Sri Lanka's Employee's Provident Fund, a state-managed pension fund of private citizens, bought into a shipbuilding firm based at Colombo port, the firm said in a stock exchange filing.

Colombo Dockyard said the Employee's Provident Fund bought 6.8 million shares for 230 rupees each in a deal worth 1,916 million rupees.

The stock was sold by Horizon Representation of Companies LLC in UAE. The tranche is about 10 percent of the firm.

The EPF has been active in buying stock, giving liquidity to the market.
