'Man United need world-class players' - Nani calls for changes at Old Trafford

Manchester United need to sign more world-class players if they want to compete in the Premier League and Europe, according to Nani.United are facing a big off-season after failing to qualify for the Champions League, having finished sixth and 32 points adrift of winners Manchester City in 2018-19.

Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia have already confirmed their Old Trafford departures, while the futures of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, David de Gea and Juan Mata are uncertain.

United have been linked with Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, Benfica sensation Joao Felix, Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale and Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tries to rebuild his squad.

Nani was part of the last United team to win the Premier League in 2012-13 and the Portuguese star has been left saddened by the club's struggles.

"United need more world-class players. Change something, attitude on the pitch," Nani – who plays for Orlando City in MLS – told Omnisport."I remember from my time with [former manager] Alex Ferguson, a lot of games we weren't playing our best, we weren't playing beautiful football but in 15 minutes we played with our hearts and to score goals.

"We run, fight for each ball. That's the way we get all the results. They must have more desire to win every battle on the pitch, every ball, every challenge because just like that they're going to improve."

Nani, who won four Premier League titles and the Champions League among other trophies before leaving United permanently in 2015, added: "It's hard to do well when the past is still there. All the big names and important people who made the club achieve so many trophies, they left.

"Now, most of them are still around but not doing what they were doing in the past like coaching or playing. Now, they need to build a new strong team, a new strong mentality. This takes time. This has been the problem at Manchester United at the moment."

The 32-year-old continued: "I keep track. It makes me sad for the club, the players. It's not the moment of United. Maybe for next season, they can do much better.

"As a team, they are not a strong team. They must know that. Obviously, it's still a young team too and maybe the club need to sign some top, experienced players to keep United among the best clubs in the world, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool."Because at the moment, we can't compete with them because they are stronger. But in one season, everything can change."

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December and the club favourite's interim appointment sparked a rejuvenation as United stunned PSG to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, United only won two of their last 12 matches in all competitions – the Red Devils ending the Premier League without a victory in five games – as Solskjaer signed a permanent three-year deal.

"He's been there in the past," Nani said when asked if Solskjaer can lead United back to glory. "Obviously he has a different role now but he knows the mentality and how the club achieved what they have.

"But he has some good stuff to show the players, to change the mentality, to take them on the right way to fight for all the competitions. And try to be as quick as possible, the old United."

Griezmann coy on club future amid Barcelona links

Antoine Griezmann refused to be drawn on his club future after helping France to a friendly win over Bolivia on Sunday.

Griezmann announced last month he would be leaving Atletico Madrid after five seasons at the LaLiga club, with reports linking the forward with a move to Barcelona or Premier League giants Manchester United. After scoring one and setting up another in a 2-0 victory against Bolivia in Nantes, Griezmann was giving nothing away about his future.

"I don't know, that's a good question," he told reporters."Let's see. Everything in its time."Griezmann set up Thomas Lemar for France's opener before scoring just prior to half-time in the win over Bolivia as the World Cup champions prepared for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra this month.

The 28-year-old, who moved into outright eighth for most France goals with his 29th, said it was always an honour to represent his nation."It is always something wonderful to play for the French national team. We enjoy it because it is not every player who can live that," Griezmann said."We are here to represent France and French football. We are proud to play in France also."

France face Turkey in Konya on Saturday, with the defending World Cup champions facing a minor injury worry after Kylian Mbappe was forced from the match at half-time. However, France boss Didier Deschamps allayed fears over Mbappe ahead of Saturday's Euro 2020 showdown against Turkey.

"It's nothing serious," Deschamps told reporters post-match. "It's just ankle foot pain after a touch. There was no risk to take. He should go [for the next match]."

France have won both of their Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures and are level on points with Turkey ahead of the upcoming Group H fixture.

'Next year we go for the Premier League & Champions League double!' - Mane buzzing after Liverpool win

Sadio Mane has called on Liverpool to win the Premier League and Champions League in 2019-20 following the club's European victory against Tottenham on Saturday.Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on becoming English champions by just one point this year, despite amassing an impressive 97 points over the course of the season.

