    Hi guys.

As some of you may know foreign spouses in sri lanka treated way worst than any country in the world. There are no permanant residency scheme for foreign spouses as well as they can't do jobs In sri lanka or even have bank accounts . Basically foreign spouses are domestic prisoners . If they renewed VISA it's only for 2 years and everytime you renew it, it require husbands concent .as my wife is a foreign spouse we face so many problems . I heard recently they change immigration act . But seems its never pass the ministries approval . Any information regarding this of if you are a spouse of foreign partner, please share any information you have with rights

Yes.. there are woes and grievances for foreign spouses, in the sense that it's very difficult to get SL citizenship. They have to extend the visa every couple of years. At least that should be extended to 5 years and consider citizenship for persons who stayed for a long period.
But the offspring are able to get the SL citizenship, if the Father holds SL citizenship when the child is born. Citizenship is inherited from the father! Thank Sir DS for doing this.

Exactly. But even if you have kids in SL , Mother has to get concent from kid to live here. And if husband passed away or disabled at young age, Mother has no option but to take the child and fly to her own country because there is no way of living here without a job. The funny thing is , if you want to do a job , you have to go out from country and come back as a worker with shit load of documents then pay 20000 to 40000 a year.

    thanks machan

Is there no way to apply for PR ? I heard somewhere, they can get PR and it valid till they married to sri lankan citizen.

Can you please provide me a reference machan . Thanks

Bro... the key word here is "foreign" ... whether spouse or not, infront of the common law, your wife is viewed as a Foreigner.

It's not just for the spouses, but all "foreigners" are treated the same way under the law in Sri Lanka.

The simplest work around this is to get dual citizenship.

However, nothing is stopping her from being employed if you give a letter of consent and an affidavit to withold EPF and ETF contributions from the company on behalf of her.
