The present Mayoress of Maharagama Municipality and SLFP organizer for Maharagama Ms. Kanthi Kodikara has been removed from the post of the party organizer for the area. Mr. Isura Devapriya has been appointed in her place as the SLFP organizer for Maharagama electorate.
Ms. Kanthi Kodikara is a long standing member of the SLFP and is the wife of the present Western Provincial Council Minister Upali Kodikara. She was at the helm of Mr. Mahinda Rajapake’s presidential election campaign.
The election rally of the apolitical Common Candidate Gen. Fonseka held at Maharagama a few days ago was attended by a mammoth crowd. According to observers it was the largest crowd that attended a political meeting in the area. Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse angered by the large crowd at his opponents rally had reprimanded not only Ms. Kodikara but her husband as well. He had threatened that he would hand over the post of organizer for Maharagama electorate to some one else reminding her that she was defeated at the budget reading of the PC.
Now Ms. Kodikara has been removed from the post of organizer for Maharagama and Mr. Isura Devapriya has been appointed instead.