But they made amends for last year's disappointment in Kiev when they finished runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League, beating Spurs 2-0 to bring the trophy back to Liverpool for the sixth time.

"I think it’s the start of something special, like everybody mentioned, because last year we were close and this season we won it," Mane said after the memorable night in Madrid.

"So, next year [we go] for the league and Champions League. We know it will not be easy but we are Liverpool, we are strong, we will do everything and we still have a young team. We will keep learning and working hard to get more trophies."

Asked if the win felt extra rewarding after last year's final defeat, Mane said: "I think so. I think last year was not easy. It was really, really hard but that's football.
"That makes people love football. We have learned a lot this year, so we're just really happy.

"The lessons we learned came in many ways, in many things. We've got more experience and at the same time we're used to playing this type of game. It made it easier today."Liverpool's players and staff showed plenty of emotion after the final whistle.

Jordan Henderson was seen crying and hugging his dad, who revealed the Reds' captain had promised him as a 10-year-old he would play in a Champions League final."To be honest I think the dream became true," Mane continued. "I don't even know how happy I am, I could not believe until now.

‘Pogba should be Man Utd talisman, not scapegoat’ – Bosnich wants Solskjaer to build around Frenchman

Manchester United should be looking to build around Paul Pogba, says Mark Bosnich, with the criticism aimed at the midfielder “unfair” as he has the potential to be a talismanic presence.

The France international has appeared capable of taking up such a standing at times.Struggles for consistency have, however, blighted his second spell at Old Trafford.

Questions have been asked of him ever since completing an £89 million ($113m) return to England in the summer of 2016.Bosnich is disappointed to see the World Cup winner becoming a scapegoat, with there being every reason to believe that Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and David de Gea can play leading roles in an exciting future if they can be kept happy and given prominent roles in which to flourish.

The former United goalkeeper told RT of Pogba’s critics: “I think a lot of that has been thrown at him and a lot of that has been unfair.“People have their own style and the way they go about things and people need to realise he is a world-class player.

“It’s synonymous of the team right now how things are actually going. Because they’re not going the best and Manchester United aren’t really where they should be. People have got to keep that in the back of their mind.“As I always say, the best players in the team always get the plaudits when things are going well, and when they’re not, they get the biggest criticism as well.”

Bosnich added on a mercurial talent, and those around him: “I don’t think we’ve seen the best of [Pogba] yet.

“For a long time you would have to say under Mourinho he wasn’t used in a role that you could say suited him. And I understand he’s very, very divisive but for me both him and Lukaku, again coming back to the attitude thing, and when I say attitude - just be up front.

“The club needs to go and say ‘Do you want to be here, seriously do you want to be here, yes or no?’. If both of those players want to be there then those two, along with De Gea, should be the people they’re looking to build a team around.

“I know he’s had his detractors and you know sometimes it comes across a little bit of a different way because he does sometimes have a blasé attitude towards things and I think a lot of people, especially people from Manchester, sometimes see that a little bit of a different way. But he is a top, top player.

Bayern Munich chief confirms James Rodriguez has asked to leave

James Rodriguez will not be returning to Bayern Munich on a permanent deal after asking the Bundesliga champions not to exercise their option to purchase him.

Having spent the last two seasons on loan in Bavaria, Bayern could have triggered a deal to sign him permanently for €42 million (£37m/$47m).But the Colombia international has told the club he does not intend to stay, leaving his immediate future now up in the air.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told SportBild and Sport1: "He was with me and told me in a personal conversation that he is asking the club not to trigger the option.”

Rodriguez scored 15 goals from midfield in two seasons at Bayern, and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season and Champions League Squad of the Season in his first campaign.

However, more recently he has struggled to replicate the form that saw him rise to superstardom at the 2014 World Cup and earn his dream move to Real Madrid.

There had been some suggestion that Bayern could exercise their option to buy Rodriguez before selling him on at a higher price, but Rummenigge would not consider such an idea.

“That would not be fair to Real Madrid and not the style of Bayern, we do not engage in trafficking here,” he said, adding that he will personally regret Rodriguez’s departure.

