Help!!!! UBUNTU

Guys I have just recieved my UBUNTU 8.10.......I'm thinking of installing it.....Is
the linux(UBUNTU) O/S is compatible with the softwares we use....Does it have special features comparing windows...Is it ok to remove windows completely and go to ubuntu or to have both in dual boot way....Pls tell me your experiences

if you are gonna install it

reduce that HDD Installation Size to 5~6GB (15GB is too much)

and Installation Drive, you can select any one ( I prefer C: )
