When you go about 2.5 km from central Rotterdam you will find this breathtaking park located west of the center near the River Nieuwe Maas and south of the Westzeedijk. This is the first park built in the City of Rotterdam. It is one of the largest parks here and it has the largest collection of trees which are above 100 years old. The Eastern part of the park was built from 1852 to 1863 based on the principles of the English Landscape style by the Zochers (Famous landscape architects) and the western part was built in 1886 with some modifications of principles of French-style garden. This is the best place to match the dark green environment concept in the Rotterdam area.
Famous Euromast tower (the highest tower in the Netherlands) was also built here in 1960. Also, we can see some statues and memorials built here and there in the park. Old mansions situated in the area are converted into cafeterias and we can find 3 located inside the park.
This park has been announced as a National Monument of the Netherlands since December 2010.
Many people come here for picnics, barbecues, sports and for a walk while relaxing and enjoying the fresh air.