What the future holds for Rodriguez now is unclear. Turning 28 this summer, he is no longer world football’s golden boy and it seems unlikely that he will remain at Real Madrid.Rumours have suggested that he could be used in a swap deal as Madrid look to offset some of the costs of their planned summer revamp.

That could mean a move to the Premier League – Madrid are thought to be interested in a move for Paul Pogba, though more concrete interest from Juventus could make such a deal unlikely.

For now, Rodriguez will turn his attention to the Copa America in Brazil, with Colombia getting their tournament underway with a mouthwatering clash against Argentina on July 15.Despite shining for his country with 22 goals in 69 caps, he has never reached a major international final.

To date, his best showing has been the third-place finish Colombia achieved at the 2016 edition of the Copa America, where they were beaten by eventual winners Chile.

Lopetegui returns to management at Sevilla after Real Madrid flop

Julen Lopetegui is back in management at Sevilla, with the former Real Madrid boss penning a three-year deal with the Liga outfit. The 52-year-old has been out of work since October 2018 when an ill-fated spell at the Santiago Bernabeu came to a close.

Lopetegui had only been appointed by the Blancos in controversial circumstances over the summer leading into the 2018-19 campaign.

A deal was struck while he was still in charge of the Spain national side, with his contract there torn up ahead of the World Cup finals in Russia.

He was charged with the task of succeeding Zinedine Zidane in Madrid, but struggled to make any kind of impact and was relieved of his duties on the back of a 5-1 Clasico defeat to Barcelona.A painful period of reflection has been taken in since leaving the Bernabeu, but Lopetegui has now returned to coaching.

He has only previously filled three senior club positions and two of those have been short-lived stints in La Liga. Some 15 years prior to taking the reins at Real, Lopetegui spent 10 games in charge of Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish second tier.

He then went on to spend time with Madrid’s B side and various youth teams within the Spain set-up before taking charge of Porto in 2014.Two years were spent in Portugal before accepting a call from La Roja to succeed Vicente del Bosque.

An unbeaten record through qualification saw him guide Spain to the 2018 World Cup, but he never got the chance to take in an outing at a major international tournament.

A former goalkeeper from his playing days, Lopetegui will be hoping to right the wrongs of his recent struggles when taking to the dugout with Sevilla. He inherits a side that finished sixth in the 2018-19 campaign.

Joaquin Caparros saw things through to the end of the season at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on a caretaker basis. He had filled in following the dismissal of Pablo Machin after just 10 months at the helm.

Lopetegui will have Europa League competition to take in next term, but will be expected to push Sevilla back into La Liga’s top four and secure Champions League qualification.

Jovic makes €70m Real Madrid move on six-year contract

    14350774-7103033-image-a-82_1559648428465.jpg

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the highly-rated striker penning a six-year contract with the Blancos. The 21-year-old Serbia international emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in European football during the 2018-19 campaign.

His return of 27 goals in 47 appearances attracted plenty of attention, with Real one of several sides to cast admiring glances in his direction.

Those at the Santiago Bernabeu have now won the race for the forward's signature, with Jovic tied to a deal through to the summer of 2025.A brief statement from the Liga giants on their official website read: "Real Madrid CF and Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed to the transfer of player Luka Jovic, pending a medical examination. "The player will be tied to the club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2025."

Real were expected to spend big this summer after enduring a testing 2018-19 campaign. It is suggested that they have parted with around €70 million (£62m/$79m) in order to bring in Jovic.

They had to dig deep to get a deal over the line as Eintracht only recently pushed through a permanent deal of their own for the promising frontman.

The Bundesliga outfit took up a purchase option in the loan agreement which saw him star for them across a two-season stay from Benfica. An immediate profit has been made, although those in Germany are disappointed to be bidding farewell to the player who impressed so much during his time in the Bundesliga.

Frankfurt’s sporting director Fredi Bobic has said: "Luka Jovic is a big loss for us.
"His explosiveness and scoring skills have spread throughout Europe and we've benefited not only from his goals over the past two years. "But for us it was clear that there is a financial pain threshold."For Eintracht Frankfurt this is a good and important transfer. We wish Luka only the best for his future.

