Dude, I do not know, what kind of drugs you took but my post is all about our SL students, who plan to go to Australia.

The right to work, is for visa holders, PRs and citizens. Now visa holders does not mean student visa holders!

An EK member, asked me for advise with regard to studying and working in the US, the answer I beleive would be useful for many of you, although it's about Aus.


My opinion

With the global financial crisis, almost every developed country severely cut down their immigration intake.

Now down here in Australia, until 2010, anybody could get Permanent Residency by completing just 2 years of studies, which is absolutely not the case anymore. So lots and lots of international students, got stranded, who sold/ mortgaged everything back home, to study here with the sole aim of obtaining PR. But the option of finding a job and getting sponsored for PR is still there, but it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, as 99.9% of the Australian employers on www.seek.com.au mention in the job ad itself that they only need people with Aussie citizenship.


So if you are planning to go abroad for studies, remember two things, crystal clearly,

1) times have changed and now it is extremely difficult to obtain PR and settle down, in these traditionally immigrant welcoming countries.

2) the same degree can be completed at 1/5th of the cost from ACBT, ANC etc., from Sri Lanka itself.

So be wise, or else, you too would end up having to come back to SL, with just a degree, obtained at an exorbitant prize. With the present entry level SL salaries for degree holders, you may never be able to recover that cost, from working in SL.
