JVP goes to courts against Karuna Amman

(Lanka-e-News, October 07, 2008, 9.00 PM) JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva filed a fundamental rights petition today (07) against appointing Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman to the parliament through national list to fill a seat JVP claims belonged to it.

The defendants of the petition are United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Susil Prema Jayantha, Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara, Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, The Acting Secretary of parliament Dhammika Kithulgoda and Election Commissioner Dayananda Disanayaka.

The petitioners seek the gazette notification to appoint Karuna Amman to parliament be cancelled.

The petition was filed through counsels Viran Corea and Suresh Fernando.


Addressing a pres briefing held today (07) in Hotel Nippon, Mr. Tilvin Silva said that JVP was not against Karuna entering the parliament and the problem was not who would be appointed to the national list seat but the Mahinda Rajapakse regime’s day light robbery of the parliamentary seat belonged to JVP.