"He has the best qualifications for a great career. And we are proud that we were able to support him along the way."Jovic will join an attacking pool of talent in the Spanish capital that includes Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz.

He will be hoping to hit the ground running in La Liga, with Zidane’s side in need of inspiration from somewhere as they seek to get back on the trophy trail in 2019-20.

Real Madrid make final push to sign €120m Hazard

Real Madrid are sending a representative to London to meet with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia as Los Blancos commit to a final push to get a transfer deal for Eden Hazard over the line, Goal understands.

Negotiations over the Belgian's future at the Santiago Bernabeu have been going on for months but the Spanish capital side are now keener than ever to wrap up proceedings, as they hope to make an official announcement this week after agreeing upon a fee.

Chelsea's ideal scenario would see Hazard snapped up for €130 million (£115m/$146m), while Madrid hope to pay closer to €100m (£89m/$112m), but there is a firm expectation that a deal will inevitably be done.

Real captain Sergio Ramos gave his blessing over Los Blancos' incoming big move after announcing he is staying at Santiago Bernabeu, amid speculation that he would leave."I consider Eden Hazard to be a really, really top player," the Madrid captain said.

Hazard's friend and international team-mate Thibaut Courtois will be helpful for his compatriot in the early days of the move as he bids to get by without speaking Spanish. Courtois is fluent in Spanish, English and French, which should come in useful in training sessions.

‘Arsenal need to bring in De Rossi’ – Wright wants Roma icon as mentor to Willock

Arsenal have been told they “need to bring in Daniele De Rossi from Roma”, with Ian Wright of the opinion that a World Cup-winning midfielder could be a shrewd addition.A 35-year-old performer who has graced the very top of the game has just become available as a free agent.De Rossi is severing ties with Serie A side Roma after 18 years.

He has reached the end of his contract in the Italian capital and will not be offered fresh terms. There had been a desire on his part to retire as a one-club man, but that is no longer possible.

De Rossi is not planning to hang up his boots and has seen moves to MLS and China mooted.Wright, though, believes that an iconic figure of the modern era could be a useful asset on a short-term deal at Emirates Stadium.

The former Gunners striker said on Twitter: “Arsenal need to bring in De Rossi from Roma.“We’ll get 15 games out of him, it won’t cost hardly any money, and the experience he could pass on to the likes of Willock and the other youngsters could be invaluable and money well spent.”

Joe Willock is considered to be a hot prospect in north London. He is just 19 years of age and a product of Arsenal’s famed academy system.A senior breakthrough has been made, with 17 appearances taken in across the last two seasons. The most recent of those came in the Europa League final, when he was introduced in place of Mesut Ozil.

More outings are expected, with Unai Emery prepared to put his faith in youth.Willock has plenty of potential still to be unlocked and having experienced heads alongside him will help to take his game to the next level.

De Rossi would fit the mould, but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal are willing to explore a possible deal and where the Roma legend sees his career heading at an important crossroads.

Meunier open to PSG exit amid Man Utd & Arsenal rumours

Thomas Meunier will consider becoming a free agent next year if Paris Saint-Germain rebuff the "dozen" clubs that have made contact since January.

Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interested in taking the Belgium international to the Premier League for a cut-price fee in the more immediate future.

PSG will have an important decision to make if offers are submitted, with just 12 months left to run on right-back Meunier's contract.

The Ligue 1 champions are already set to lose Adrien Rabiot for nothing and could run into a similar headache at the end of next season.

"It's something that could suit me," Meunier told Le Parisien when asked about the prospect of leaving next year."I don't think the club would make a lot of money from me, actually. I have a market value, but I'm a defender, I play one game out of three and I'm turning 28."It's not like Adrien, who is worth 50 million euros."

While midfielder Rabiot was frozen out after refusing to sign a new deal, Meunier is more receptive to staying at Parc des Princes. The former Club Brugge player is willing to discuss an extension if PSG choose to end the impasse.

