The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) of Sri Lanka newly formed by the dissidents of Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) say its party members are being harassed by the police.

The party has complained about the harassment of its members to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and the Inspector General of Police.

FSP Spokesperson Pubudu Jagoda says that policemen have visited the residences of some party members and questioned about politburo member Premakumar Gunaratnam who went missing last week and later returned and sent to Australia.

Another politburo member, Dimuthu Attygalle, who also went missing on the 6th, returned soon after Gunaratnam was sent to Australia.

Jagoda has observed that these party members who have been interrogated by the police are from the Gampaha District.

He has noted that the cause for suspicion is the fact that these policemen have claimed to be from the Kiribathgoda Police, but had later found that the persons who had visited the party members were not from the respective police station.

According to Jagoda, the IGP has been informed about the incident in writing.
