Marawila rape case: One suspect arrested
The leader of the three-man gang wanted in connection with the rape of an elderly German lady and of robbing her jewellery was arrested last night, police said.
Police spokesman Ranjith Gunasekara said the suspect was in a hideout at Kurusapalliya in Marawila.
The police also found a part of the jewellery that was in the hideout and are on the lookout for the other two men.
Three men who forcibly entered the room occupied by the 80-year-old tourist had allegedly raped her and robbed her jewelry worth three million rupees.
Her son who owns a tourist resort in the area promised a reward of one million rupees to anybody who could provide information leading to the arrest of the miscreants.
