No it is not cheaper.

The best thing you can go for is Q9550 I think. Should be around Rs.30000 if I'm not mistaken.

Machan Go for AMD Phenom II x4 in Q1 2009.....Same as core 2 Quad Yorkfield(core 2 Extreme)
might be 300 US$......

If you can spend that much, wait for i7 to get cheaper and go with that. 40% faster than Core 2 is quite a lot.
