UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya today called the public to join a protest outside the Hulftsdorp Courts complex on Wednesday morning to demand for the release of former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka.

The protest coincides with the second anniversary of his arrest.

Mr Jayasuriya today visited Mr. Fonseka in prisons and spoke to journalists thereafter. “When some of the biggest criminals are being released from custody without any appeal why shouldn’t Mr Fonseka be released’, he questioned.

He said that the civil society and political parties have already appealed for his release and the appeals were sufficient. “Why should there any more appeals’, he added.

He warned that the people will be agitated if Mr. Fonseka who has a done a service to the country was not released and the government should react.
