rep means reputation. If you think a thread or specific comment posted by someone else is useful, you can add reputation to that use. On right side of the post you will see a button "karma". click on that then "I approve". That is rep+. If you think someone's post is useless or insulting someone, the same way and click "I do not approve". That is rep-
