When I go to school I learnt Sri Lanka as a developing country and 3rd world country.

As I know my parents, sisters and brothers also learnt the same thing.

Next generation after me also learnt the same thing.

hey kids, are you guys also learning the same thing?

According to my knowledge, when Mr. Lee Kwan YU became a prime minister of Singapore about 20 - 30 years ago, he promised to develop singapore as a Sri Lanka. But he have developed it better than any other country in whole Asia (Economy, Law)

Then Dr. Mahathir Mohamed also Developed Malasiya. Thailand also developed in some ways, China going to be a world's best country.

Where are we stand as a Sri Lanka?

Singapore, Malaysia, China.. all those countries are developed they spent a huge budget on development. But GOSL have to spend a huge amount on war expenses. Hence the development is not that significant.

But yes! it is a developing country. :D More roads, more systems, high speed internet, new trains, new air carriers comming soon :D ;)

Dont you know why its not developed? The answer is in your own siggy! We have been in a WAR for 25 years!

    1. Terrorists killing our Political leaders thus political situation is not stable in our country,

    2. Terrorists are exploding bombs in public creating havok in major cities as a result many countries do not recommend Sri Lanka as a good tourist destination, thus our Tourism suffers

    3. Terrorists attack our major economic points trying to disable them, and investors are not keen to invest in our country

    4. WAR expenses are massive

    5. Unlike all those countries you mentioned Education (in all forms), Health are free services in Sri Lanka.. those are massive expenses!!

These are some of the reasons..

YET, we have maintained a quality of living that's not even matched by the giant India or even Pakistan, our literacy levels are higher, health care is better than most South Asian countries!

Besides..... country's culture also plays a big role, like you mentioned Thailand maybe a developed and one their pillars of strength in the economy is Tourism... and why tourism is popular in Thailand? Because PROSTITUTION is legal there!! All the Western sickos, wackos come there to have "FUN" so their tourism is really good! these are facts!

So that's never gonna happen in Sri Lanka! There will never be "SIN CITIES" in Sri Lanka!!

    I don't know u guys heard about ...

Bhoogolaya, Ithihaasaya, Prajachara subjects in your school.

All of those subjects put together and came as Samaaja Adyayanaya (Social Studies)

We had to write lots of essays in schools and they gave us some strange topics

    Examples:

    1. Mage Mawbima

Mage mawbima Sri Lankaawai, eya indian saagaraye muthu ataya kiyaada kiyanu labey.

Later on teachers said.. Sri Lankawa sanwardanaya wemin pawathina rataki.

    2. Pol Gasa

Pol Gasa thaala wargayata ayath gasaki. Eyin apata gatha heki prayojana resaki.

    3. Dumriyak Kathaakarai

Mage nam dumriyai, mama gaman karanne kuchu kuchu gaamin saha dum damaminya. Mama kanne gal anguruya, bonne al wathuraya

    Hmmm Isn't cool?

I think SL is still developing.. It has not gone back.. bt going forward very slowly.. Malaysia, China both are ahead in progress of development than Sri Lanka.. But to my opinion the lower class of those both those country's are living in a much lower conditions than in Sri Lanka.. Therefore although it's slow we have made some progress.

Next thing is PPL and Planning.. We suck in dis.. Now b honest.. Ppl in SL dun like to wrk.. Dey are used to go through strikes n increase their pay but not doing the work expected from them for their work.. Making the whole progress of the country slow..

eg: To put a new layer of tar to a road a SL wld take somethin like 5days atleast.. Dey only wrk 3 - 4 hrs n get money 4d full day n go home.. Its totally different in other 3 country s.. In singapore u'll c whole blocks being redone in 1 - 2 months dat SL's wld take 1 - 2 yrs to complete.. I knw dey hav machines n better tech.. but specially dey work whole 8hrs.. In china may b if u dun wrk ur 8hrs next day u'll b out of job.. so may b 4 dat pressure dey do 10 hrs wrk in 8..

Finally we ppl in SL r havin an unwanted terrorist war in SL for 20+ years.. Dun wanna talk abt dat much.. Bt dats a big obstacle for development..

So to my opinion dats d reasons for us to get a slow development.. buy we r going forward.. If the war ends soon, Hopefully by the time we die we can say it's DERE.. ;)

What I meant is Party Politics. We call Politics for lots of things.

I did not mean Government or Ministers or somthing like that.

    It's kind geographical question.
