The Military Police that arrested General Sarath Fonseka has also arrested his Secretary Senaka Arnold Haripriya Silva.

Commanding Officer of the Army’s Colombo Division Major General Sumith Manawadu had ordered the Military Police personnel who carried out the arrest.

The Military Police had forcibly entered into General Fonseka’s office where he was at a discussion with several political leaders. A senior Ministary Polcie officer who had walked in to the office had informed the general that he had received orders to arrest him. The General had responded saying that he could not be arrested. Major General Manawadu had walked into the room and shouted at the Military Police personnel to arrest the General saying, “What are you fellows looking at drag this fellow by his neck.” Seeing the General’s Secretary in the room, the Major General had said, “Here is the other fellow. Take him as well.”

The AFP photographer who had taken photographs of the General’s arrest was also attacked by the Military Police personnel before confiscating his camera equipment.

Major General Sumith Manawadu was the officer in charge of Mullaitivu during the Eelam War IV and he was transferred to the Army headquarters in Colombo by then Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka as punishment for issuing wrong orders to the ground troops, which resulted in the death of 117 soldiers in combat. The Major General has since been angry with the General.

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa knew of this rift and used Major General Manawadu for several operations against General Fonseka. It was Major General Manawadu who also played the role of Commanding Officer in “Operation Trans Asia.”

The parts about AFP snapper is true. According to Daily Mirror the memory chips of DM and AFP snappers were "confiscated".

Manwadu is a third rate officer and will gladly kiss the govt. ass. It's thanks to SF promoting the smart commanders such as Shavendra, Prassanna Silva and others for pure operational and stretgic purposes we won the war. Guys like Manawadu just made up the numbers. They are a disgrace to the uniform and a let down to some of the great people who paid the ultimate price.

Some donkey from Asian tribune reported Manawadu as colonel of the Commando regiment. LMFAO ....Manawadu would have never made it to the end of day one in selection and isn;t even good enough to be the ass wipe of a commando. He just a shopping mall cop and nothing more. The "reporter" may have confused maroon berets with red caps. Donkey x 2

This so called officer couldn't carry out proper operations during the Eelam war so he could only manage operation "Trans Asia", makes perfect sense: sec. of def. who was another cowards left the force during the most brutal and deadly battles in the war, so no wonder he can relate to Manwadu. I'll say out loud.... cowards!