"I told the leaders that I was ready to stay, that I would like it a lot," he said."They didn't tell me, 'We absolutely want to sell you'. They know that at some point they will need me.

"If the club tells me, 'Listen, we want to sell you, we need money, there's financial fair play', and I will not play next year, then we will find a solution to satisfy both sides, of course."As for rumours of a switch to England, Meunier added: "There have been phone calls since January with interested clubs. There are a dozen clubs, all of which are in the top five of their leagues."

Meunier started 27 times for PSG during the 2018-19 season, scoring five goals.

    PSG announce Buffon departure

Gianluigi Buffon will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer when his contract expires, it has been confirmed. The Italian goalkeeper joined the French giants last year on a free transfer from Juventus, signing a one-year contract.

The 41-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions as Thomas Tuchel's team won Ligue 1 but were beaten in the Coupe de France final and knocked out early in the Champions League and Coupe de la Ligue.

And it has now been announced that Buffon's contract will not be extended and he has played his last game for the club."Following joint discussions, Paris Saint-Germain and Gianluigi Buffon have agreed to not renew the legendary goalkeeper's contract which expires on 30 June 2019," a statement on the club's website read.

The 2006 World Cup winner revealed in an Instagram post that PSG had offered him another deal, but he knocked it back."PSG proposed a contract renewal that I did not feel like accepting, driven by the desire to prepare myself for new experiences and new professional challenges," he said.

He also quoted famous American author Ernest Hemingway as he bid farewell to the Paris side and declared an end to his foreign adventure."Thank you all for everything I have had the opportunity to experience in Paris," Buffon said. "Thank you for the emotions that we have shared together.

"Twelve months ago, I arrived at Paris Saint-Germain filled with enthusiasm, welcomed by the incredible warmth of the fans. It was really moving. Thank you, once again, from the bottom of my heart. I leave happy to have enjoyed this experience which has undoubtedly helped me to grow.

"Today my adventure outside Italy comes to an end. I would like to thank the chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the whole club and my teammates. I wish you all the best, convinced that together you will write the pages of a wonderful story.

"Ernest Hemingway wrote that there are only two places in the world where people can live happily: at home and in Paris. Today onwards, this will also apply to me: Paris, in some way, will always remain my home... Allez Paris! Thank you and good luck with everything!”

Arsenal set for coaching restructure with new roles for Ljungberg & Bould

Freddie Ljungberg and Steve Bould will both take on new roles at Arsenal this summer as part of a reshuffle to the club’s coaching staff.Ljungberg only returned to the Emirates Stadium last summer following a spell in Germany as Andries Jonker’s assistant at Wolfsburg.

The Swede took over as Under-23s coach and guided his team to an impressive second-placed finish in Premier League 2, ending the season just four points behind champions Everton.

But Goal understands Ljungberg will now make the step-up to first-team duties where he will work closely alongside Unai Emery and his assistant Juan Carlos Carcedo next season. The switch is part of a wider restructuring at the club aimed at realigning staff with key skills and objectives.

As part of that, Bould - who spent last season as one of Emery's assistants - will also take on a new role at the Emirates Stadium this summer. The club stalwart was one of the few members of Arsene Wenger’s coaching staff who remained at the club following the Frenchman’s departure last summer.

But his involvement with the first-team this season has always seemed somewhat limited, with Carcedo taking the predominant role in training sessions and on a matchday.

There have been suggestions that Bould could end his long association with Arsenal this summer and look to move elsewhere, but Goal has learned that the Gunners do not want to lose the 56-year-old and view him as an essential part of the club’s future.

He will instead take up the role of Under-23s coach vacated by Ljungberg as well as working closely alongside academy manager Per Mertesacker focusing on the development and progression of the club’s youth players.

Before replacing Pat Rice as Wenger’s assistant manager in 2012, Bould enjoyed a hugely successful time in charge of Arsenal’s Under-18s, winning the Premier Academy League on 2009 and 2010.

Bould, who made 372 appearances for the Gunners between 1988 and 1999, also led Arsenal to an FA Youth Cup victory in 2009 and had an excellent record in bringing players through who went on to play a big part in the first-team set-up.
And that will be a key emphasis on his new role within the club’s highly-rated youth set-up.

