Airports in Britain, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates are refusing to provide refueling services to Iran's airlines, according to a report Monday in the Iranian news agency, ISNA.

According to the report, the decision to halt cooperation with the Iranian airlines was made last week and is one of the consequences of the international sanctions.

"Ever since last week, airports in these countries are not supplying fuel to Iranian airplanes," said Mehdi Aliyari, secretary of the Iranian Airlines Guild.

According to Aliyari, this situation is compelling Iranian airplanes to make stopovers in other countries, which doubles flight costs. "As of now, the airlines that have encountered this problem are Mahan Air and IranAir, which fly a lot to Europe."

Over the weekend, US President Barack Obama signed a bill intended to enforce the recent round of sanctions drafted by the US Congress over Iran's refusal to suspend their nuclear program. The law forbids the export of gas and petroleum products to Iran and prohibits American banks from doing business with foreign banks that provide services for the Revolutionary Guards.

Last week, the UAE confirmed reports that Iran is using Dubai's sea ports in order to smuggle equipment used in its nuclear program, becoming the first Arab country to officially recognize a main smuggling channel. Dubai made its notification to the International Atomic Energy Agency a month after British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that an Iranian company acquired German-made control systems via a Dubai trading company.

A number of companies have recently announced that they would break ties with Iran in light of the new round of sanctions. The most significant of these firms is the French oil giant Total SA, which stopped exporting to Iran.

Germany recently intercepted and confiscated a Russian delivery destined for the nuclear reactor in Bushehr, a move that angered Moscow.

UPDATE:

An Iranian official threatened retaliation on Monday after Germany, Britain and the United Arab Emirates refus to provide fuel to Iranian passenger planes following unilateral U.S. sanctions on the Islamic state, the ISNA news agency reported.

A lawmaker said Iran will retaliate. "Iran will do the same to ships and planes of those countries that cause problems for us," ISNA quoted Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh as saying.

UAE airports supplying fuel to Iranian flights

Abu Dhabi: Airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai continue to refuel Iranian passenger flights, airport officials told Gulf News on Monday, hours after Iranian officials claimed Germany, Britain and the UAE have stopped refueling Iranian passenger planes due to US sanctions imposed over its nuclear programme.
A senior official from Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), which runs the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain airports, told Gulf News: “As of now, we do allow Iranian passengers to re-fuel and use all other services through the ADAC. We have passenger contacts to Iran that come on scheduled flights.
The decision would come from the General Civil Aviation Authority, and they would be the authority that would issue such a ban, but they haven’t informed us of anything yet, so until now we operate normally.”
Dubai Airports also confirmed in a statement sent to Gulf News that Iranian airlines operating in and out of Dubai International Airport continue to be refuelled.
Earlier, Mehdi Aliyari, Secretary of the Iranian Airlines Union, told Iran’s ISNA news agency: "Since last week, our planes have been refused fuel at airports in Britain, Germany and the UAE because of the sanctions imposed by America.” Aliyar said Iran Air, the national carrier, and Mahan Airlines had run into refuelling problems so far.
US President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law far-reaching sanctions on Iran that aim to squeeze the Islamic Republic’s fuel imports and deepen its international isolation. The unilateral US action and other measures planned by the European Union go well beyond a fourth round of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran approved on June 9.
