    Ubisoft plans Assassin's Creed film

Ubisoft is lining up film tie-ins of three of its biggest franchises: Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.

According to a Variety interview with senior figures at the French publisher's new film and TV production arm, the projects have all attracted significant interest from Hollywood talent, with scripts hoped for by the end of the year.

"We want to keep ownership, retain control over the film content, and we're open to work with studios on the development of our projects, and eventually collaborate on the pre-casting, pre-budget and script," explained Ubisoft Motion Pictures chief Jean-Julien Baronnet.

"Our strategy is not to diversify but to bolster the appeal of our franchises - that's why we want to make sure our films will reflect the brands accurately and consolidate our fan base while expanding beyond the games' primary target audience," added senior marketing VP Jean de Rivieres.

No specifics were offered on which title will go into production first or when a finished product might arrive in cinemas.

As well as the three film projects, a TV cartoon series based on the Rabbids franchise is apparently also in the works.
