For Linux People (Should See)

Hay I have a machine with below configuration. I need a good distribution to install in it to work smoothly while achieving the maximum performance. I was using DSL (Damn Small Linux) but didn't give me good performance as I expected. It took 30 seconds to start firefox. I need something much better to install to this PC. NOT TO MENTION: Windows XP works better. But I need a linux distribution to experience the system like Ubuntu.