Eriksen hints he'd be keen on Real Madrid move as he reveals he's ready to quit Tottenham

Christian Eriksen has hinted he would be interested in a move to Real Madrid after revealing he wants to leave Tottenham to "try something new".Eriksen has been linked with a move away from north London for some time after failing to negotiate a new contract with Spurs.

And Real, who have already signed Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic, are expected to make a number of signings this summer and could get Eriksen at a cut price as his current deal expires in 2020.

The Denmark international says he is not aware any concrete talks between Real and Spurs have taken place, but acknowledged it could be time for him to move on,Speaking to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet , Eriksen said: "I feel that I am at a place in my career where I might want to try something new. I have the deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham but I have also said that I would like to try something new.

"I hope there will be clarification during the summer. That's the plan. In football you do not know when clarification will come. It can happen anytime. It would be best for everyone if it happens as soon as possible, but in football things take time.

"It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come in. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can't set a date yourself.

"If I have to go, then hopefully it will be a step up. It's [a potential move to Real Madrid] a step up. But that requires Real Madrid to call Tottenham and say they want me. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know.

"It is hard. It depends on the possibilities. If nothing pops up that is more exciting, why not stay at Tottenham? If I am to sign a new contract it depends on the conditions."Should Eriksen leave Spurs this summer, he would bring a six-year spell at the club to a close having signed from Ajax in 2013.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has done a number of big-money deals with the Liga club in the past, negotiating huge fees for Luka Modric in 2012 and Gareth Bale in 2013.

Juventus consider Mandzukic sale as Sarri again turns to Higuain

Juventus are open to selling striker Mario Mandzukic and Goal understands they will listen to offers this summer for the Croatia international.

Mandzukic only signed a new two-year contract with the Bianconeri in April, but Massimiliano Allegri's departure from the Allianz Stadium dugout is set to see the club's original summer transfer plans altered.

A new central defender remains a priority while further midfield reinforcements will be sought despite already securing a deal to sign Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer from Arsenal.

The Serie A champions are also keen to refresh their forward line, though they would need to sell to do so, and as such Mandzukic is seen as being dispensable.

The former Bayern Munich striker scored 10 goals and laid on seven assists in 33 appearances across all competitions in 2018-19, with a series of injuries meaning he missed a hefty chunk of the second half of the campaign. The 33-year-old was still offered a new deal, but with Maurizio Sarri set to be confirmed as Allegri's successor in the coming days, he is likely to fall further down the pecking order.

Chelsea boss Sarri has a strong relationship with Gonzalo Higuain having coached the Argentina international to a record-equalling season at Napoli in 2015-16, with his 36 Serie A goals earning him a big-money move to Juventus.

It seemed as if his time in Turin was over, however, with Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival forcing Higuain out of the door to AC Milan in a season-long loan deal. The ex-Real Madrid man struggled at San Siro, however, and in January reunited with Sarri at Stamford Bridge in the hope that he would rediscover his best form in front of goal.

That was not to be the case, with the 31-year-old scoring on just five occasions in 18 appearances for the Blues.Sarri's arrival at Juve, though, could offer him a reprieve should the former Empoli coach again turn to a player who played such a huge role in building his reputation at the top of Serie A.

That would likely mean bad news for Mandzukic, whose sale would fund moves for a younger striker to complement Ronaldo and Higuain, with Fiorentina's Federico Chiesa among one of those to have been linked with the Scudetto winners.

Man City and Juventus in talks over €50m Cancelo transfer

Manchester City are in talks with Juventus over a €50 million (£44m/$56m) move for Joao Cancelo, Goal understands.

Sources close to both clubs have confirmed that the framework of a deal is being put in place as City prepare to sell Brazil international Danilo.Juve have already started looking for replacements for Cancelo and have identified Tottenham's Kieran Trippier and Napoli's Elseid Hysaj as possible alternatives.

Danilo himself could also be an option, having come close to moving to Turin from Real Madrid before he eventually chose Manchester in 2017, but as things stand the two clubs are discussing a cash-only deal.

