Usually it enters at the cockpit and leaves from the back. This aircraft suffered no damage. But stuck with a 1 billion joules of energy or about 0.25 tons of TNT.
Moreover the the electronics and connections to the fuel tank, are heavily shielded to protect from these strikes.
Once I have been through a severe thunderstorm, it was a bit scary. Another time flying outbound from London, a massive air pocket , somewhere over the Gulf - you could feel the big, near vertical drop over several seconds.
Minor air pockets and turbulence is almost an everyday incident.
