මිත්රවරුනි, උඹලා IELTS මඩ ගොහොරුවේ ගිලෙමින් එහි රසය තලු මරමින් උන් පොහොසත් කරමින් සිටින්නේද? මෙතෙක් කාලයක් රජයටත් බදු ගෙවමින් කටු කන් උඹලා තව සුද්දන්ටත් කඹුරන්නේ ඇයි ? මෙතනින් ගැලවෙන්ට ඕනෑ නිසා. ඒත් උඹලගේ skills දියුණු කරගන්නේ නැතිව IELTS හෝ PTE සමත් වන්නේ කෙසේද? මෙන්න මේකට උදව්වක් තමයි මම කරන්න යන්නේ. ගොට් ඉට් ?
ඒත් ඉතින් මොන හත්තිලවුවකටද මම මේක සිංහලෙන් ටයිප් කරන්නේ? උඹල කර දඬු උස මහත් වෙච්ච උන් නොවැ.
First, without a serious commitment you will not be able to succeed in these exams. I did both PTE and IELTS. My take on those exams are, PTE is difficult, however, with sheer hard work you can score well.
I must stress that scoring above 7 in IELTS and PTE takes time as you have to sharpen your skills and most importantly you’ll have to boost your confidence.
So how would you score well in IELTS?
Come to a position where you are confident about yourself.
There’s no easy method. Do the hard way. Listen to English whenever you can. I will help you with what to listen.
First, commit to achieving your goal friends. Think about the work you do. Is that work promising as well compared to learning English? Of course not. Your commitment to learning will bring you unlimited opportunities. So that’s a win-win situation. Nuffff..
Listen to podcasts.
Free up your phone a bit and listen to various podcasts inside the bus, train (On the train if you are a frequent traveller of Sri Lankan crowded trains),when in home etc.. .
C’mon listen at least 1 hour. If you say “I don’t have much time, get the fuck out here...

You can download his app too. Extremely beneficial (I replaced the word “very” as it is a common word. In speaking and writing, always try to utilize academic words in a suitable manner).

Remember; always try to do active listening. There’s a serious difference between these two.
“Oh I heard that” and “I actually listened to that”.
Try to listen mindfully. Pause and try to repeat what they say after a conclusion of a sentence. It is an expected skill in PTE.
When you learn sentences rather than words, you’ll improve your English faster. This continuous listening can rewire your brain to absorb things quickly, thus you can easily develop the speaking skills simultaneously.
Even if you don’t understand a thing, continue your listening. Make it a habit.
To improve writing, you will have to practice academic writing (in General Module too). Mere using of some thundering words does not create lush writings. Improve your grammar, specifically tenses. Application of perfect tenses, future tenses....
Learn new adjectives, verbs and replace exhausted words with academic wordsin the English language.
Ex- Very good- Superb
Hungry- ravenous
Help – assist
Inactive – benign
Very important – Crucial/ Vital etc...
I will post a second thread as this will become a tedious thing. Thus consider this as spoonful of a portion for the day.
