Unlike all those countries you mentioned Education (in all forms), Health are free services in Sri Lanka.. those are massive expenses!!These are some of the reasons..YET, we have maintained a quality of living that's not even matched by the giant India or even Pakistan, our literacy levels are higher, health care is better than most South Asian countries!Besides..... country's culture also plays a big role, like you mentioned Thailand maybe a developed and one their pillars of strength in the economy is Tourism... and why tourism is popular in Thailand? Because PROSTITUTION is legal there!! All the Western sickos, wackos come there to have "FUN" so their tourism is really good! these are facts! So that's never gonna happen in Sri Lanka!
