hello dear friends,
this thread is for people interested in the practice of meditation.
i myself have been doing meditation for the past 10 years and have tried and tested many different types and techniques. some were brilliant, some were weak, some were absolutely useless.
today my goal is to tell you how to do a powerful meditation technique that anybody can follow despite their religious background or level of experience.
This meditation will bring you great joy, happiness and inner peace by calming down the chattery/busy mind and narrowing & anchoring down your concentration/focus on a pure and positive meditation object. People who have a lot of stress and worry in their lives will find this extra helpful.
ok let's get down to business...
now the goal of this meditation technique is to build good samadhi.
samadhi is a pali word for the state of mind that is achieved when your stream of thought becomes so defragmented that the contents of your mind only consists of the object of meditation every passing moment while you are in meditation.
by defragmented what i meant was: during normal waking consciousness our minds are usually in a state of fragmentation. if you carefully look at your normal stream of thought, you will see that your mind almost never stays still and jumps among 6 different sense experiences really fast. stress & anxiety is heightened when this process takes place at a really fast pace.
with meditation we will train our mind to calm down and build samadhi so your mind will be in a state of defragmentation for as long as you like and reap the great many benefits meditation has to offer.
some of the benefits i myself have received from this meditation are as follows:
these are only some of the benefits i can recall off the top of my head. but there are many others, some of which you can read about by searching the net.
the official name of the meditation technique i will be talking about today is called "metta meditation". it has it's origins in buddhism but it does not challenge any other religion at all. in fact i have many non buddhist friends who engage in this practice and report great success. it is simply a mental exercise for wellbeing and defragmenting your mind. you are not required to believe in buddhism at all. if you are a non buddhist reader, you can experiment and see for yourself.
in order to do high potent metta meditation which builds good samadhi, u need to choose a meditation object which is concise that can be easily repeated in ur mind in quick succession.
the best object for that is the "sukhi hotu" object. it literally means "may all be well and happy".
sit in a quiet comfortable place with your eyes closed and simply repeat the words "sukhi hotu" in ur mind over n over without a gap between repetitions.
u should not try to think of the meaning of the words or try to imagine things related to everyone being well and happy.
if u do anything other than say these two words in ur mind, u r actually fragmenting ur thought stream and samadhi will not build. simply knowing the meaning of ur meditation object will suffice.
when u say "sukhi hotu" in ur mind u r actually generating a kusala citta (good karma) [non buddhists can simply ignore that] - and the goal is to stack these together for as long as possible without fragmentation.
it is easier said than done. after a few repetitions u will realize that ur attention has wandered off to either a sound, smell, thought, memory, touch, or an internal physical sensation. when that happens simply ignore it and bring ur attention and focus back to the main object.
to clarify that further: at any moment you realize that you are no longer experiencing the main object of meditation, simply ignore and let go of whatever sensation you are experiencing and bring your attention/focus back onto the main object. and continue repeating the words "sukhi hotu" in your mind.
when u keep doing this two goals are achieved. one, u generate one of the most powerful type of positive karma every passing moment. two, u exercise the muscle that is ur inherent intellect which is normally in a dormant state.
that is: the force in ur mind that alerted u to the fact that ur focus has wandered off is ur intellect (nuwana/sati-sampajanna).
and the more times u bring ur attention back to the main object after being notified by ur intellect, the more power u give it to rise above the defilements of the mind and become a force to be reckoned with.
personally for myself it takes about 15-20 minutes of doing the above to reach a state of defragmentation/samadhi. you will realize this when you see that your mind no longer wonders off from the main meditation object and stays anchored to it without much effort from you.
the thing to note here is that if you don't have much experience in meditation, it may take you somewhere from 30-50 minutes to reach a state of samadhi.
the other important fact is that you should not enter meditation with a sole intention of reaching samadhi. if you meditate with a strong desire to reach samadhi, your mind will be fragmented with that desire and samadhi will be a distant dream.
samadhi is something that comes automatically due to you doing something else (the above exercise). if you try to force it or will it, the mind actually becomes agitated and you will not succeed.
simply let go of all desires/goals of success and simply do the above exercise. and when the mind has calmed down enough and defragmented, samadhi will happen automatically on it's own.
and it is important that you dont get disappointed if you dont reach samadhi in your first couple of attempts. you dont really need to reach samadhi to reap the benefits of meditation. of course samadhi is the ultimate goal in this type of meditation but if you fall short, you still gain some level of benefit from the practice.
i think that's enough information for you to get started...
hope you give this a shot and realize the value of this meditation.

ALL THE BEST OF LUCK!
