IMF LOAN TO LANKA: TIMING WRONG SAYS HILLARY CLINTON
May 15, 2009: Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State says the timing is wrong for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to consider a 1.9-million-dollar loan to Sri Lanka because of the conflict in the northern Sri Lanka.
According to Reuters, she had been speaking to reporters after a meeting with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister in Washington yesterday.
Ms. Clinton had also noted that it was not appropriate to consider it, until there is a resolution to the conflict.
She had added that the US had repeated a call for hostilities to end on all sides and for humanitarian aid to be allowed in to the conflict zone.
