BAMBA YOUTH DROWNING: SUSPECT DIES IN REMANDDecember 31, 2009 11:04 am
One of the suspect Police Sergeants Dimuthu Somnas of the alleged Bambalapitiya youth drowning incident has died while in remand custody, Prisons Commissioner V.R. De Silva told Ada Derana. He along with 4 others were initially remanded on October 31, 2009.
Four suspects who were alleged to be involved in the forced drowning of mentally unstable Balawarnam Sivakumar in the seas off Bambalapitiya on October 29 were further remanded till December 24 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya on December 18.
In this case, suspects H.M. Wirendra Weerawardena (Sub Inspector), Nishantha Samarasinghe and Pathiranage Raja are in remand custody in connection with the alleged forced drowning.
