The IGP says disciplinary action will be taken against the officers if it is proved that they acted against the law. The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) are conducting separate inquiries into the incident. Nearly 200 people have been questioned over the incident while 25 others have been arrested, IGP Balasuriya said. They also charged that their property was damaged by the army and the police early this morning. However police spokesman S.P Priyashantha Jayakody denied the allegations saying the police or the army have no reason to damage the property of the area residents. “We sent several teams to bring the situation under control with the help of the army”, he said. On receiving information that the drug dealer who was arrested yesterday was injured while in police custody, residents of the area had attempted to attack the police station with clubs, iron bars and stones last night, the police said. The police claimed the youth sustained injuries when he attempted to break a glass inside the police station.
