Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva has told some of his supporters that he would cut the fingers of Divaina newspaper columnist C.A. Chandraprema to ensure that he would not be able to write anymore. Silva has made this comment after saying that Chandraprema had criticized his politics in the column titled “The old thuggery” in the Divaina newspaper on the 24th. Chandraprema has started his article by saying, “Although President Premadasa did not appear in public with Soththi Upali, his actions had an adverse impact on the government. In this scenario, the likes of Mervyn Silva sitting with the President would indeed have a similar or if not a bigger impact on the current administration than it did on the UNP government” and has gone on to say that Mervyn Silva is the worst possible politicians the country has witnessed since independence.
Angered by the contents of the article, Mervyn Silva, who is currently receiving treatment for a throat ailment has refused to give voice cuts to the media following medical advice. However, he has ignored the medical advice and has spoken to several media personnel affiliated to him.
“What right does Thadi Priyantha (an alias used by C.A. Premachandra) have to question my morals? That fellow had killed hundreds of people together with “Pra.” He is responsible for the deaths of Charitha Lankapura and Kanchana Abepala. In short he should be held responsible even for sexual abuse. If you need more information speak to our Dilith malli (Dilith Jayaweera) from Triad. You can ask him what this fellow did to him in an army camp after abducting him from Borella in the 1990s. Dilith malli cannot stand this fellow. It is such a fellow that is questioning my morals.
