My guess is that, since actual flights (Airplanes) support WIFI, so they are unable to track if it's an actual flight mode or not. I suppose that's why this solution works when we enable "flight mode."

yeah that's the interesting bit machan. seems like a phone is able to geolocate based on gps alone (with less accuracy) instead of requiring moblile data or wifi based on what I've read online
so not sure why such a restriction is being enforced on such arbitrary and opaque conditions
but there's absolutely no reason for a phone to have such restrictions in place
seems like another instance of phone manufacturer overextending their reach into consumers personal matters
