I tried that driver macho but cant build the driver..there are so many erros..anyway thanks for replying..:D:D:D

I saw your post in fedoraforum also. You have to download firmware from fida.com or you can install it from SALA Enterprises, Colombo. or Try send an email to prolink custommer support ([email protected]) They will help you.

Hey man, I dont know if you tried this or not. But Use the Propetriory Driver By the Manufacturer. Try the Following link. Use the Read Me Attached with it to How to install. You have to first install the kernel modules and then again install the Control panel and the drier. Please let me know what hapend. it can be done. Try it.

anyway, dont use adsl modems. if you can. I know U dont got a choice. But try to go for a Router . a 4 port router is approximatly 6000LKR. By that, U can learn something. But Using adsl modem does not let u learn anything. Thery are a damn piece of shit made just for the Windows . just like normal internal Modems. Go for a router. And Go for FOSS always.
Congrat about Your Selection on the Distro .

Reply me. Good luck on ur Journey

I've been told by several people that a router is the best way to get connected to the internet than usb adsl modem..but at this point I'm unable to get a router to work. About the propritery driver you said, I tried to install it but get stucked in the step "building the kernel". I have extracted the kernel source to "/usr/src" according to the tutorial. But I can't run make xconfig command. It says " Unable to find QT development libraries...Install pkg-config " or something like that. I've searched using yum the "pkg-config" but it says theres nothing called pkg-config in "livna" repository. I thought that building the kernel for this is useless cause this driver is old and I'm using the latest fedora 8 x86_64 version.( I thought the support for the modem is included in the kernel that installed in fedora 8 by default) . So I skip the steps for building kernel and started to build the driver they said. Still I cant get it compiled.( There are lots of errors showing in the terminal.) Because I'm new to fedora I really can't understand what it says.

Although, if ur have compiled this kernal module Correectly, i dont think That it will be any help to you as yuo said tthat you r using the Fedora 8 64 bit version. I don't think this driver is a 64 bit supported one. Therefore dont waste your time on compiling this driver. Even though, they have asked for the QT libraries (I dont know exactly what is the Library) , not the "pkg-config". so its normal that u havent got an answer. . Accourding to current situation, there are 2 options available to u.

1. Directly contact the Prolink Customer care service, and demand them a driver- mention that u r running a 64 bit version.

2. Take the Driver source and the usb modem to the Lnux Centre located in nugegoda. They will be able to help you.

Other than that , only option u have is to swith to a router (Recomanded - I know how difficult it is. :baffled:).

Other than that, i dont think I can help you. But good to c ya rolling with Fedora. Is the Damn Distro in Gnu/Linux . I have some Requests to make From you. In Situations like this, there are some common mistakes that normal persons do. I have to warn about them to you., Please try not to use them.

1. Trashing the Linux -
2. Using a 32 bit Version.
3.Switching the Distro.

Contact me if you need anyhing. Good Luck.
-- Again Atleast try to go for a Second hand router

Hope You are not One Of Runners.

I loved the linux system ever since I got it installed in my pc. But the only problem I'm having is that I can't understand the linux commands and I'm unable to do certain work because of that. But now I'm learning linux and getting used to this environment..I will not give up on linux system because of some Modem s***.:yes::yes::yes:
I'll try to get a router inorder to get the my linux pc connected to internet. Anyway thank you for giving me information about this problem I had. :D:D
