How to check external usb ntfs hard disk in Linux mint ?

HD eka NTFS.

smartctl problem. unknown usb bridge.
fsck problem. fsck.ntfs not found.

Any wanabi or anyone else has any easy idea to sort this out ?

Opening up the external HD casing and trying to interface HD directly to comp, thereby bypassing the USB connection, is not a solution I want to do at this moment
