The Army has not received any invitation to take part in training exercises and combat courses overseas especially for the special forces and army commandos following the white flag allegations raised by the former army chief General Sarath Fonseka.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that several European countries which used to invite the Sri Lankan military for training had now snubbed the island nation as a result of the allegations allegedly raised by the former military chief.

General Fonseka was quoted in a weekend newspaper prior to the recent Presidential elections as saying some senior LTTE officials were killed by the military despite surrendering with white flags.

The General however rejected ever making such claims in the interview and threatened to sue the newspaper over the report but has not done so as yet.

No need of training for SL army..

Politicians raped it on last few days ...
Now there is no dignity of it. Just another organization like SL police who work for political needs...

Sometimes we say we dont need the Western help for our matters, then when we loose something we go blaming someone and go after them...

I think another thing that mattered was the govs double standard regarding the issue. At first when UN or something asked us what we had to say regarding the statement, the gov told the International that Sarath Fonseka told that the statement was wrong and to withdraw the request..... BUT few days after, Its our gov. who told to withdraw our reply to them...
When you do something internationally we cant have double standards like this, Once we say he didint say and later we say he told.... Through these kind of things its us who get a bad reputation...
I think politically we need to act wisely....

i dont know from where you got this news , its entirely wrong, even at this moment there are more than 60 officers receiving training in various countries, like india, pakistan, israel, usa, sanderst military college uk. russia and china. i say this with backed up facts. on the other hand the government has reduced the money they spend on foreign training as there is no such need as before for strenthening the army at all cost.
