Oho...according to science plants are also living, according to your classification plants are living.
Buddhism does not classify all living things according to the APPEARANCE. Just because something grows, breathes etc it will not be a creature. Plants do not have a mind or wigngnana. Only animals do.
Plants do have a sensory system, when you make a damage the damaged cells make chemical signals so that oher cells can detect it so the damaged area will be sealed in order to prevent potential pathogen attacks.But they dont have a nervous system, only chemical detection system.
Yet it is a living system but it doesnt have a wigngnana..this is the fact why plants differ from animals.
If you dont know in order to honer the jainic beliefs that even plants have life, Buddha imposed a rule for his monks, thy should not harm plants. But it is not in the sense of similarizing plants with animals.
On the other hand, no other religion than Buddhism has explained the importance of plants for the eco system.
