THE STORY OF DIWALI

This Diwali which leads us into Truth and Light is celebrated on a nation-wide scale on Naraka chathurthasi day just on the dawn of Ammavaasa during the Hindu month of Aippasi Month in Tamil Language(Aaso/Aasvayuja/Asvina Months in Hindi langauge)(September/October) every year. It symbolises that age-old culture of our country which teaches us to vanquish ignorance that subdues humanity and to drive away darkness that engulfs the light of knowledge. Diwali, the festival of lights even to-day in this modern world projects the rich and glorious past of our country and teaches us to uphold the true values of life.

Deepavali festival a unifying force – Mahinda Rajapakse

Deepavali is a fitting occasion to redouble efforts for peace and harmony in the country, says President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his Deepavali Message to all Sri Lankan Hindus.

He pointed out, “The Deepavali Festival, being a unifying force that spreads understanding, tolerance and harmony among all peoples irrespective of ethnic, religious, caste or class differences is a fitting occasion for us to redouble our efforts to bring about greater understanding among our people, and restore peace and harmony in the country. “Given below the full text of Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse’s Deepavali Message

“I am pleased to send greetings to all Sri Lankan Hindus on the occasion of Deepavali. Called the ‘Festival of Lights’. Deepavali symbolizes the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.

The Deepavali Festival, being a unifying force that spreads understanding, tolerance and harmony among all peoples irrespective of ethnic, religious, caste or class differences is a fitting occasion for us to redouble our efforts to bring about greater understanding among our people, and restore peace and harmony in the country.

May the light of goodwill and peace dispel the darkness of terror and illuminate our land. “I wish a happy Deepavali to all Hindu devotees.”
