    HD 5850-5870: Final specifications-by ATI
    :)
Exactly one hour ago wie revealed the final specs of the HD 5850-5870, . The following are the final ones of the smaller brother, HD 5850, which will herald the new and first AMD DirectX 11 graphic card generation together with the HD 5870.

    1252600025acce67556d.jpg

As you see, the HD 5850 will not have the whole 1600 stream processors and 80 TMUs of the HD 5870. AMD deactivates two of the 20 SIMD units of the HD 5850 to reduce the amount of stream processors to 1440 and the amount of TMUs to 72, which equals a 10 per cent reduction.
Additionally, the chip frequency turns out to be 725 instead of 825 MHz, so that it can only afford 79 per cent of the shader- and texture performance of the HD 5870.

The memory is also bound to a 256 Bit interface and is a type GDDR5, but it works with 1000 instead of 1300 MHz 30 per cent less, so that the memory bandwidth is only 128 GB/s, too, and therefore just above current graphic cards.
The amount of ROPs keeps 32, like the HD 5870.

At the release the HD 5850 shall be 299 USD, exactly 100 USD less than the HD 5870.

The day before yesterday we revealed the specifications of the HD5850. Those also contained 1600 stream processors, 80 TMUs and 32 ROPs, and with that, definitely twice of the HD 4850/4870/4890. This also leaves a mark on the transistor budget of the chips, which is now twice as high with 2.15 Billion circuits. Despite the 40 nm technique the chip size amounts 338 mm², so the chip is the second-biggest AMD chip after the R600.

As we could learn now, the HD 5870 will appear in several versions, one with 1024 and another with 2048 MiB texture memory, although it is still uncertain through the loss of official benchmarks if the bigger memory adds up at all. The doubled memory will result in 50 USD more in price. This means for the HD 5870 with 1024 MiB texture memory still to be at 399 USD, while you just find a < 400 USD on AMD's newest documents, so 449 USD for the 2048 MiB version.

The interesting thing is, that, against our last report, the HD 5870 with 1024 MiB will not work with 825/1300 MHz, but with 850/1200 MHz. If this follows a small last-minute alternation or if the 825/1300 MHz are meant to be from the 2048 MiB version, we will not know until the launch day, which will still be September 23. The performance of the HD 5870 should not experience any major changes.

    Dual RV870 chips HD 5870x2

The card codenamed R800, something that AMD plans to brand as Radeon HD 5870 X2, will not be launching simultaneously with the single chi Radeon HD 5870 card codenamed Cypress.

The top-end dual-GPU enthusiast card, Radeon HD 5870 X2, should come roughly a month after Radeon HD 5870 which is scheduled for September 22rd / 23rd depending on the global region.

On another note, the chips are ready, but AMD needed a bit more time to polish the drivers and the card itself, and therefore had to delay the card.

We received some details about the name of the chip that ATI codenamed Cypress which we have called RV870. The internal generation codename is Evergreen and this name represents the entire DirectX 11 generation of ATI cards.

The top card is named Radeon HD 5870 but the company plans two versions, one with 2GB memory and one with 1GB.

The Radeon HD 5870 1GB should sell for $399 at launch, while Radeon HD 5870 2GB should sell for $449. At the same time, the slower Radeon HD 5850 with 1GB memory will sell for $299. The launch date for all three cards is September 23rd in Europe whereas in the US we are talking about the 22nd.

bad move,, Physx is a matter of Drv and API
    Code:

    Code:

so what about the DX10.1 + GDDR5

both hav pros and cons, but those r not sh1t anyway.

as far as i concern Nvidia keep their statue under the high price tags, while ati offers same prof much cheaper.
