Security chiefs should be careful to act according to their limits says Minister of Labour ‘Dr.’ Mervin Silva. Speaking at an opening ceremony of a road development project at Dematagoda headed by Western PC Member Thilan Sumathipala ‘Dr.’ Mervin said, “In a war the political leadership that directs it is important. It is the name of King Dutugamunu that was added to history. However, the war was carried out by the ‘ten heroic commanders.’ If there was no King Dutugemunu Welusumanas and Nandrimithras would be no where. No one could claim ownership to the war. It was planned and commanded by President Mahinda Rajapakse and Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse. What the Commanders of Security Forces did was to carry out orders. There were commanders of security forces throughout thirty years of the war. Why couldn’t they win? Because then leaders of the state did not have a backbone.
Now certain commanders of security forces think the war was won because of them. I tell them to be aware of their limits. The gate should be erected according to the size of the fence. If anyone tries to act according to whims and fancies of the conspirators of the opposition we’ll have to reveal certain shady dealings. We request those officers of security forces not to create such a situation,” said Minister Mervin.
