Sri Lankan government is giving Farmers subsidy Fertilizer which goes into tummy and does not produce capital goods. If the government gives interest free loans to purchase tractor for collective farming. It would continue to produce benefit until the end of life of tractor. The kerosine subsidy is no point only people in city use kerosine and it is unhealthy when used for cooking. The money goes to waste.
Instead Government should subsidize a single solar panel and electric cooker with interest free loans. This would not only reduce dependance of oil and give Forex a boost. Even though Diesel is subsidized Rs. 5 does not make a big difference, we do not need subsidy for diesel, bus ticket and transport price increases no matter what. What is the point of this subsidy.
The fisher man only needs subsidy for Diesel. The government should try to put hybrid boats which works on solar, battery and Diesel.
The electricity pricing should take into account of average cost of producing electricity. No one should be getting subsidy. If the government want to subsidies to poor family it should pay subsidy through divinagamuwa. If government stops subsidies only then industries, religious places, retail, will use solar power which will save a lot for this country. Average house hold pays 2.5 to 3 times the cost of production. Which is not right.