City have been prepared for Danilo's exit for several months and have been scouting the market for replacements. Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also on the Premier League champions' radar, although they would face stiff competition from Manchester United, who are keen to sign the 21-year-old.

Portugal right-back Cancelo is keen on the move but Juve are yet to sanction his sale, as they want in excess of €50m. City believe a transfer fee in that region is reasonable, although a final agreement is not yet in place.

Cancelo, 25, could become City's first signing of the summer, despite a long-held confidence that Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri would join the club for €70m (£62m/$79m).

The Spain international is having second thoughts on the move and has publicly admitted that he has asked Atleti for "space and patience" to decide on his next move.

City have not given up hope of signing the 22-year-old, but have identified an alternative in case he eventually decides not to move to the Etihad Stadium.Marcos Llorente and Tanguy Ndombele have been linked, but Goal understands they are unlikely to be signed.
City are also interested in Leicester City's Harry Maguire, but the Midlands club are holding out for £75m ($95m), plus add-ons. That would make him the most expensive defender in history, and City are reluctant to pay such a fee.The Blues' transfer priorities are a defensive midfielder and a centre-back, with Rodri and Maguire as top targets, with a new right-back and a new forward only coming in should current squad members leave.

Danilo, therefore, looks certain to leave the club, given City and Juve have held several rounds of meetings regarding Cancelo.

Hazard set to complete Real Madrid move as Chelsea accept £88m offer

Chelsea have accepted a bid of €100 million (£88m/$112m) for forward Eden Hazard from Real Madrid, though the total cost could rise to €140m (£124m/$146m) with add-ons.

Goal can confirm the two clubs have come to a compromise on Hazard's price following face-to-face talks between Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia and Real Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sánchez in London on Monday, allowing the 28-year-old to make what he has described as a "dream" move.

Hazard is set for a significant pay-rise upon joining Madrid after turning down multiple contract offers from the west London club, and he could be formally unveiled at Santiago Bernabeu next week after he returns from international duty with Belgium.

The former Lille wideman will also get the opportunity to play under manager Zinedine Zidane, whom he idolised as a player growing up, and he joins fellow summer signings Luka Jovic and Eder Militao in agreeing moves to the Blancos following their underwhelming 2018-19 campaign.

The defending European champions burned through three managers during the course of the season and finished with just the Club World Cup crown after losing out to Barcelona in both La Liga and Copa del Rey and an embarrassing Champions League exit at the hands of Ajax.Hazard, meanwhile, has brought the curtain down on a glorious eight years with Chelsea in which he won six major trophies, including the Europa League this season.

He scored twice in the 4-1 final victory over Arsenal in Baku, taking his final tally to 110 goals in 352 matches for the Blues. He will become their record sale after 12 months of negotiations regarding his future.

Madrid showed their intent to sign Hazard last summer but a deal could not be reached despite the attacker hinting during Belgium's run to the World Cup semi-finals that he would be open to a move.

He instead entered the penultimate year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and with no new deal ever looking likely to be agreed, Chelsea were put in a position in which they needed to sell their superstar before he left on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.

Chelsea rejected Madrid's opening offer for the player in April, but have finally come to an agreement, with Hazard set to reunite with international team-mate Thibaut Courtois, who made the same move last summer. Courtois will likely be forced act as a translator for his compatriot, who will enter a dressing room where few players speak either English or French.

The Blues have already signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in a bid to replace Hazard while fellow winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to bring an end to the debate regarding his future by signing a five-year deal with his boyhood club.

Chelsea, though, have their hands tied when it comes to bringing in any futher reinforcements during the summer transfer window, with their FIFA-imposed transfer ban set to come into play during the off-season.

An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) could see the ban delayed or even overturned, but for now there will be no new faces coming through the door.

James due for Man Utd medical on Thursday ahead of £15m move

Daniel James is due to arrive at Manchester United’s Carrington training complex on Thursday to undergo a medical ahead of his expected £15 million ($19m) transfer from Swansea City, Goal can confirm. The 21-year-old Wales international was originally scheduled to complete his switch to Old Trafford in May but, after the sudden death of his father Kevan at the age of 60, James withdrew from the national training squad to spend time with his family.

