Pork is one of the cheapest food in the third world... Visit China, Vietnam , Cambodia etc.... behind toilets a pig farm. In China, pork, bacon even in a Five Star hotel is quite substandard. That's the truth. I generally avoid as I am not sure how it's cooked. Pork needs proper cooking. If it's not cooked properly at high temperatures you could end up with problems.
Also pigs have an inherent problem. Their digestive system works quite fast within about four hours. So all the toxins and antibiotics tend to stay. There can be drug resistant bacteria, certain types of worms and even swine flu viruses if not cooked at the proper temperatures.
I eat pork only if prepared by people known to me and avoid it away from home. I am not saying that you shouldn't eat pork, but take care.
