The External Affairs Ministry today said it was discussing with Sri Lankan Airlines to bring back Lankans who are willing to return home from Japan. Of the 20,000 Sri Lankans living in Japan some have called the External Affairs Ministry and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan expressing their willingness to get back home, External Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary Ranjith Uyangoda said. A number of Sri Lankans have also made requests to make arrangements to get back their family members from Japan due to the threat of earthquake aftershocks and nuclear effects resulting from the 9.0 magnitude earthquake. Meanwhile rescue missions offered to the Japanese government by the government of Sri Lanka are yet to be deployed, as logistical issues are being sorted out. dailymirror

Other airlines have also increased prices more than that

Lufthansa wants US$ 10000 one way economy

UK government is sending planes to reduce airline prices & offer free travel

Other counties will do the same soon

Sri Lankans arriving from Japan to be monitored for radiation effects

Sri Lankans arriving from Japan can get themselves checked for radiation effects at the Atomic Energy Authority in Baseline Road, Orugodawatte.

Chairman of the authority, Professor W. Abeywickrame said, announcements in this regard are made at the Bandaranaike Airport.

Those who are exposed to radioactive materials following explosions in Fukushima nuclear power plant can get their bodies checked for radiation effects and if positive will be directed for treatment.

The second special flight of the Sri Lankan Airlines is expected to bring Lankans stranded due to flight cancellations tomorrow (18).
