Japan set to ban power bank use on passenger flights💥🔴

TOKYO -- Japan is set to ban the use of mobile batteries, often referred to as power banks or battery packs, inside passenger aircraft, Nikkei learned on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is moving to put the usage ban into effect, along with new limitations on how many mobile batteries passengers can carry onto an aircraft.

The International Civil Aviation Organization, a United Nations agency, has prohibited the act of charging mobile battery units on aircraft, and it is considering recommending a full ban on their use, the transport ministry said.

Even though you could carry them you are not allowed to charge them using the onboard USB ports and also you can't use them in flight. It's time to ban these altogether.

The Chinese first started limitations on powerbanks because they suspected that these were the cause for the MH370 disaster.

I was in China few years back when this battery issue first came up. I had to take about six or seven internal flights in China. These airports were in complete pandemonium. This was the first time they did not allow powerbanks and batteries on checked luggage. They were scanning every bag and if a battery is detected they had to find the owner to take it out. They had extra staff but everyone was taken unawares. Luckily we had all our power banks in hand carried luggage. But people unpacking taking their batteries out held up the check-in and resulting in delays.
This was long before other airlines brought in this battery issue and brought forward rules for batteries in checked baggage.

Can you guess the reason? The Chinese suspected the batteries as the cause of the MH370 disappearance. Well.. they manufacture batteries and know very well they can explode and cause fireworks too....

You are not allowed to use the charging port from mid 2025. Check with the airlines. I usually fly with SQ and they did so. But you can use your portable charger powered by under the seat power point.

The USB port can't be used to charge the powerbank. But can connect your phone and use. Also the powerbank cannot be connected to your devices as well. So basically you are allowed to carry the powerbank.
