HDD LED red

i have hp a Pavilion DV4 1509tx. Yesterday I changed the power option "what close lid does" to" do nothing". then i noticed when i close the lid and take the laptop to anothrer place or turns upside down hard led becomes red. then again the laptop is kept normal it is back to normal, This happens only when the lid is closed and runnung from the battery,, Can u explain this,, is this a protection system of hard disk or what???

when u move the laptop ,it temporary power off the hard drive to protect it frm damage due to shock