And while he gears up to be a part of Wales boss Ryan Giggs’ squad for Saturday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Croatia, James will be in Manchester on Thursday to complete his physical tests ahead of the much-anticipated move.

Leeds United had been an early front-runner to snatch James’ signature before the breakdown of his move to Elland Road piqued the Red Devils’ interest, and the pacey young attacker is set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first addition since becoming United boss in December.

James scored five times in 38 games for Swansea in 2018-19 after breaking into Graham Potter’s first-team squad following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The wide man’s searing pace and desire to take on defenders caught the eye of United scouts and, while he is not considered ready to be a first-choice for the 20-time English champions just yet, his arrival marks a shift in focus by Solskjaer to make United more dynamic and energetic as an attacking force.United legend Giggs said of James after a match-winning performance for Wales against Slovakia in March: “He’s brought his club form onto the international stage and I’m delighted.

“His overall game was fantastic, but to top it with a goal was great and he was just a threat all day. He will be with that pace but he’s got much more as well, he can go either side, he’s intelligent, he works hard and he’s a great lad as well.

“When you’ve got that raw pace you’re a threat at any level. As a winger you then have to develop the other parts of your game which will help you. He’s played up front as well, which will help him because that gives you an appreciation of exactly what to do.”

James has spent the last five years with Swansea having transferred as a youth product from Hull City at the age of 16.

Clubs are reportedly ready to trigger Joao Felix's €120 million (£106m/$134m) release clause with the teenager's rapid rise continuing on Wednesday as he made his international debut during Portugal's 3-1 win over Switzerland in the Nations League semi-finals.

Speaking after the game, the in-demand teenager said a decision on his club future was around the corner.

"Now I'm focused on the national team," Joao Felix told reporters."After finishing the Nations League, I'm going to resolve my life."The forward scored 20 goals in all competitions for his club this season, quickly leading to comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Benfica star is an avid admirer of the Juventus forward, who scored a sensational hat-trick to guide Portugal past Switzerland. "He is an idol, a world icon, an example for everyone," Joao Felix told Tuttosport. "The mere fact of being next to him, of being able to train with a monster like him, would allow me to grow further."He always wants to improve. He is an inspiration for me."

After initially being part of Porto's youth set-up, Joao Felix joined Benfica's ranks in 2015 and made his senior debut in August 2018.A week later he became the youngest player to score in the Lisbon derby as his performances helped Benfica to the Primeira Liga title.

The teenager also shone in the Europa League scoring a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in April and sealing his place in UEFA's official squad of the competition. And Benfica have vowed to make all clubs meet his full price to pull him away.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Swansea City attacker Daniel James in a deal worth £15 million ($19m).It is understood the 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Old Trafford giants and has become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first addition since his arrival as manager in December 2018.

The pacey winger lit up the Championship in 2018-19, scoring five goals and assisting 10 more in 38 appearances in all competitions.

James also made a huge impact in this year's FA Cup, scoring a memorable individual goal against Brentford in the fifth round, before putting in a stellar display as Swansea succumbed to a narrow defeat against Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

As a result of his excellent form, he was also handed his first two caps for Wales by United great Ryan Giggs, scoring in his second appearance against Slovakia in March.

United have released an official statement confirming James's arrival via their club websiteon Friday, which reads: "Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed, in principle, terms with both Swansea City and Daniel James for his transfer to the club

"Daniel has successfully completed a medical at the Aon Training Complex. Further details will be communicated once the international transfer window opens next week."

A native of Beverley in Yorkshire, James came through the youth system of nearby Hull City before being snapped up by Swansea for a nominal compensation fee of £72,000 in 2014.

He came close to joining Leeds United during the January transfer window, and despite conducting interviews with the in-house television channel at Elland Road, a deal could not be closed before the deadline.

He will now join up with Solskjaer and the United squad for the first time on July 1 when the players report for pre-season training ahead of their summer tour to Australia and Asia.
