaders on February 24.
He told Soccer AM: “Our way of playing has changed.“Next time against Liverpool? We'll win.”

United are feeling buoyant as Solskjaer has released them from the shackles which had been holding them back under Mourinho.

Lingard added: “Ole has been great since he came in. He has given a lot of advice, and he has let us play free, which is the main thing.“Football you have to play with freedom, you have to play with that smile on your face, and he has let us do that.”Solskjaer is also being credited with having returned the “United way” to Old Trafford.

“Attacking football and playing the ball forward as soon as you can and scoring as many goals as you can [is the "United way"],” said England international Lingard.“If they score one, he knows we will score two and he has already had that mindset.

“He was just saying, 'this is Man Utd and this is how we should be.' We wear suits for away games now to look the part. He wanted to bring back the 'United way'.“I feel like we are always confident going into matches, even if they score, we know we are going to score two or three more.

“And our mindset has definitely changed going into big games.”

Juventus return for Pogba considered 'very difficult' as World Cup winner shines for Man Utd

Massimiliano Allegri concedes it is "very difficult" to see Paul Pogba playing for Juventus again having appeared to settle at Manchester United since Jose Mourinho's departure.

Pogba joined Juventus from United as a youngster in 2012 and enjoyed four successful years in Turin, winning a quartet of Serie A titles. His form at Juve persuaded United to bring him back to Old Trafford in a then-world record deal of £89 million ($117m) in 2016.

Critics have suggested Pogba has been erratic since returning to United, while his relationship with Mourinho was a regular source of controversy, often giving way to speculation about further transfers to the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juve.

But Pogba has hit new heights at United and maintained that form since Mourinho's dismissal last month, leaving Allegri to accept there is little chance of him heading back to the Old Lady."It's very difficult to see him at Juventus again," Allegri said at a news conference on Saturday.

Pogba’s brother, Florentin, has suggested that a move to Spain would be made by the 25-year-old if he was to leave Old Trafford. He told AS: “When my brother leaves Manchester United, there are only three clubs he can go to improve: [Manchester] City, Real Madrid or Barca.“He's not going to go to City, so he'll come to Spain: to Barca or Madrid.”

Allegri has also been asked about a potential loan departure for prospect Moise Kean, but the Juve coach wants to keep the striker where he can keep an eye on him.

"He must remain at Juventus and learn everything," Allegri said. "He's lucky enough to be at a club like Juventus."He could play a few more minutes anywhere else, but he would lose his path of growth."

Inter yet to receive offer for Perisic – Marotta

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta revealed the Serie A club are yet to receive an offer for Ivan Perisic.Perisic has asked to leave Inter, with Premier League outfit Arsenal linked with a move for the Croatia international. However, Marotta said Inter were yet to get an actual offer for the 29-year-old.

“It is difficult to keep players that don’t want to stay but no offer has arrived yet so therefore the prerequisite for a transfer simply isn’t there," he told Sky Sports.

"This also happens at other teams, I am a supporter of a restrictive transfer window, but with the fact that it closes on the 31st [ of January] a lot of players wish to leave their clubs.”Perisic has been at Inter since 2015 and was previously linked with a switch to Manchester United.

The Croatian international, a key member of the World Cup runners-up this past summer and a goalscorer in the finale against France, has started 14 of Inter's 20 Serie A games this season.

While unwilling to confirm Arsenal were chasing Perisic, head coach Unai Emery said a winger was a target.Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League and host Cardiff City on Tuesday.Inter, meanwhile, sit face Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Thursday before hosting Bologna on Sunday in Serie A.

Arsenal will spend in the summer but cannot not buy players now - Emery

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed once more that he is unlikely to buy players in January but says in the summer he will be able to spend.

The Gunners boss previously stated the club would be limited to loans in the winter window having spent heavily last January as well as this past summer. The club’s situation has grown more desperate since, with full-back Hector Bellerin lost for the season with a knee injury.

Reports have linked Arsenal with a move for Inter’s Ivan Perisic, though that move is rumoured to be a loan with a purchase option in the summer.Loans for Barcelona midfielders Denis Suarez and Malcom have also been reported, along with Paris Saint-Germain’s Christopher Nkunku, though none of those rumoured moves have materialised yet.

And Emery, despite the loss of Bellerin, has admitted he has been told he is not in a position to buy players this window, but has been assured the situation will be different in the summer.“The club are telling me that this moment is not good to buy players," Emery told reporters. “But the club say to me in the summer it is going to be different and we are going to have chances to spend money.”

With the close of the January window fast approaching and Arsenal’s prospects of adding players cloudy, Emery has insisted he is pleased with his squad.Furthermore, he emphasised that it is his job to improve his squad as they challenge for honours in the Premier League and in Europe.

“The easiest thing for me is to ask for more players but I love to work with my players,” he said. “My challenge is to improve the players.“I'm happy with the players, we have enough to achieve big performances in the Premier League and Europa League. In the Premier League we are pushing to be in the top four.”

Arsenal are in action Tuesday against Cardiff before travelling to the Etihad on Sunday to face Manchester City.

Chelsea deny Bayern target Hudson-Odoi transfer request

Chelsea have denied Callum Hudson-Odoi's transfer request, blocking the teenager's hope of a January exit to join Bayern Munich, Goal can confirm.

Hudson-Odoi hoped to escalate matters at the end of last week in pursuit of a move to the Bundesliga champions, personally delivering his request for a winter move. However, he will now have to wait until at least the summer to receive his exit, with Bayern likely to come back for Hudson-Odoi at the end of the season.

The last official offer from the Bundesliga giants was a deal for £35 million ($46m), though after Hudson-Odoi's transfer request the Bavarians were willing to negotiate further.

A move to Bayern is still likely to be Hudson-Odoi's preferred destination next season, but rejecting a sale now provides the Blues with an opportunity to further work to convince the 18-year-old his future is best served by remaining at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi's current contract runs out in the summer of 2020 and the winger has thus far rejected all offers by Chelsea to renew it, despite promises of improved playing time and wages of at least £70,000-a-week.

The youngster has seen an uptick in playing time in January, and though he remains without a Premier League start this season, he did receive a place in Maurizio Sarri's XI for the club's FA Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Hudson-Odoi played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 victory over the Championship side, netting his second goal of the season in all competitions with a 64th minute strike which put his side up 2-0 at the time.

His performances and talent have his team-mates hoping he commits long term, with Antonio Rudiger telling reporters Chelsea had to make sure Hudson-Odoi stayed.

The man himself has refused to be drawn into comment over his transfer situation, with Hudson-Odoi telling the BBC after his performance against Sheffield Wednesday: "I don't know. I can't say.

“I just keep working hard and you never know what happens. I can't say [if I spoke to Bayern].”Hudson-Odoi is looking to continue in the footsteps of other English youth players who have ventured to Germany had found success.

Jadon Sancho, who has delivered six goals and nine assists in the Bundesliga this season with Borussia Dortmund, tops the list, but is not alone as Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson, who is on loan at Hoffenheim, has scored six times this season in the German top-flight.
