Victor Perera, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is to retire by the end of June. He has sent in his retirement papers to the National Police Commission for approval, reports from Colombo said.

Kingsley Wickremaratne is to be appointed as the new IGP. He is the senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, next to the incumbent IGP.

Victor Perera joined the police force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He served in the police for the last thirty five years.

Lieutenant General, Sarath Fonseka, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is due to retire by the end of August this year. However the government is to grant an extension for him to serve for another year, Colombo reports said.
